Top Chef, Season 2!

It debuts Wednesday, October 18th at 11 PM (right after the Runway finale). More info can of course be found at the show's website; what it boils down to is a new batch of chefs and, praise be unto the TV gods, a new host! Zombie Wife Joel is out of the picture. By the looks of things this new person could also turn out bad, as most of her clips have some sort of soft porn enunciation going on.

As for the chefs, I can never get much out of soundbites and two-paragraph bios, so I guess I'll just have to wait for the show. It's probably hopeless, but I'm crossing my fingers for less of the overblown drama and more of the cooking, which is the real bread and butter (ha ha!) of the show in my book. Also, if we managed to get through a single episode without someone using the word "passion" to describe cooking, that'd be great too.

Anyway, it's countdown to throwdown as far as I'm concerned. Who else can't wait?

I watched the first season. Cooking competitions have a basic problem: the viewers can't taste the food.

With Project Rundway, the viewer can judge the work and form their own opinion about the talents of the contestants.

But I'll probably watch it anyways.

My feeling is that's just about balanced out by the fact that I know fuck all about fashion, and disagree with the Runway judges at least half of the time. Whereas typically when the judges liked something on Top Chef, it was something where I had at least said, "Oooh, I'd like to try that."
