So who's gonna be watching? What will you watch?

I am so excited about the opening ceremony...all the pageantry, I love it. I love the skiing and the ski jumps. And figure skating, but the guys have more cheese than I can stomach.

My wife is Austrian. Austrians get a funny vibe around Winter Olympics time...

We've got some Canadian dude with a Swedish name competing in one of the ski jump events!

I admit, Kerry, I didn't think you'd be one for the Olympics, or at least a Salt Lake City "Love us!" Olympics. ;-)

I used to be a thorough and total Olympics junkie, from 1980 through 1998, I'd say. But Sydney tired me greatly, and the coverage was astoundingly weak and cheeseball here in the States. Allegedly things will be better this time around, but I have my doubts. This weekend is booked, but next weekend when I visit NYC, I suspect noted skating fan Ally will set aside some time for all of us to view and judge. ;-)

We cancelled plans to go out Friday night in order to watch the opening ceremonies.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But isn't the lineup of who's performing at the opening ceremonies terrifying? I seem to remember it being frightful.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just want to see the parade of nations, and I want to see who lights the torch (I hope it's an athlete, but not the 1980 hockey team). I usually shut it off when all of the singing comes on.

The one thing I am worried about is an excess of jingoism in the festivities.

prarie farm boys from sasketchewan moaning about throwing and coming , those gian rocks sliding sensually across the ice , i am all about
CURLING

anthony, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw yeah, CBC always has excellent and extensive curling coverage. I like quite a few of the winter sports, so if I get some extra time I will watch whatever is on.

Btw I love the CBC olympic coverage, it is a lot more about the actual sports and a lot less about Oprah-fied personal profiles of the athletes that the US networks seem to favor.

Nicole, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's basically the hockey world cup, as far as I care.

Kris, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That admittedly can be reason enough to watch. Especially when the Czech Republic and Russia draw each other.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course Anthony would be all about curling. hurry hard HARD HARD!

Im going to a party at a girls rez on campus, I have to wear a tampon around my neck due to my gender but what the heck, ought to be odd.

Mr Noodles is a good sport.
