I do believe it is time for a new Chicago thread. And I ain't started one in a coon's age.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Kenan.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

I just posted on the other thread: "You know, if we don't want a new Chicago thread, the thread I started could actually be all about serial killers and Chicago."

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Chicago has some good ones.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

The BEST, baby. We don't do anything half-assed when it comes to murder.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know if I can look at that photo every morning for the next six weeks.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, get the modz to put up a cuddly-looking serial killer.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

xpost Why not? Are you afraid of clowns who kill little boys and stack them like cordwood under their houses?

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

Wow. I thought Chicago would never have a new thread again!

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know man, Wisconsin has a fine history of serial killings.

HAPPY KATRINAVERSARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

This is the new Chicago thread, right?

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, what of it?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

JUST CHECKING.

Okay. Off to buy a couch!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

Buy two, they're small!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

We got this one, which is not the one we set out to get but it was four inches smaller and a wee bit cheaper and we liked it better:

http://www.roomandboard.com/images/images06/rnb/asset/image/279393_bg.jpg

We got it in sage, which is roughly the color of all the cats' hair when you roll it up in a ball.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and they will deliver it on October 7, so come over in a month and a half for some serious loungin'.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, come over before then if you want, but any loungin' will have to be on the papazan cushion on the floor.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:11 (nineteen years ago)

That's a hot couch.

Jeff. (Jeff), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

October 7? WTF?

I watched Melinda and Melinda tonight. I enjoyed it. I have to say though, that now when I watch Woody Allen movies, I hear Jenny's voice in the back of my mind going, "misogynyyyyyyyy....." Even so, I thought it was a fine movie, and I detected no particularly misogynistic notes.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

Shit, I thought this was the "Come Anticipate Devil In The White City With Me" thread...

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

I ate 21 chicken wings tonight.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

Congratulations.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Man, I'm hungry. I could eat a few chicken wings right about now.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ok so finally I can ask someone -- does anyone know the name of the company running the "ask the guru" campaign -- or something like that? It's a series of billboards and tv spots with a guy who looks like the dalai lama but it's for cable tv or something like that? I seriously can't remember and now it's driving me nuts.

Google has not helped me since I can't remember the name of the company and there are too many gurus on the internet.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Congratulations.

I'm not proud.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

But wait, they were in pieces, right? So really you only ate 10.5 chicken wings.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it was Buffalo Wild Wings so they were lil' old things.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

i hate eating animal skin. i know it's touched stuff.

still, i have learned to like wings.

but eating skin is gross.

I posted on the faux-ILX because I don't know where to go!!!

My clothes reek of Quenchers

Ha! Jeff and I both showered as soon as we walked in the door Friday night. There's little worse than waking up hung over and smelling like you slept in a dirty ashtray. Plus I'd just changed the sheets.

I hear Jenny's voice in the back of my mind going, "misogynyyyyyyyy....."

HAHAHA! I win!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Monday, 4 September 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

I'm back. Travelling sucks, but the weekend was great. Best anecdote:

We played the wedding reception, then had to go hit our bar gig right away. However, we weren't allowed to go to our van because of a nearby FOREST FIRE. The only other car we had was a pick-up truck, so we piled five dudes + instruments + open containers in the back, illegal immigrant-style.

Of course we got pulled over within two minutes. The cop, and this is the part that makes me love Tahoe, was CRACKING UP. He was like "Aw hell no. This is wildly illegal, but I'm busy...have fun, guys. You didn't see me, and if highway patrol catches you then you're toast." He was seriously laughing as he went back to his car. We went on our merry way and sang gospel tunes in the back to stay warm, it was totally ridiculous.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 4 September 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

Just got back from the Cubs game. Sarah got a foul ball! It bounced off of seats a couple of rows behind us and somehow ended up under our seats, where Sarah snagged it. It was awesome. Cubs suck.

Reviews of movies I have seen this weekend:

The Illusionist: Pretty mediocre. Giamatti and Sewell are pretty great, the rest of the movie is blah.
Candyman: Awesome, less cheesy than I expected, some pretty scary parts and good Cabrini footage.
The Inside Man: Fun. Snappy dialogue.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 4 September 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

We're going to the game tomorrow.

Jeff. (Jeff), Monday, 4 September 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I was mainly excited about seeing Zambrano pitch, until he gave up four runs to the Pirates (the Pirates!) in the first inning and got pulled in the second. :(

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 4 September 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

We also had the most stereotypical Cubs "fans" sitting directly behind us. Imagine this for 3+ hours: "Ohmigod, he's soooo smart ... he's like a fucking genius. A fucking GENIUS ... of course, he's a raaaaaaaaaaging alcholoic. I think he's got Napolean complex ... little man complex. But he's so smart."

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 4 September 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

I saw the movie Spartan this afternoon (as part of my Mamet kick...I've got Glenngarry Glenn Ross for tonight). I really, really liked it and I'm surprised that I hadn't even heard of it until the other night. Also, Brad Pitt would have been interchangeable with Val Kilmer in this movie.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 4 September 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

We watched Sexy Beast last night. It was better than I expected, although I can't imagine why I expected it to be not good what with Ben Kingsley and that other dude that I like and Oscar nominations and stuff.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Monday, 4 September 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

Glenngarry Glenn Ross was different from what I expected it to be. It's a good movie and all, but honestly it's the least enjoyable out of all the Mamet movies I've seen. Probably because of all the salesman and depression.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hm. I love that movie. It's the Mamet movies with twist endings that really piss me off. Or Mamet movies with Rebecca Pidgeon. GGR has neither, mercifully.

I watched a Mamet movie last night, actually, or at leastan early screenwriting credit of his -- The Verdict with Paul Newman. Powerhouse acting from everybody (James Mason, Charlotte Rampling), nice dialogue, pretty subtle as far as Mamet goes. And then the courtroom scenes are PREPOSTEROUS. He didn't even both to check if the things that happen in the courtroom would in any way be allowed in any courtroom ever. The whole third act just goes completely to shit. Grrr.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

HI! My Dad left this morning. I think Nick was about to explode having to be so friendly and talkative with my parents TWO WEEKENDS IN A ROW.

Also, it's my Birthday Eve.

Also, I need to drink alcohol.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

Happy almost birthday, Sarah.

I had enough alcohol and food over the weekend to last me all winter.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I had plenty of food. In fact, I probably got a little drunk off all the junk food, but I don't feel comfortable drinking in front of my dad, even just a little.

Nick said we're going to eat nothing but celery the rest of the week. I put a plug in for ants on a log to mix things up a bit.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Happy birthday eve, Queen Sarah Saturday!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

As long as you can get away with it quietly.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 14 September 2006 03:43 (nineteen years ago)

Or if you just don't care. Then it is OK to fart in an elevator.

If you are pregnant and the elevator gets stuck between floors.

i wound up heating up a frozen pizza. i bought two loaves of bread and some cheese in anticipation of making my long-sought after grilled cheese but forgot about that plan until i was halfway through my pizza. on the plus side i picked up most of the trash in my apartment and everywhere but my bedroom is now free of dirty clothes. and i picked up a replacement cable to i can resume burning my vinyl to my laptop for ipod use. now i just need some headphones.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

We had veggie chilli for dinner. MIAM!

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

dammit! that reminds me that i still haven't bought a can opener. electric one shit the bed about 3 weeks ago and i don't have a manual one. unless my swiss army knife counts.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

That's gross. Just get a manual one. The electric ones just take up counter space.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

no, the electric one mounted under a cabinet. or shelf in my case. i've been meaning to buy one for weeks and whenever i go out i keep forgetting. i need a can opener and picture frames. can opener and picture frames. can opener and picture frames.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, then, they use electricity.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

My after-school snack turned out to be dinner last night.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

otto, are you familiar with the peppermints?

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

i know for a fact that i owned at least two manual ones as recently as last christmas. they were handy because they both had bottle opener notches on them. they may not have made the move from my last apartment.

sarah, peppermints being a band? if so no. i saw you aren't on the bill with lynard's innards at the note. good band, shitty shitty venue. i was there friday and i'd forgotten how much i hate that place. craptacular in every regard.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha. We ended up turning that show down, but I just agreed to a show on 11/9 there with the peppermints. Hopefully, that wasn't the WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

i've been in and around bars for over a quarter century and the bartender at the note friday (the dude, the first one on duty) was the WORST BARTENDER I HAVE EVER SEEN. just horrible. inattentive, surly, slow.... just pissed me off.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be out of town 11/9 so i'll miss that show. i think i'll be in montreal or boston.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

DAN is your oven gas or electric? Sometimes electric ovens don't have a broiler drawer - you just turn the oven knob all the way to broil and then move the rack right up under the top heating element. Or, probably move the rack up and then turn the knob up to broil.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, so who wants to come check out a crappy bar with the worst bartender in the world for a late night Thirsty Thursday two months from now?? Huh huh huh??

I want to be in boston or montreal. I've never been to either.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that's how mine works.

I get off work at five and will hop on the brown line and be there by 5:30 probably, if not a little earlier.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

ok. See you guys around 6:30. Don't get too thirsty before I get there.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

maybe that dude won't be working. the female bartender who came in to provide support was awesome, taking multiple orders at once, getting the right drinks to the right people and always serving. she was great. the note does have $2 pbr tall boys so you can get a cheap buzz on.

xpost- i will be strolling up around the same time as jenny.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

In other news, I am enjoying the new Justin Timberlake album, but I have some questions:
* Isn't the Summer Lovin' song melody a direct ripoff of Shai's "If I ever Fall in Love Again," just not as good?
* Does he really have a crack smoking problem?
* Is it any coincidence that TIMBERLAKE is working with TIMBERLAND?

Riddle me that stuff, batpeople.

Also, Amanda, aren't you getting there earlier? I forgot about my chiro appt, which ends a little before 5, but I'll head over right after that.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Chicago.

I'm being a good little Jesse.

Saturday I went on a 3 mile run/walk (50/50), Sunday I did some weights, today the crippling soreness finally subsided enough that I could run again. I only did about 1.5 miles, 50/50.

(I think I told you that on Sunday I meant to go 1.5 miles but I missed my turn and wound up going 3 miles. Then it got dark and I was lost on a very very dark golf course in Audubon Park, wondering if alligators are diurnal.)

PS, the weather is pleasant. It's around 78 and not humid. Wait...78 at 9:30 AM kind of sucks....

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Don't worry about it today. I didn't bring the cigarettes.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

Is "sexy" a noun or adjective in that sentence? Is "back" a noun, modified by "sexy"?

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Thursday, 14 September 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

My life lately:

-Mice, roaches, spiders: things my roommates and I would like to kill, but which their boss (who spends a lot of time at the house, since she is the proxy land lady) will not allow us to kill. She is a young LGBT activist seminarian.

-Met with a Unitarian minister today. Unitarians are open-minded and liberal, but to the point of being a little flakey. This guy insouciantly dropped the GD bomb during our conversation, which is unlike most ministers I've known.
