The return of the BBC's ratings stormer 'The Big Read', this time featuring Frankie-smasher and Betjeman-stalker Mike Read wolfing Mars bars in a bid to resusitate his flapping career?

Huey in Melbourne (Huey in Melbourne), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 08:20 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure I saw Mike "Ready" Read standing at the bus stop at Clapham Junction last night.

Lena and I were sitting in the Carfax Chippy a couple of Friday afternoons ago and there was a Bargain Hunt-type programme playing on the TV (BBC1) at the time. L was in open-mouthed astonishment throughout (or as open-mouthed as you can be while tucking into large cod and chips), particularly at the sing-song voiceover and what she was voicing ("And they've MADE a CLEAR profit of TWO pounds!").

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 08:20 (nineteen years ago)

Cheap as chips.

Tomorrow on BBC2: Tweenies, Our Planet, Underground Ernie, Me Too, Gordon the Graden Gnome, Big Cook, Little Cook, Pingu, Schools programmes, B&B the Best.

Temper Your Temper is a daytime programme about anger management, presented by Saira from series 1 of The Apprentice. I haven't seen it. Yet.

Your CLEAR PROFIT of TWO POUNDS thing is Car Booty. No other daytime programme would deal with margins that small, accompanied by a blurred, out-of-focus freeze-frame of some people attempting to shake hands.

I also haven't seen B&B The Best, but it appears to essentially be The Hotel Inspector fused with The Scottish One Off Dragon's Den Cusses Your Newsagent's Baaad multiplied by the worst title for a television programme since Now Is The Time: Night of Combat - Kickboxing.

Dear Santa, this Christmas I would like an area of expertise that isn't shit kthxbye.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

The BBC is so excited about it I can't even pull up their listings for tomorrow. What the fuck is it?

No, it's not a fuck.

Sxpost
hame, that'd be better than the tat which will fill the schedules.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Is Saira actually earning more than Tim these days? That'd be lulz. Although Paul is a multibillionaire now, so that's OK.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

I would like to see Suzy's appearance on News 24. Is it on You Tube?

Will whatever we are waiting for be on You Tube?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

Eventually, everything ends up on YouTube.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:46 (nineteen years ago)

it will be on youtube. it will be on the bbc site too, check the link ed posted.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

But are the music industry's marketing men muscling in on the technology? We talked to the lead singer of the band Shimura Curves, which has four tracks on the website Myspace.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:14 (nineteen years ago)

"lead singer" is kind of funny, but it's not like everyone involved in the band don't know what happens to facts in a 200-word blurb.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah totally, they asked amp if she was the lead singer and she explained how it works, but if you're the person writing that blurb for the bbc site, yeah, you cut it and also you want to make bbc look like it's got the lead singer so...

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:41 (nineteen years ago)

I watched it! I'd had a very late night but I managed to sliver off the couch to turn the telly on in time. and the Curves were worth it.

Great stuff!

This is the problem with MySpace now... even yr mum knows about it now.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

My ten year old daughter (along with every other school-age child in the country, I think) is on bebo, the kids' version of MySpace. She started to explain to me what this was, and was truly horrified that I knew all about it because I had MySpace mates of my own. BUT MUM! HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MYSPACE?? THAT STUFF IS NOT FOR MUMMIES! she yelled at me,

C J (C J), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

I'd have watched this if Grout had fuggin' told it what it was we were supposed to be watching, I was watching a crappy episode of "Will and Grace" instead!

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

And is Will and Grace on the BBC, Wednesday morning? ITN! (that's "I think not" )

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

Nobody was tellin' me nuttin' in this thread 'til about 2/3 of the way down by which time I'd stopped reading

Tad Sneery (Dada), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Well, blame the chattering asses, not us. We did tell you it would be exciting...

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

Plus YouTube doesn't seem to work on this 'puter

Tad Sneery (Dada), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

Always a bit disappointing to see people touting a "Web 2.0" spin though - the things people do to get on TV.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

Well done, you four, you looked good. I am glad they got a bit of guitar freakout in.

And well done Ed for getting the video up so quickly.

I like the way the male presenter sort of leaned back in an "I noramlly wear a leather bomber jacket" kind of way before the report started.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, MySpace seems to be generally broken today. What have you done, Kate?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

It was teh BBC!!! Blame them!

(Mine is still working perfectly.)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

Though it would be very funny if we broke MySpace after talking about how good it had been to us.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

Seems it's back on.

Who's Brian?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'm Brian, and so is my wife!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

i nashed off to peebles shortly after posting on this thread yesterday, so had genuinely forgotten all about BBC1/wednesday morning/something happening.

so, lying in bed dozing with the telly on at 7.40 or thereabouts, i was surprised when my sleepy brane recognised a melody i'd once heard on myspace.

a couple of seconds later, my excitable cry of "fuck me, it's ... thing ... that ILX band ... elliptical wotsits" woke not only mrs fiendish but the whole fucking hotel.

am i the only one to notice that the close-up of miss amp's myspace profile contained the words "disgustingly underage"? do i get a prize?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

ah: i get a booby prize for not reading the shimura curves thread before posting here.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

I noticed that Konal Dodds was almost on national television, albeit in thumbnail format, assuming it is the same Steve M.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 14 September 2006 06:11 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 14 September 2006 06:50 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, never mind then.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, apparently it has since been removed from her MySpace since she got (even more than usual) all these 16 year old boys trying to friend her.

;-)
