PETETIMISM / CISTIMISM / ALANANDEMMATIMISM: Thursday 7th September

Its my birthday next week, so you know what that means!

That's right, some fiendish justification to have lots of parties.
Well this year you'll be pleased to hear that I am doing away with such fanny-dangle, in favour of just one party. Except I am sharing that party with other people. Three other people. So if you do the maths (it's a once a year deal) that means on my Thirty Third birthday, I am having a Third Of A Party.

Which is kind of apt yes?
So - here's the details

THURSDAY 7th SEPTEMBER
UPSTAIRS AT THE UNION TAVERN
6pm - 12pm
PETETIMSM (Its like a special version of Poptimism!)
Aka
CISTIMISM
Futhermore Known As
"ALAN AND EMMA ARE GETTING MARRIED THIS WEEKEND"-TIMISM

The Union Tavern is a lovely little pub on the Kings Cross Road, which does aces food downstairs and we have control of the upstairs.

It is here: http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub946.html

DJ's The Barnet Ape
Cis
AlanandEmma
And the usual Poptimism suspects

Come along

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 September 2006 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

curses, in reykjavik

Ed (dali), Monday, 4 September 2006 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

If on your thirty-third birthday you have a third of a party, does that mean you can act like you're eleven?

C J (C J), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:14 (eighteen years ago)

an improvement

Ed (dali), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

Sharing a party with three people besides yourself surely means you get a quarter of a party?

stop moving. (cis), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

Unless that night is the night when "two become one".

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

Cis, stop ruining this with the power of MATHS. You're only giving yourself less of the party.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'm looking fwd to EmmAlan's 'swinging lovers' set.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

It is not shared with four people, it on behalf of three different events. Hence a third.

Who has the Maths degree round here?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

will there be a VICTIMISM for vicky's birthday?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 4 September 2006 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

Yes. She will stand in the corner and people will throw things at her.

C J (C J), Monday, 4 September 2006 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

Who knows, I am hoping this might become a regular venue despite the pubs lack of equipment and obvious camber.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 4 September 2006 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

and also despite the pub's lack of convenient tube station

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

oh, it's only ten minutes at most from kings cross. and near lots of bus routes...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:50 (eighteen years ago)

very close to farringdon as well

Ed (dali), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

As I'm not in London, my drinks responsibilities are therefore delegated to Matt.

Badrock Example (Barima), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

there is a big hill between farringdon and pub though ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

yes, on our way back we could be set upon by bloodthirsty footpads as per soaring rates of violent crime in brirain as opposed to 1986!

will there be free cds?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

depends whether tom has time to do them (ie possibly not)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

is the chapel no longer a viable venue? (since it's on a thursday and all)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

If there are free CDs it will be a very limited number!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:31 (eighteen years ago)

woo! i request PARIS again!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 4 September 2006 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

A tenner on EasyJet.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

She might well do it for a tenner, but I don't think Paris travels on EasyJet.

C J (C J), Monday, 4 September 2006 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

None of this pseudo-pop guff, give us some PROPER pop like Christina Allugera Allegrio Allegrino Agellerunino Christine McVie.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

current playlist based on conversations Elsewhere:

bette davies eyes - kim carnes
fascist groove thing - heaven 17
various assorted Stars on 45 medleys
various assorted megamixes both official and otherwise

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

AMPy and I are thinking of coming to this. Maybe.

Goldene Schnitt (kate), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

What is this suddden first quarter of 1981 fixation, Carsmile?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

Bugger! I don't think I can come! :(

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

It's a common problem.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

1981 Pazz & Jop being discussed on lj, tom and i realising that (for us) it was THE BEST YEAR OF POP EVER (for us). medley/megamix thing due to d/ling millions of them to possibly play at wedding...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

don't forget the Altern 8 one...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

Well not the BEST exactly (in my case), but the year that turned me into a pop enthusiast.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

ok, yes, fair enough, probably a better description

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

For me the period July 1981-June 1982 was THE BEST YEAR FOR POP EVER (can I also mention that the Trevor Horn Dollar sides are finally out on CD, The Platinum Collection, a fiver in HMV kthnxbye). Though my two favourite singles of all time both came out in the 1981 half of that equation.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 06:54 (eighteen years ago)

For me the period July 1981-June 1982 was THE BEST YEAR FOR POP EVER

i was born in aug '82 :(

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

No doubt this is the very pop they have in mind, Lex.

i'll mitya halfway (mitya), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 08:14 (eighteen years ago)

lalala

i cleaned my cds last night ESPECIALLY, as they were all fingerprinty at the slaughtered lamb.

also, you lucky people, i have made TWO cds PACKED with top notch megamix action (althoug, tbh, a lot of this is for the wedding, unless anyone is desparate to hear 8 minutes of queen)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

And happy birthday today to Cis! (ahem)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CIS!

And CONGRATULATIONS ALAN AND EMMA!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

I like to fool people! And make stuff up.

I will be playing Dyyce!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

It looks like I could attend. I have only just seen the thread.

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

Just seen the thread. Looks like I could attend.

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETE!
self-congratulatory is us!

stop moving. (cis), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe I should write it a third way.

I really think I will attend.

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

good.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 September 2006 08:24 (eighteen years ago)

We'll be dusting down our megamixes and things we have found on the web... (bosh bosh bosh)

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

is it actually open till midnight? not looking forward to my diversity training which is all day friday, starting bright and early.

but i am looking forward to dancing to all the isms.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

The 12 thing seems to be some sort of slight of hand by the manager, we may need to put money behind the bar before eleven to allow them to keep serving. But they said we could dance til midnight. Mind you, he said a lot of things which may or may not be the case...

Its an easy trip home for you though!

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

Mind you, he said a lot of things which may or may not be the case...

Is this landlord a relative of yours by any chance?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

No, not in that way.

Now what was it I had to prove from last night that no-one believed of me.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

shame we havne't got someone called "j" whose birthday it is we can celebrate

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

here's a hint, Pete: it was a lie.

stop moving. (cis), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

I made myself late for work this morning making cds! and cake.

stop moving. (cis), Thursday, 7 September 2006 12:27 (eighteen years ago)

pete claimed last night that vietnam had the highest per capita consuption of ice cream IN THE WORLD.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 September 2006 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a contract anywhere in the world that isn't run by bloody Capita?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 7 September 2006 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to find getting to this difficult. Things have cropped up :(

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

omg the longpigs.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 7 September 2006 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

If by that you mean that they played 'She Said' and I wasn't there to witness/dance to it... I may weep.

though if it was, like, 'On & On' or something, then that I can live with.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 7 September 2006 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

Hope you all had fun! I am drinking in your honors tonight.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Thursday, 7 September 2006 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't need to remember Long Pigs. On the other hand, the cricket bosh that Cis played early on is the best thing in the world.

You were there in spirit, William.

Also, y'know, Poptimism!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 7 September 2006 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

Cripes that was good.

I think Poptimism, one way or another, has a new home.

SHE SAID: what was he thinking!
(He was thinking, I need to distract them from playing Kernicknernie on my IsPod, wot sounded RUB!).

Cheers to everyone who came: AND everyone who didn't come who were there in spirit. It WORKED. And I didn't get to play Andrew WK's "Party Genocide".

Pete (Pete), Friday, 8 September 2006 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

On the other hand, the cricket bosh that Cis played early on is the best thing in the world.

???

Andrew WK's "Party Genocide".

?????????????!!!!!!!!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, top night. Also, by far the biggest attendance of any Poptimism ever.

Best moment of the night = The Lex PLAYING AIR GUITAR.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

Also, by far the biggest attendance of any Poptimism ever.

This is extraordinary if true, given the short notice and the fact the room is a bit smaller than the Polar Bear.

Was really enjoying it right up to the point where I had to leave (far too early). Venue is nice altho they need a proper sound system ideally.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:23 (eighteen years ago)

It's not true. First and third Poley Bear were bigger - tho there was a bit of coming and going.

That was ACE. Also by cunningly drinking weak lager and not too much of it I can remember all of it. (Well nearly all of it).

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

I have never heard that Longpigs song in my LIFE before!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:27 (eighteen years ago)

I actually downloaded the 'highlights' of the longpigs album when I got home. I haven't listened to them yet though.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:33 (eighteen years ago)

Good grief, the Longpigs. We'd quite like some solo Hawley for a romantic waltz or two when our turn comes...

Sounds like it was a good night; accumulated tiredness/urgent letter writing duties took precedence on my account, but it looks as though this is going to become regular again so there you go.

All good wishes to the happy couple, and I hope Club P might be able to arrange something similar for this particular happy couple when we get hitched... :-)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:42 (eighteen years ago)

There was a Marcello shaped hole in the party...

Pete (Pete), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:46 (eighteen years ago)

Cricket bosh - that Abs song where he raps over Booker T and the MGs, Matt, it was on Poptimists about a month ago I think....wasn't feeling it then but as a Poptimism tune - WHOA.

Marcello I thought of you when I put on C.O.'s "Life On Mars"!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:47 (eighteen years ago)

I was thinkinh of John Sim - there would be a no more apt theme for the time-travel cop series...

I will talk to Nick, tha new manager of the place about more nights - poss the 5th or 6th next. As they were also talking about a mini refurb, I'll see if I can advise on that too (ie DJ gear - I'll put him off any other refurb cos the room was lovely).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 8 September 2006 07:53 (eighteen years ago)

yeh they must never get rid of that fireplace

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:03 (eighteen years ago)

(I said this to pretty much everyone last night) I was pleasantly surprised that large amounts of people dancing next to the CD decks had no effect on them - marked contrast to Do Dirt's first night at Dust.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:24 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha, take THAT Do Dirt...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:25 (eighteen years ago)

unfortunately Carsmile's Dr Alban Megamix did not require anyone to be dancing near it early on to cause much skippage. all the same, good to hear it tho.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:26 (eighteen years ago)

I figured that playing Busted would prove the ultimate test of the decks' worth and so it proved - there were a couple of skips when the Busted jumps were being done but beyond that not at all.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:27 (eighteen years ago)

hehe, i just had this feeling that She Said would work ;)

lauren played it on her breakfast show on wednesday and i thought MUST HEAR THIS LOUD, SOON.

WBS, as you weren't there cis appears to have built a replacement you (haha, apologies if that chap is someone off of here).

the skips on the Dr Allbran megamix were on the mp3, not the cd, as far as i could tell...

anyway, WELL DONE EVERYONE :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:31 (eighteen years ago)

I had to issue a DRESSING DOWN to SCOFFERS who doubted that ALBAN had enough hits to make a megamix. If I had my way his megamix would be 10 hours long.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:33 (eighteen years ago)

Absolutely. I mean, there's Beetlebum, Country House, There's No Other Way, Song 2, Clint Eastwood...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:34 (eighteen years ago)

... This Is A Low between each of those...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

so glad i missed 'She Said'!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:44 (eighteen years ago)

Word to The Lex: BEATZ AND LOLLEEZ ARE TEH BEST!!!

(AMPy and I sung this the entire way back to the tube.)

Loadsa fun. And thanks for that last blast of the Kennix which hauled us back from moving the car Kings Cross.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:00 (eighteen years ago)

i couldn't believe that i had no proper actual kenickie amongst the 100 odd cds i had with me. i agree with pete though, playing stuff off an ipod is rubbash...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:08 (eighteen years ago)

Do you think anyone was sober enough to notice?

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

I certainly wasn't

One Man's Mede Is Another Man's Persian (Dada), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

I had a great time, sorry to miss the end. I was glad to have my suspicions confirmed re: 'My Love' being perfect for early doors dancing.

marked contrast to Do Dirt's first night at Dust

Good job we're not there anymore then!

I love Kenickie, I UNDERSTAND Kenickie (Flyboy), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

I am looking forward to Doing some Dirt next week.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 September 2006 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Some photos up
