Hair of the dog - is there anything in it?

No, I don't mean burrs and twigs in the coat of your golden retreiver.

I had a horrendous hangover today - a heavy drinking afternoon yesterday, clubbing last night with the usual enhancements, no sleep. I have never had any faith in the 'hair of the dog' theory, but I had a whisky about an hour ago and I instantly felt 100x closer to being an actual human with working legs and everything. So do people think there's anything in it? If so, why does it work? How does it work?

it works, because of the usual enhancements, it helps to glide down

otherwise, forget it, stick to something healthy

Oh, it definitely works. I was feeling horrendous yesterday after GlasgowFAP, yet a pint of shandy at lunchtime followed by an actual real pint of proper booze and I was all right as rain again.

The worst thing though, is letting this degenerate into more drinking. Then you end up adding booze to the booze that is already in your system. Then when you get up the next day after that, you have two days worth of booze in you, and you think you might die. It's not pleasant. Trust me on this.

theres something great about drinking beer, out of the can, around noon, not high anymore, but somewhere, thats alright

like the world is somewhere here, and its going to be alright

Evidently, the shaky, queasy feeling is actually a rudimentary form of withdrawal from the alcohol. That's why a little hair of the dog takes the edge off. Won't fix the headache or the dehydration, though. And, yeah, remember: just a little hair, not the whole dog.

The hair o' the dawg is indeed one of the few joys of the day after. That first beer/whisky/etc. goes down SO well.

It was heaven. I wish I'd drunk it 4 hours earlier. Luckily I didn't feel the need to drink more; I seemed to get quite drunk from just the one whisky as if it somehow revitalised alcohol that was already in my system. Marvellous. And I feel (more or less) fine this morning.
