Just because I'm tired of waiting to talk about this.
Finished tonight; I'm pretty sure that's the best television I've ever seen.
Plenty to discuss, but for now: how many people thought Meth was gonna do the 36 chambers bit on Omar when he stepped into Prop Joe's office?

"How bout I take you in the back and get deviously brutal on your ass? Like I sew it shut and keep FEEDIN you and FEEDIN you and FEEDIN you"

There's a lot of great fucking stuff in the finale, but Bodie's last stand and Randy's getting cornered in the group home are possibly the toughest (in a good way) scenes to watch this show has ever brought.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 26 October 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

Bodie - you wuz ma boy! Shit, I loved Bodie.

The resurgence of McNutty! It's all set up for a big finish next season...

I want somebody to make a list of all the things called out on the street as drug names - I think the stand outs for me are WMD'S and this season "Brokebacks, got those brokebacks!"

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

Mistletoe! Who want that mistletoe?
Big Yellow Bird! Sellin' big yellow bird over here!

Michael being turned by the darkside into the spectre of death in a hoodie was some painful shit to watch and the windup of Dookie slinging on a corner for Marlo was equally unpleasant.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 26 October 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

As totally excellent as this season was, at the end it felt like a big set-up for next season. No arcs came to a close - they all opened up bigger, if anything.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah. I wonder if that was part of the plan, to get HBO execs hooked on the cliffhanger so they'd HAVE to renew it.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

I wouldn't have it any other way, mind! Seeing what happens to Dookie and Michael was especially hard to take... but was it ever going to be any other way? Nah. And now, what? Next season, they'll be chasing those guys, right? Oh, Prezbo! There was nothing you could do! It's going to be hard to take though. Everything has been put in to place nicely, so it all wraps up next season.

And Weebay's son... he's the only one doing alright at this point.

What of Omar?

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

It's going to be very interesting to see if they follow through on their hints and have Daniels as commish next year; suddenly the ultimate cop story fallback plot device - not being able to do your job right because of an unreasonable boss - is gone. Freamon running major crimes, Rhonda prosecuting them, Daniels as commish - what will the good guys do if they actually get the reins?

It's hard to believe, though, that Carcetti is as golden as he seems.

Weebay's son is one lucky fuck.

The stuff with the kids - in both classrooms - was in another league to everything else. Marlo was great, Bodie was great, Omar was great, all the cop stuff was great, but the stuff with the kids was just amazing.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

One thing I especially found poignant was when Herc got blamed for not bringing Randy to Bunk, when it was in fact the other detective who threw away the message out of spite who was to blame. Herc fucked up a lot this season, becoming a hateful police villain in ways Valchek, Burrell and Rawls can only dream of, but even he got dicked around, sorta.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah - a pretty sharp turnaround from having the mayor's balls and unlimited options!

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

i really enjoyed the insight to michael's thugification - when chris murked that pederast it was likely the first empowering experience of his life. and chris understood where he was coming from better than anyone as he's been though the same hell.

interesting all four kids had people in positions to save them but only namond's worked out. prezbo and carver weren't willing to make the commitment (carver could've just taken randy - it would've been fine). cutty made a valiant attempt w/michael but just didn't have the right stuff to get through to him. nemond by having a little more flexibility and charm and a lot of luck to run into bunny, managed to find a sane situation.

the only references to sanity these kids had were randy w/his foster mother and bunny and prezbo's classes - besides that their environments were pure confusion. and they were so scarred already - randy wanted to be good so bad, but he showed over and over that he just didn't know how - all heart, no clue.

carcitti's betraying his principles in his first week in office shocker!

daniels and pearlman on the rise! seems like daniels is gonna get reintroduced to reality real quick. as to weather it happens when he's commissioner or major is up in the air.

i hope they lay off the mcnulty next year - i get it already. although it was nice of them to show that good mcnulty was just a short break from gross mcnulty.

bubbles masterminding herc's demise was too sweet - get that meathead off the street and into a security guard uniform asap.

i was shocked at rawls misplaying his power grab so badly, kinda think it was out of character - that one's on the writers. they tried to explain it by having burrell tell rawls that he should stick to operations cause he's no good at politics - but all rawls has ever done is play politics. which is not to say he couldn't fuck up - but the show seemed to be saying he hit the peter principle. which just seems ludicrous to me, he's been the smoothest guy all along.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

bodie thinking the game was all warm and fuzzy finally caught up w/him just go talk to marlo, he'll understand. more like RUN FOR YOU LIFE LIL KEV!!!

he always was a cut above, i'll miss that guy, eye all rolling incredulously.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know where you're getting that warm and fuzzy shit from. Dude was ordered to kill one of his best friends and later hung out to dry by the gang he'd devoted his life to. They just finally gave him one too many spoonfuls of shit to eat is all.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Bodie was also a master of the excellent side spit!

Oh HERC! I love that the Carver/Herc divide just got bigger and bigger and we see how somebody like Herc can actually get ahead (a little) in the police. Making the same dumb mistakes now as he did then, and Carve's just moved on (so nice to see that speech Bunny gave him in season 3 actually sunk in).

Also the bit with Herc gives some insight as to how somebody like Valchek gets to where he is. Although hopefully Bubs put a stop to that, even if his arc took a nasty downturn near the end there.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

I loved how parts of this season were straight up HORROR movie - Chris and Snoop were like Jason or Michael Meyers - "zombies"... Freamon, staring at the plywood nailed onto one of the vacants: "this is a tomb!!"

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know where you're getting that warm and fuzzy shit from.

he was a true believer in the game, thinking it would support him, believing wholeheartedly in its regulations (always talking about why you want to leave baltimore, why you wanna go to school, it's all right here). despite all the bitching he comported himself with an undeniable enthusiasm, while depression was the mode for everyone around him. he really loved that shit, thinking it loved him back - which of course was the hight of cluelessness.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

another big turning point for carver was when he realized what a huge ass he was for betraying daniels and his unit to rawls (that may have been part of bunny's speech, don't remember).

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

Also the bit with Herc gives some insight as to how somebody like Valchek gets to where he is.

both assholes, but one's a player and the other a playee - valchek's game is tight.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

So are we going to see more of "the most effective Leiutenant in the Baltimore Police" as the MCU goes after Marlo? I hope so. And I bet his indifference to anything but his beach house fucks 'em up somehow.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

that dude'll probably be retired by next season. if daniel's makes comish we'll be looking at leiutenant freamon.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man, I forgot how awesome it was to see Omar in jail. That was some serious EEEE and tension, seeing how he deals.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 26 October 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

the little sub-plot of the ring and corrupt cop was awesome.

am0n (am0n), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

You mean the asshole? Is he corrupt? I didn't catch that.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

The ring starts with the rims guy that Marlo terrorizes and ends up on Marlo's hand until Omar snatches it at a card game, but it gets lifted by corrupt cop who gives it up at gunpoint to Michael when they key his car and douse him with paint. Michael threads it on a chain that he wears and that Marlo sees when he drops by the crib...
"Where'd you get that?"
"Some cop. Why? You want it?"
"Naw... you keep it."

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha oh man I remember each of those things happening but I totally missed that. I R bein an idiot.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

Is he corrupt? I didn't catch that.

oh so u didn't catch how he robs basically everyone he comes across and breaks a little kid's fingers. i see

am0n (am0n), Friday, 27 October 2006 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

Officer Walker is an evil motherfucker.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 October 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

am0n do you know what corruption means?? it's not a synonym for "evil"

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

do you know what pigeons mean??

am0n (am0n), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

my 'ep 13' (which I thought was really 12) opens with Bubbles claiming to have given the kid a hot shot, but I didn't see that (though I watched one that said ep 11) - was there a real ep 12, or have the numbers just been completely screwed?

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - i don't know that he's "evil" but i do know that a) he's an asshole and b) cops that commit crimes while on the beat, whether it's taking bribes, extorting, keeping evidence, or stealing money/ring/dvds, can be considered corrupt

milo i think u missed an episode

am0n (am0n), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:28 (nineteen years ago)

OK yeah i forgot about him taking that cash... from Randy? anyway no big deal - but I obv just miss so much I thought there was some kinda major shit Walker was into with City Hall or something when you said that

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yes Milo, you missed ep. 12.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, on torrents, ep. 10 was actually 11, and 11 was also 11. i think12 was always 12 and 13 the same.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:48 (nineteen years ago)

slooowly downloading 12 from demonoid now.

Azureus sux.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i never use azureus anymore. bittorrent all the way

am0n (am0n), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:56 (nineteen years ago)

There's a new OS X client that works great (x torrent or xtorrent), but it won't let you select only one file from a group to download.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

holy shit xtorrent is the bomb!!!

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 27 October 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

marlo took the ring from the fat deli man who helped setup omar, not the rims guy - the rims guy is marlo's advisor, he respects him.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 27 October 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

uh, is that nitpicky enough?

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 27 October 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

azureus is clunky but its the only mac client w/all the features you need

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 27 October 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

I remember him taking the ring from the cat selling rims... or at least it was at his store. I know he USED to respect that dude; I thought the setup there was that Omar didn't respect anyone, which is where the story plays out from there.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 27 October 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Omar robs convenience-store guy
Convenience-store guy meets Marlo to explain ('terrorism and shit') at rim shop
Marlo tells him he wants his money... and that ring. And fuck terrorism.
Omar steals ring at poker game.
Chris walks in and fakes a stickup of the convenience store, shooting the woman and framing Omar.
Dirty cop takes ring from Omar at arrest.
Michael takes ring from dirty cop when they get back at him.

Fin.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Not quite - there's the denoument:

Marlo sees ring around Michael's neck, asks where he got it.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 October 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't seen those eps yet.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I thought you saw the final ep?

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 October 2006 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

I quit watching when I realized I'd missed part of the story. I couldn't bear to watch out of order.

milo z (mlp), Friday, 27 October 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

Ah. I did the same when I realized instead of 10 and 11 I had 11 and 11.

It's the lazy and immoral way to become super hip. (Austin, Still), Friday, 27 October 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

Dirty cop takes ring from Omar at arrest.

AGh I missed that completely! The crucial link.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Saturday, 28 October 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

plus there's that great shot later on of asshole copy driving around (in uniform!) wearing the ring, glancing down to admire it.

am0n (am0n), Saturday, 28 October 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently, the "white" storyline of season 2 is being cut out of the BET airings.

Oilyrags, Friday, 13 April 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

aaand i can finally read this thread. but all i want to say is ha at the deadwood reference in the last ep ("he called him cocksucker!")

W i l l, Monday, 16 April 2007 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

This show really doesn't get enough credit for how hilarious it is. My personal fave laugh line is probably "I can't WAIT to go to jail."

Oilyrags, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

i always found myself laughing every episode.

cutty, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

??????? the "white" storyline is like 3/4 of the season!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

Stringer Bell is Britishes?!?

Jordan, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

totally british, with a posh accent

cutty, Monday, 16 April 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

one of the best scenes in season 4 was when bunny colvin was first interviewing older kids for the research project with white dude and the kid they bring in there just goes totally fucking nuts

WHAT ARE YOU WRITING IN YOUR BOOK CHUCK E CHEESE MOTHERFUCKER?

cutty, Monday, 16 April 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

I have just finished watching S4! <late to party>

Took a while to grab me but the last 3 episodes were amazing. Great to see the Greek back. I know y'all finished talking about this a year ago but I couldn't keep it to myself...

Meg Busset, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:34 (seventeen years ago)

five years pass...

6 years pass...

Just wrapped up Season 4. Gotta say, I still miss Stringer & Co.

The Bubbles Depo storyline just annoys the hell out of me. And the final card dealt to his hand to cap off the season was telegraphed a mile away as soon as he got the idea from the stable guys.

The big question everyone asked about Breaking Bad's ricin was What's going to happen to it? Is Walt Jr or the baby going to eat it? And without spoiling anything for anyone who might not wrap up Season 4 of Breaking Bad untll 2018, I think those writers did an acceptable job of answering that question instead of this tragic sitcom device.

I love this show, but maybe it was too hyped up for me. I don't get how talk can go around about BB or Sopranos, and it's fine for someone to walk into the room, simply say "The Wire" and drop the mic. I'll check out Season 5 to hear the new theme song, but I'm not looking forward to it since I hear it's the weakest season.

Positive notes, there are some fucking VOICES on this show. Slim, Frank... hell, even Andre.... I don't know much about Baltimore politics beyond what I've read on Wikipedia, but I did have a good a-ha moment when the Generation X African-American woman showed up as Council President.... Man, I can't stand Herc. "Where's my camera? Where's my camera?" Fuzzy Dunlop, get the fuck outta here.... Couldn't see Marlo as the future king in Season 3, but now I can. Dude does have some cat eyes... And Chris looks like a Jim Jaramusch character come to life. I'd watch a whole show of just him looking at shit.
