You could substitute the word "punters" for the words "Ivan Massow" really, couldn't you?

Can't make up my mind about Mr Massow - nor, I suspect, can he. Does he just chase ambulances or is he the Cliff Richard of BritArt (i.e. "I'm the REAL rebel, the REAL radical" etc.)?

Massow's opinions are part of a rising ground-Sewell of opinion amongst ordinary decent British people that modern art is mostly made by Tony Hancock swilling paint on a canvas with a bicycle, and that Tracey Emin's work is raw Sewell-age. Massow knows his Stallabrass from his elbow, therefore Massow must go!

also IM has contributed precisely zero to ica since he took job, surely? (sorry in this context i am a dodd-follower heh)

ica punter numbers may well be be down on two years back (actually i haf no ideea), but they are SURELY up on five-ten yrs ago? the REAL slump yrs were c.84-94, when it hadn't a clue what it was about (eg didn't even bother archiving its own monthly brochures grrr)

Good thing he's gone. There may (or may not, I don't much care) be a debate to be had about the 'relevance' of contemporary art but firing out cheap lines about 'pretentious, self-indulgent, craftless tat' certainly isn't the way to do it.

Anyway, surely it's the ICA's job to be pretentious and self- indulgent?

Much more interesting: new Langlands & Bell show starts tomorrow.

My what a punning puck we are today, Mr. Momus.
