American women and horse hair

In a totally unscientific / impressionistic way, I've long observed that American women (under 50) tend to overwhelmingly have longish hair (to the shoulders say). I'd put it at 90%. In other countries I've spent time in (New Zealand, Australia, Germany, UK) I'd put the figure at 50%.
I don't particularly like long hair, but it seems American women, and probably men, do. How come?

long hair is to disguise their other shortcomings, such as being chinless, running shoes, questionable teeth, lack of consonants, etc.

ya'll are totally mean with this horsehair and being chinless, etc.

ai lien (kold_krush), Monday, 28 August 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

"To the shoulders" is longish? Can I suggest that, say, middle of the back is "longish" and potentially horsey by your definition, and to the shoulders is medium/normal/average? Is that not the case in UK/Continent??

I like to keep my hair longer for two reasons. 1. I can get it into a ponytail and get it off my face and 2. It is cheap; I don't need to get haircuts all the time.

i've been told (when people were trying to persuade me not to cut my hair, even though it looks stringy and awful long) that long hair makes women look more feminine and attractive and approachable. so maybe it's an american guy thing too :P

Horse hair? I've NEVER EVER heard that phrase, or anything
like it, in my entire life. So you must be on to something.
When it comes to hot hair, I say the longer the better (as long
as it's well kept).

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

FWIW, as I was growing up my religious parents (Salvadorean
mom, American dad) made it very clear that girls should have
long hair, and men should have short hair. Guys with long
hair must be effeminate and sinful. Today, I'm not bound
by this intellectually but it had to have had an effect.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 12 July 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

I am very pro short hair. I've only had long hair once during my sophomore year in high school and it was pretty terrible. I think short hair just suits my face/personality. In general, I think short hair on girls is more interesting!

ENBB, Thursday, 12 July 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

I used to think this too. But you have to cut short hair too frequently.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that is kind of a bitch.

ENBB, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

Short hair makes girls faces look all round. doesn't frame things well at all.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

river wolf, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

No, and I haven't quite reached Nicolette Grant lengths either. It's just the longest I've ever had it in my life.

KitCat, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not anti-short hair on women at all, but I do think that european women tend to have their hair cut more severely. The women look a little more masculine and the European men tend to look more feminine than American men.

KitCat, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about weaves.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

We can make it about weaves. My dad has a great one.

KitCat, Thursday, 12 July 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

In his early 30s he was balding and looking not the greatest. Then he got this weave at some point and he looks fabulous.

So he should have... screamed and run? I personally don't think this is that weird, on the grand scale of weird. I know I'm just begging for abuse by saying it, but please. Horse tail butt plug = fine by me. If you're into it.

BRET:
If you want me to
I can hang ‘round with you
If I only knew
That’s what you’re into.

JEMAINE:
You and him
Him and you
If that’s what
You’re into
Him hanging ‘round
Around you
You’re hanging ‘round
Yeah, you’re there too.

BRET:
And if you want me to
I will take off all my clothes for you
I’ll take off all my clothes for you
If that’s what you’re into

JEMAINE:
How ‘bout him
In the nude?
If that’s what
You’re into.
In the nude in front of you
Is that what
you’d want to view?

BRET:
If it’s cool with you
I’ll let you get naked too
It could be a dream come true
Providing that’s what you are into

JEMAINE:
Is that what
You’re into?
Him and you
In the nude?
That’s what he’s prepared to do
Is that the kind of thing
you think you might be into?

BRET:
And then maybe later
We’ll get hot by the refrigerator
In the kitchen
next to the pantry
You think that might be what you fancy?

JEMAINE:
In the buff
Being rude
Doing stuff
With the food
Getting lewd
With his food
We heard that’s what you are into

BRET:
Then on our next date
Well, you could bring your roommate
I don’t know if Stu is keen to
But if you want we could double-team you

JEMAINE:
How about you
And two dudes?
Him, you and Stu
In the nude
Being lewd with two dudes with food
Well, that’s if Stu’s into it, too

BRET:
All the things I’d do
The things I’d do for you
If I only knew
That’s what you’re into
