I'm looking forward to digging into this; it's been 14 years since I've seen this!

I forgot how well Beatty uses real-life interviews from the likes of Walter Lippmann, Rebecca West, etc. Henry Miller gets the best bit: "A guy who's always interested in the condition of the world and changing it either has no problems of his own or refuses to face them."

was a little disappointed that we spent about 75 minutes having parties and walks on the beach in new york and then about 10 minutes overthrowing the provisional government but that's ok it is An American Movie and i totally teared up at diane keaton snowshoeing across the finnish border while warren beatty sends her unanswered telegrams in voiceover

watched this for the first time last night and this was my experience as well. fun, but i kinda assumed a big chunk of it would be about the 10 days that shook the world, and just when it seemed like that movie was about to get started, suddenly the elderly interviewees cut in saying "and then he wrote 10 Days That Shook the World, and it was a mighty big success!" uh, ok!

haven't seen it in years, but a good example of the BIG IMPORTANT FILM that nobody talks about anymore, like 'Amadeus'

my copy of 10 Days That Shook the World has a jacket blurb like 'As Featured in the New Blockbuster film REDS'

idk it seems to be more talked about than ever. My local art house aired a 4K version in April and it was packed!

I have an ambivalent response to this thing but I love that it exists and that it became a modest hit during Reagan's first year in office.

For a few years Reds was always on IFC or maybe one of the higher number HBOs. It was my Rounders or Shawshank, many hangovers were spent watching the Socialist Party Emergency National Convention.

I still have the still-sealed DVD, not even a blu-ray, that I bought a million years ago. Maybe I'll watch it this weekend if it doesn't have laser rot.
