There's a school named after George W. Bush

UH.

The official website.

How I discovered its existence:

Speaking to reporters during a visit to a school named after him in Stockton, Calif., Bush said he was sure that Hastert "wants all the facts to come out" about the behavior of Mark Foley, 52, a Florida Republican who resigned his House seat Friday as the scandal was emerging.

...

In his appearance at the George W. Bush Elementary School in Stockton, Bush referred to recent school shootings in Pennsylvania, Colorado and Wisconsin.

"...but it would NEVER happen in MY school!"

The school's campus includes the Rice Center for the Performing Arts and the Cheney Underground Bomb Shelter.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

Um, I wouldn't be surprised at a school shooting in Stockton.

Um, I'd be willing to bet that every U.S. president has a school named after him somewhere.

It's his first visit to the G.W. Bush school and he's being interviewed about a Republican pedophile.

ha ha.

Um, I'd be willing to bet that every U.S. president has a school named after him somewhere.

Yes, but I wonder how many acting presidents have had a school named after them.
Could you imagine having to send your kid to that school?

I know and the architecture is totally Nixonian too - it's got that prison-like, riot-proofed quality, much like all the Rutgers buildings from the same era.

that school looks like a german bunker

Thus my interest...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

That Clinton one opened during his presidency. I bet Robert Byrd has one named for him in West Virginia.

Now, La Joya School District, they've got some deserving names.

my high school was named after a mayor (laguardia). they just got milton glaser, creator of the iconic "i heart new york" logo, to design them a new logo:

i went to a junior high named after an astronaut!

the whole thing was built like some progressive education experiment in the early 70s. Yay for group education: "Clusters" instead of "rooms", each with a conversation pit, all ringing around the library that had an even bigger conversation pit(and was good for dramatic productions)

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

it amazes me that early '70s state/federal policies were so liberal, especially during a nixon presidency.

real savage-like (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

(cue obligatory stuff about how nixon was more liberal than kerry, etc)
