yeah it's the internet explorer noise. i never found a way to turn it off. i don't miss it.

start -> settings -> control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> sounds -> take the template that contains no system sounds whatsoever or change the relevant one in the lower half of the window there.

I love when a mom or someone gets a computer and IS truly superconcerned ala "o god what is this clicking noise?" ie "WTF are all these flying toasters and why did they destroy my computer?" Sorry for such a c. '97 example but that's when my mom got her compy so I don't know what is prentending to ASPLODE compies these good days.
