If you had to choose a Beatles song to do a cover of, which would it be?

toraneko, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mine would be "Oh Darling".

Even when I was very young this song sounded sincere to me. I really like the way the guitar sounds all disjointed (broken chords etc) it kind of reinforces the whole idea of a relationship breaking up. Also, I can sing it and mean it even when I'm not going through emotional crap.

toraneko, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

toraneko - what are you doing up so late....i told you, if yr not in bed by 12, go home...

as to the question, most likely the ballad of john and yoko, in spanish with a tango beat...

goeff, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Last night i heard "Across The Universe" on the radio and it made me a) feel STRONG and b) cry, so that one, for those reasons. The only Beatles song i have managed to cover in reality was "Revolution #9", which we used to do acapella.

MJ Hibbett, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"If you had to choose a Beatles song to do a cover of, which would it be?"
Is this some sort of gun-to-the-head scenario? If so, I think I'd rather have the bullet.

DG, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

taste of honey as per sugarpuffs rewording

mark s, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Happiness is a warm gun or I'm Down

Samantha, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hello Geoff, what are you doing home so early on a Friday night? Oh shite, I didn't realise it was almost 3. I am off to bed!

DG - this is a gun to the head thing. Please choose.

toraneko, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MJ, I love that song too - but I don't like the Om bit, I feel silly doing that. I also love Norwegian Wood but only the up until it changes key & tempo. You've Got to Hide Your Love away would probably be my second choice as a potential cover.

toraneko, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I had my acoustic guitar and vainly tried to learn it I got a book of ROCK CHORDS and the first song in lesson 1 was "Rain" by The Beatles which I have to this day never heard. So that one, because I could. Maybe. And it would be interesting to see how lame my sight- reading of the vocal melody would be.

Tom, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But how would this situation come about? Would I have been kidnapped by a psychotic Paul McCartney?

DG, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh shite, I don't know. Why are you being difficult? Just imagine someone asking you to choose a Beatles song to cover for some CD that's going to bring you fame and fortune. And don't say that you don't want fame and fortune, you can be anonymous if you want and not claim your fortune. Oh bugger, then you have no motive to be on the cd.

toraneko, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Yellow Submarine', no question. I fookin LOVE The Beatles. Some might think this song is a bit psychedelic but never let it be said I don't like some 'challenging' music in my life.

my arse, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not being difficult.

DG, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Photograph - I'd probably keep that silly keyboard in my version too!

Jeff W, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The answer is to do one that all their fans love DG and completely fuck it up. I'm not sure how though, they're all kind of fucked already. ZING!

Ronan, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've been trying like hell to play a decent version of "Blackbird". The guitar playing part is coming along all right, but the vocals - egads. Someone slip that boy a throat lozenge, please?

David Raposa, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Flying," of course.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would do an IDM version of Paperback Writer.

jel, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gimme Shelter. Oh wait a minute, that's a Stones song. Sorry wrong thread.

Hank, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is In My Life the one with the weirdo instrumental in the middle. That, cuz it's shite.

Graham, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"It's All Too Much", easily.

Brian MacDonald, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've done a few Beatles covers with friends. I have somewhere amongst my tapes my friend Scott and I doing (for the most part) a fairly okay version of "Please Please Me," which I think is a lot more complicated a song to play/sing than it sounds. With some other friends, we tried "You Won't See Me", but it came out pretty awful, especially the vocals.

Anyway, the one I'd most like to do one day is "I've Got a Feeling", but there's no way I could sing the McCartney vocal, which is the best feature of the song.

Joe, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I once coevered"Gettingbetter". I can email it to any interested parties

mike hanle y, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Brian stole my answer.

dan, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Either "Lady Madonna" or "Paperback Writer."

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Either If I Fell (so I could make a mistake in the harmonies like Paul) or Across The Universe.

Damian, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would choose Starting Over.

Gale, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I'm So Tired"

Arthur, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

:"Revolution 9", no doubt.

in real life tho - did a tribute tape for John on his 50th birthday - 1992 i guess it was - it was me & celia & haydn jones - we did "Birthday", "Ballad of J. & Y.", Yoko's "Remember Love", "God", &, umm, "Imagine". i wish i had the capability to put it on MP3, i wanna make all you people listen to it. especially you starsky.

duane, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

duane, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

THE bEATOS, WE CALLED EM.

DUANE, Saturday, 9 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, 'Rain' invented indie music so if you've not heard it that would perhaps explain why you don't get said genre. No, it wouldn't really, would it?

I might cover 'Good Morning Good Morning' and I'd do a better job than the Triffids.

N., Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Setting Sun...........................oh wait.

Ronan, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dear Prudence. In a very very grungy way. Distortion pedal to the max just before the last "won't you come out to play?" Luvly.

Sam, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

mmmmm distortion pedal....

katie, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'martha my dear'

richard john gillanders, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Why Don't We Do It In The Road"

Andrew L, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can I do "Mister Moonlight"?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Real Love." Just so I could hear it without Jeff Lynne.

Douglas, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This is a true story. I was in high school and performing at a talent show. I knew how to pick out a tune on a harmonica, slightly. I had a book of Beatles Greatest Hits arranged for harmonica. I picked out tune after tune, and played "name that beatles tune that I'm playing on the harmonica" with the audience. This went on maybe ten agonizing minutes until I was forcefully ejected from stage. I'm quite proud of that.
