How is the All Music Guide a "metadata" database?

Isn't it just a database? It is not "data that describes other data"
- its just data.

Metadata is a harsh mistress. In theory, you can call the ingredients section on a box of crackers "metadata". That being said, every database could be considered metadata.

Information science has fuzzy logic, at best.

Anyway, I think good ol'Wikipedia's point is that AllMusic's pages provide something similar to a catalog record of individual bands, artists, etc. with linking features, similar to a library's online catalog.
