The skull and crossbones was a symbol created by the aliens trapped on this planet which blatantly expresses what extremes they are willing to go to in order to rebuild their technology and leave this place. It says clearly, "we are no friend of humanity, fuck humanity." It has been a long process of mining the earth's resources in order to rebuild the technology they lost when our planet was flooded. In order to obtain enough control to exploit our resources, total domination has been necessary. They don't care if they destroy our world (global warming) because they're planning to get the fuck off the planet pretty soon anyway. They might even blow our asses up from space, since we've been a hard bunch to control and pretty much refused to be their slaves from the very beginning.
