The greatest British character actor of all time?

From Time Bandits to The Island (the original), Time After Time to Titanic.

He's been in two Titanic movies, one as lead and the other as evil baddie. < / IMDB trivia board, doubtless >

― scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:32 (twenty years ago)

excellent even as John Irenicus in Baldur's Gate II, proving that all actors protraying villains need to be classically trained

― kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 20 October 2006 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Rickman has a broader range.

Aye. From the IMDB bio...

David Warner once described his childhood as "messy". His father changed jobs often and moved from town to town. David attended eight schools and "failed his exams at all of them". His parents separated when he was a teenager and he only saw his mother again seven years later - on her deathbed. After a series of odd jobs, he was accepted at the Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts (RADA) where he was very unhappy. After RADA, he became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and got the part of Blifil in Tom Jones (1963). With the title role in Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment (1966) and a two-year stint as Hamlet with the RSC, Warner became a star at 24.

never played the lead in a horrible British romcom (a la Rickman in "Truly Madly Deeply") so Warner wins

I like Rickman in TruMaDe.

― GILLY'S BAGG'EAR VANCE OF COUPARI (Ex Leon), Friday, 20 October 2006 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Warner was one of those actors whose crappy, strictly-for-the-money movie performances I'd go out of my way to watch, as a teenager.

Classic, if only for the murder of Trotsky speech in Morgan. I feel like the heir to David Warner is another David- David Thewlis.

― The Redd 47 Ronin (Ken L), Saturday, 21 October 2006 03:09 (twenty years ago)

twelve years pass...

Morgan was on last night, so many great lines.
