I'm too lazy to look up the old thread, who the hell is going to be in town when Ned is in town besides Nitsuh who I'm already sorting things with, and what the hell do you want to do?

Ally, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You all of course *have* to answer. Or not, suit yourself. *cries in corner at potential rejections*

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nedtopia is a great title! I'd go if I lived in New York and knew y'all better and stuff like that.

jel, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you looking for tourist input? Or anyone who's planning on going?

bnw, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How the hell are you gonna get to know us if you don't drop wads of cash to come to NY and meet us, jesus.

Ally, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone. You better show, and talk much more this time, mr. bnw.

Ally, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nedtopia? You mean like Gauzy Shoegazer Intuition? Intense Tolkien Awareness? Strawberry-Kiwi Oasis?

Incidentally, I was wondering if the whole lot of us could have a Crossroads-watching party or something.

Michael Daddino, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Crossroads, that'd be the shit.

Ally, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Britney Spears' Acting vs. Jessica Simpsons' Acting vs. Mandy Moore's Acting, FITE!

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nedtopia? You mean like Gauzy Shoegazer Intuition? Intense Tolkien Awareness? Strawberry-Kiwi Oasis?

All of these things and more!

Incidentally, I was wondering if the whole lot of us could have a Crossroads-watching party or something.

Oh dear god. Maybe with enough drink beforehand that I can laugh uproariously at the proceedings, I can't imagine watching it in a normal frame of mind.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAMMIT. If you all go to see Crossroads I will be forced to weep bitter tears of regret and sorrow. You should all come up to Boston and catch the show one of my friends is doing ("The Wild Party").

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 6 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ILM3K!! I like, I like.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did we ever settle upon on a date?

bnw, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm open for the whole weekend if multiple event madness is the way to go. And it might well be. :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be in NYC for that weekend, but I might be pre-occupied w/ other stuff. Depending on when y'all make plans, I could kick that stuff to the curb and hang w/ y'all. Afternoon plans would be most ginchy (but I know you folks need your beauty rest...)

David Raposa, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe Saturday early evening is the appropriate time for a get together.

Ally, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Michael hosting the Crossroads thing? I really hope that wasn't a joke.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends on what you mean by "hosting": what would my responsibilities be, were we to go ahead with this plan? Buying tickets, maybe?

Michael Daddino, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just rent out the whole theater. Then we can have fun.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Especially if the theatre is Sony Lincoln Square.

Ally, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So this is goin' down a week from Saturday, right? Maybe we should go to a bar before the movie, And then one after the movie. Or just sneak in some booze to the theater and take shots every time theres a shot of obligatory Britney cleavage.

bnw, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We'd be drunk by five minutes in. Which is a good thing, mind you.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we actually going to the movie? Cos I don't think I really wanna do that.

Ally, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It'll probably come down to the general level of inebriation at the time.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And whether or not Wheeler's there. Maybe they'll give out promotional posters!

Ally, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael you don't even wanna know what I thought you originally meant with your suggestion.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a second ... where are Ms. Simpson's acting chops getting broiled? (That's not really her on the cover of Maxim, is it?)

David Raposa, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK CAN WE COME UP WITH THE DILLY YO INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT JESSICA SIMPSON JESUS FUCKING CHRIST YOU PEOPLE PISS ME OFF. Anyhow.

Okay. questions:

A) Who's in?

B) Anyone have a specific request for meeting place? My own thoughts on this are the same as usual MIDTOWN IS BEST. Anywhere between, say, Chelsea to the lower-Upper East/West Side are easy to get to from any point in NYC, be it an outer borough or a midtown hotel. If someone has objections or knows of a fantastic place outside of this area (such as that super cheap bar with the weird little room we went to that one time, Tracer what was that place?), now is the time to be known. Otherwise, TOMORROW I will announce the meeting place and it will be in that area, I just haven't decided where. Suggestions should take into account large group size and as such pick a place that will fit a decent sized group into one area together. Also suggestions should be for places that are OPEN, not closed (I'm talking to you again, Tracer)

C) Saturday, around 3 or 4pm to the later hours - any objections to this time frame?

D) As an aside I'd prefer a bar where I can wear jeans, just so you all know, I won't be picking any Potion-type bars.

I AM THE BAR MEET NAZI WORSHIP ME. Gracias.

Ally, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going; I don't have any bar or meeting place ideas; the time sounds fine to me IF we do the Crossroads thing.

Michael Daddino, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a) I'm in. Early evening Saturday is best. b) I don't care where we go. Jeans & non-extravagant cocktails will be fine.

Pyth, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We'll see how we all feel regarding the Crossroads thing, ok? I'm sure not everyone's going to want to go, so we'll discuss at the time, getting together that early will leave plenty of time for choosing alternate activites such as Crossroads, bar hopping, pool, etc.

Just a reminder that I will announce the winner of the Grand Bar Challenge tomorrow (ie the meeting place), sometime in the afternoon - so get the suggestions in while you can. Because once the Bar Meet Nazi announces, all is done.

Ally, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there most likely. I don't really know the bar scene but I'd put another vote in for casual in case I forget not to wear my Chucks.

bnw, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The details:

We're meeting sometime between 3 and 4pm at BLIND TIGER ALE HOUSE. It's got tons and tons of beers, plus some scotch and bourbon and tequila if that's your thing, probably other stuff too. Also on Saturdays between 1 and 5 there is free brunch stuff so if you get there early there might be stuff left. It is at 518 Hudson which is on Hudson and 10th. You take the A, C, or E to 14th St and then walk down to 10th, it's right on Hudson between W. 10th and Charles - if I remeber correctly it's not very far from the 1/9 Christopher Street station HOWEVER look into this and think hard before you take that advice cos I'm usually way off on these things.

It's is casual and not that pricey, so there. I've actually never been but my friends said it was good, if they are lying we will leave and walk over to the belgian beer bar, which is like right off Christopher but I don't remember the exact address. We might do that anyhow cos I really want some belgian fries.

Ally, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, the Blind Tiger is good. I dislike beer in general, but they have a huge variety, it's cool. And it IS really near the Christopher St PATH stop, hardly even a block in fact. Just exit the station and walk east to Hudson, then one or two blocks north. The bar is on the southeast corner of whichever intersection.

Pyth, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's what I thought, I always get off on the 1/9 Christopher St. station when I go downtown, and I remember passing it bunches of times. Thanks :)

Ally, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What did the tiger do, I wonder? Drank the beer? This sounds fantarse-tic and I am gratified that y'all are capable of making plans without my input, which is urgent and key at the mo.

Hey Ally did you go see Jarvis at the Slipper Room? Mattie tried to go with a date but there was a line around the block when he got there.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I got trapped at the wedding til like 5am - drove home ina limo though, totally swank. Hopefully my pictures will be developed, I'll show you.

I'm psyched for this.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hot damn! Directions! That is SO COOL! (And you're sure this place will be open, riiiight?)

David Raposa, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BTW, mark me down as a Definite Possibility. Other wishy-washy folks (along with y'all that are actually going), SPEAK UP!

David Raposa, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

urgent and key: i am not leaving for washington until next week. therefore i can come. however money is wevvy wevvy tight right now, so this will be major decision: cheapest route into nyc from where i am = $44 bucks + subways + drinks = ?? (also, i'll need to have some sort of electro-shock collar installed to keep me from record shopping.)

jess, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Subway is relatively cheap ($3.00 roundtrip); drinks will probably get bought for you (work on your puppydog face & sob stories); leave credit cards @ home to keep yourself from shopping (God help you if you sink so low as to buy music from a busking musician trolling the 6 train playing trumpet along to a CD) = problem SOLVED!

David Raposa, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

therefore i can come.

Hurrah! Solution to record shop dilemma -- don't hang around with me. "Oh, I've got some money to spend, so where's this Other Music place?"

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, shut up, Raposa. Anyhow, Jess, I'll not allow you to shop, no nancy pancy trips to the freaking Sanrio Mall (TRACER HAND) this time, so ergo no shopping. I refuse to buy anyone else drinks though since I will be most likely the only female on board for this ridiculous ride. People should be buying me drinks, plus I gave someone $20 last meet to buy me a drink, and never got change back and later found out going to the bar myself that my drink cost $4 so some scrub pocketed $16, I've worked it down to Wheeler or Tracer. Plus, I'm a student now. So you all should buy me drinks.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally now you haff learned the secret of how I buy stuff without a credit card!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will buy all y'all that are there a round of drinks, regardless of your collegiate status or monetary situation or telling me to shut up when I was merely winking coyly at Tracer. I'll even buy a pint for Josh and mail it to him.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"...since I will most likely be the only female on board for this ridiculous ride."

Chopped liver, reporting for duty.

Pyth, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

THANK GOD. I'm sorry, it's a knee jerk thing because I'm ALWAYS the only girl who shows unless I bring one of my psychotic friends. Can I just say thank you thank you thank you thank you.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And Maura said she should be able to show as well, and hopefully Lola might be able to turn up, though I know her schedule was tight. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

URGENT AND KEY: ned has to promise at least once flounce this weekend.

jess, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just the once? Okay then.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just to make sure this isn't forgotten, of course.

I'm plotting my subway path from Grand Central (where I'll be coming into the Citay) - looks to be that the best way to the stop is getting on the 4/5/6 heading downtown, switching to the L, and then getting off @ 14th Street / 8th Avenue. Any of you seasoned subway takers have a take on the best route?

And, hey, all you out-of-towners coming into NYC (all ... 1 of you?), should we meet up @ Grand Central to make sure we all get lost together? (I'd IM peeps, but AOL has conveniently misplaced my Buddy List, YOU BASTARDS.)

David Raposa, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Halloo?

David Raposa, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Take the S or the 7 from Grand Central to Times Square, then the A/C/E downtown to 14th. Union Square station is even more confusing than Times Square, and the 42nd Street trains are better than the 14th Street one.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's better to meet at the Blind Tiger (ARRRR!!). The subways are not terribly confusing, you can get to the Christopher St. stop any number of ways - Ben's is probably best, just make sure you get on the 1/9 (local) and not the 2/3 (express). That way if someone is late or goes missing (raises hand sheepishly) the other foax won't be milling about in Grand Cetntral trying to get a signal on their cell phone, they'll be warm and comfy. Can't wait to see all youse! I promise not to get hammered tonight.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

woo! party! etc.

jess, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

have a nice time: wish the cross-town connected all the way to hackney :(

mark s, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i just realized that this will be the first time i'll be back to nyc since i moved. there's so much i wanna see and there won't be enough time. it's kinda sad. especially if i run into anyone i know (infintessimally small chance tho that might be.) and i may not be back for...who knows? now i'm all wistful like sinXor there.

jess, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"just make sure you get on the 1/9 (local) and not the 2/3 (express)"

I do not believe I mentioned the 7th Ave IRT at all. I recommend the 8th Ave IND, or "A/C/E," all of which go to 14th Street and 8th Ave. From there, it's a breeze-- one block west (towards the Hudson River), then south on Hudson Street to the Blind Tiger.

Will I be there?, you all ask; possibly. If not, Laurel is authorized to speak on my behalf. But remember: whenever one glass of booze too many is stupidly hoisted, and one forgets mid-sentence just what one was talking about, my spirit is present.

Benjamin, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a feeling someone is going to wish my spirit was there rather than the real thing by the end.

jess, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yo, Jess, that mean you're going, foo?

David Raposa, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

INDEED.

jess, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is this get-together tomorrow?

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

INDEED.

Be there or be square, yo. I'll be there after dropping my 401K earnings @ either Other Muzak or Kim's Underground Emporium of Musical Goodness, Yessir. Or maybe I'll just go straight to the meeting place. You never know.

David Raposa, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's now 1:30 and the time draws nigh. FEAR, FEAR!

I might not actually do much record shopping while I'm here. Oh well, more money for next weekend at Fingerprints in Long Beach...

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

crosstown Ben-mobile is making the trip into Manhattan - phhhh3333333444444RRRR

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont eeeeeeven want to talk about it.

jess, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well -- it was great! I'll start a separate thread about the aftermath. ;-) And Jess, WHERE WERE YOU? You awful man. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 17 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I 'm drunk. I ate belgian fries. Fuck everyone who didn't show. Especially those who are in the thing with me. Mentally at least. I wore a very professional outfit.

Ally, Sunday, 17 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
