I have found the least extreme, mildest-mannered energy drink. IT'S this lemon-flavored deal that is supposedly based on some Aussie drink called Polo. It seems to appear only intermittently at groceries/convenience stores. I cannot depend on its presence.

Is Polo an energy drink? Is Coolah available on your continent? Can anyone compare the two? Why is it so scarce?

The whole side of the can talks about how Aussies like to hunt cassowaries with their boomerangs and then enjoy a delicious Polo with the boys. Weird marketing.

Hahaha WAAAHT?

I'm sure the aboriginal elders were you know, out hunting 400 years ago and pulling cans of soft drink out of ponds and whatnot.
(arent cassowaries long extinct?)

Marketing execs be on shrooms.

So WTF is Polo then?

Abbott (Abbott), Sunday, 12 November 2006 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

No idea! Apart from being mints, and a horsey game. Not a drink tho! :)

Apparently peopple get to make up whatever shit they want about your country. WTF?!?!?

Abbott (Abbott), Sunday, 12 November 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

Coolah actually tastes like Japanese drink C.C. Lemon, but with more caffiends.

Polo has to be something real because they attribute some kind of copyright courtesy to it on the side of the can.

Not SOLO, surely?

wordy rappaport (EstieButtez1), Sunday, 12 November 2006 03:26 (nineteen years ago)

Solo is the traditional drink of the extreme sports loving white man, LOW ON FIZZ SO YOU CAN SLAM IT DOWN FAST!

wordy rappaport (EstieButtez1), Sunday, 12 November 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

Indeed, it is Solo!

Cadbury Schweppes now makes an energy drink in the US called Coolah Energy that refers to the Australian Solo as its inspiration. It uses the tagline "Energy from Down Under".

I'm glad that mystery is solved.

OH. Well now it makes sense!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 12 November 2006 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

Even tho Solo isnt an energy drink, heh.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 12 November 2006 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

Haha I love that Wiki entry:

When he enjoyed his can of Solo at the end of the ad, "the man from Solo" would drink it in such a way that he'd spill it all over his chest. He has since become proverbial in Australia for spilling drinks on one's self.

... it is??

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 12 November 2006 04:23 (nineteen years ago)

it's light on the fizz so you can slam it down innit
