Fuck it--it's the rolling G00blar self-promotion thread!

HI DERE, I'll no longer be clogging up other threads with band news (as much); lucky for you!

Terms:
G00blar is the name under which I post on ILX.
Gooblar is the band that I make pop music with.
Here is my band's page on a fairly well-known 'social networking' site.
Here is a video of my band playing a song at our second show ever.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 9 October 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, we've got shows in London coming up! Come!
This Friday, 13 October, at teh Betsey Trotwood.
Thurday, 2 November, at The Legion.
Friday, 17 November, at The Wilmington.

I should also mention that we're really, really great.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 9 October 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's a good thing I started this thread; imagine all of the off-topic G00blar gossip that would otherwise be constantly seeping into other threads!

Attention all fans: The Legion will not host live music anymore, due to noise complaints, so our 2 November show has been moved across the street to 333. We're headlining, so on at 10pm.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

GRARGH FFS PEOPLE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LIVE SOMEWHERE NOISY DON'T LIVE ON OLD STREET ARGH ARGH FFS.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeah serious (I was excited for the legion)

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

Play louder at the 333.

Emsk, call me re: keys.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 19 October 2006 07:42 (nineteen years ago)

i have the keys (was frantically searching for waterstones bag as russian described, but is actually blacks bag). i can drop them at yours sometime after 5.30?

yeah the legion would've been 586943 times nicer. 333 is rank, what day is nov 2nd? hope not a friday - last time i was there on a friday it was invaded by all these horrible white-tracksuit gold-chain people.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

thursday; I've seen such invasions myself..

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, but I won't be in as I have to go to the fedex depot in Stratford after work. CAn you pop them in an envelope and post them through the door?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

Are all bands booked for the legion for the foreseeable being moved to the 333?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

just got your message - any of these things is fine, let me know what suits you. i'll be in all day waiting for delivery/doing mailout once it's arrived, free for sure once post office is shut.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

xpost Dunno--promoter dude called me up and said he had some bad news, then sort of remembered exactly who he had called and said "oh, uh, actually, it's not really bad news", and told me of the change of venue. Made me think that they had to cancel some shows (makes sense, especially if 333 was already booked for most nights), and he was just making a slew of phone calls.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:18 (nineteen years ago)

WTF? No more Legion? Sucks, cause I actually quite liked that place.

Hang on - 2nd NOvember is a Sonic Cathedrals night. Are you playing Sonic Cathedrals, Gooblar?

(Can't go anyway, because we're playing that night ourselves, but still. I will die of jealousy if you are playing SC.)

Blah Blah Blah (kate), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

No f*cking idea; we just got told we're playing 333. Can't seem to see any listings at all on the 333 site tho.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:26 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, now I see. Sonic Cathedrals apparently is advertising 2 November at the Legion. I had no idea about this! Are there two stages at the Legion? We certainly weren't on a bill with Damo Suzuki and The Early Years.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:28 (nineteen years ago)

No, there aren't two stages at the Legion. I think that this noise complaint is revisionist bullshit, actually, and your promoter double booked!

Blah Blah Blah (kate), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

Posting through the door is best as I hopefully will be encumbered with heavy box.

Also see G00blar, he is great and his drummer has a cheeky grin and wandering eyebrows.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 19 October 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

xxpost, yeah, I'm starting to suspect that too. Maybe I'll cause a big scene and be all "What, you don't think we're a bigger pull than Damo Suzuki?".

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 19 October 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe Damo is doing a whispering set, and his drummer is playing the drums with his eyebrows?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 20 October 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

goddamn double-booking promoters fcuked it up totally. 333 gig now cancelled due to idiocy, miscommunication (b/w promoter and venue), and general fuckwittery. Aaaargh.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Man, that sounds rub. I'm sorry.

If it's any consolation, we've just had one of our gigs changed day because of double booking. But at least the promoter was honest that it was doublebooking.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, serious. This promoter not only wasn't honest about the first double-booking, they only found out(!) about the second a week before the gig. Must now send second emails to complete strangers telling them that the gig that they weren't going to bother coming to anyway is now off.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Yes, yes, yessir, Gooblar will finally be playing again this very Friday (17 November) at Up All Night at the Wilmington. It looks like we're headlining, and unless that somehow means that we have to provide a drumkit (we have none) we SHALL be on stage at 10pm sharp.

Attractions:
1. New material.
2. A cover (or two) that will make you go, "hmmm, I now see this song in a whole different light" or "hmmm, I've never heard this song before, but I sure do like this Gooblar version of it".
3. Hot drummer.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

C'maaaan.

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

I might be able to make this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, excellent.

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

This Saturday, 13 January. The Hope & Anchor, Islington. On stage at 10.

Repeat after me:
G00blar gigs are heavenly,
in two thousand seven-ly.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

BOO i canna make this, working at another gig. oh gooblar i am gonna mail you though right now about something.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:22 (nineteen years ago)

I don't have anyone to go with. :-(

Also, I might be recording this weekend, with someone ELSE.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

Y'don't NEED anyone to go with! Come early! Hang out w/ the band!

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

It's pathetic to go to gigs where the only people you know are the band. :-( I'm sick of doing it. It makes me feel like I have no friends. Besides, I'm mad at your guitarist for never answering his mail.

Anyway, like I said, I may be recording that weekend, so I might not be hanging out with you or TISSP! or anyone. We shall see.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

(Sorry, that sounds sulky and I'm not trying to be all down on your thread.)

Everybody go see Gooblar! THey are great and you should go and see them.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

I'm heading off to college. By the time I get there I want to see many posts here confirming that the ILXLONDONMASSIVE is all, indeed, ready to rock this weekend.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 8 January 2007 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

I can't manage this, I'm at Avenue Q / tubewalking.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 8 January 2007 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

*sigh* My ultimatums don't hold much weight, I suppose.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 8 January 2007 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still waiting to hear about my recording session. If it's Friday then I may go to Cambridge on the 13th. If it's Saturday then I might swing by your gig afterwards if I can persuade the person I'm recording with to go.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

So I had a dream last night in which some big shot record industry shyster wanted to take us on an extensive tour up and down Britain, opening for some unnamed (but definitely big) band. I was all excited until I realized it was planned to start in the beginning of september when I'll be getting married and/or honeymooning. :-(

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, OK, that's pretty obvious in meaning.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe that's why I didn't mention it to K...

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

Being happily married is much better than being a rock star. Not that I'd know about either. But, like, from observation.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know. No real conflict there anyway. She wants me to be a rock star more than I want to be myself.

Still, the dream probably reflects my general anxiety over anything that requires a lot of planning and depending on a lot of other people (in this case a wedding); there's nothing intrinsic in a wedding or getting married (and certainly not getting married to this particular lovely lovely person) that I'm even the remotest bit stressed about. I think.

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

I've been involved in the planning of a major UK tour. I've never been involved in the planning of a wedding. I'd be more scared of planning a wedding, but that's just me. I wonder why your subconscious mind thinks there's a conflict at all.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I'm going to go to this now, as Billy No-Mates on my own, as I've got fuck all else to do this weekend now. Anyone else going?

The Long Grey And Overcast Tea Time Of The Soul (kate), Friday, 12 January 2007 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Unless of course I can figure out how to make .avi files run on my computer, in which case I'm staying home and watching eight hours of Torchwood on Saturday night. (And maybe even digging out that Captain Jack/Captain Jack Doctor Who/Pirates of the Carribean crossover slash.)

We're on at 8:30 this Friday, so it's easy for everyone:

Get to the Betsey at 8. Have a drink. Rock with Gooblar. Walk down the street to Poptimism. Dance with Gooblar. Have a bit too much to drink. Maybe flirt more than you wanted to. Sleep with Gooblar.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 29 January 2007 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

AND THE ANGELS FORGET TO PRAY FOR US

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

sleep with g00blar is the best bit, form a queue.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

is it 8.30 realtime or is that pr time? i'm going to a friend's leaving drinks off oxford st at 7. it takes 10 or 15 mins by bike from there to the betsey but y'know timing is crucial.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

I have been reminded that I am having dinner with my folks on friday eve, so I will miss g00blar, but make the end of poptimism.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

I'm celibate, I'm not sleeping with anyone! Humph! I will, however, sing a duet about flirting too much but not sleeping with anyone with you. ;-)

I will be attending this. I may go and get dodgy dodgy Thai cult food first, num.

I Am Totally Radioactive! (kate), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

Celibacy is fine, of course; 'twill probably not curtail your enjoyment.

8:30 is REAL time.

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

ok it turns out dinner is next friday, which causes its own problems but not with seeing g00blar.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Hooray!

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

Argh, I am so confused about what is going on the rest of the weekend. I thought I was going to be working on Sunday so I scheduled things for Saturday, but now it looks like Saturday is better for working. ARgh argh argh. But that means I should not stay out late or get very DRUNKED at the gig.

(Keep that evil Whisky away from me.)

Yes, indeed. THIS COMING MONDAY (5 March), Hoxton Bar & Grill (or Bar & Kitchen; they can't seem to make up their minds), G00blar headlining.

This will probably be our last show 'til mid-April, just so you know.

1. Get thee to Kilburn.
2. Go see Shimura Curves at the Luminaire at 8.
3. Pop next door to the Good Ship to see Gooblar at 10ish.
4. If, at any point, the elevator tries to bring you down, GO CRAZY.

(And why doesn't Cowboy Jim post here?)

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)
