Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I can't get it to work. It's just bringing up a google map.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

but what is it centred on?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

The monitor of his computer

It started at Dayton, Ohio.

When I searched, found and submitted my London location - it said this:

Thank you for the feedback.

We'll have our team look at the data and update the database accordingly.

It centred on my flat, just like that.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

it works based on wi-fi signals around you, not gps, so the more built up area you're living in, the better. good to see it worked for at least one person, I am probably including it in a piece I'm writing but I don't have wi-fi so wanted to check it out.

fucking machines

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

I dont understand what this does. It found the area around me like that, pretty accurate. But what's it basing it on? How's it know where I am? *weirded out*

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

it knows you're afraid!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

i'm on EVDO, with wifi on my powerbook turned off, and it won't work for me.

Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and that you can see some wireless networks around you.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 9 November 2006 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

anyone else want to try?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah - I'm curious to know if it reads your i.p address rather than/as well as detects wireless networks.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

gareth's "macclesfield" suggests it does...

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah - I'm curious to know if it reads your i.p address rather than/as well as detects wireless networks.

my experience would suggest not. EVDO is a network connection, but not via a 802.x card. so I had an IP address, but it didn't see it, which I was really hoping it would.
