i got to the snowman (having mrs "engineer" fiendish looking over my shoulder got me there slightly quicker than i might have managed myself) but gave up in a panic that i'd waste the rest of the day doing this/not get any further and spend the rest of the day hating myself for it.

hmm i don't understand this then. i got as far as the snowman. everything was beautifully balanced , no melting snowmen or anything, then nothing happened for five minutes. it just floated merrily. then i closed the browser.

the rock changes colour - when orange i figure this means it's hot enough to melt the snowman if placed near it (didn't check this for sure). once the snowman melts you have a spare hole left for the last item (once you figure out where to put the snowman's hat).

went back to it. melted the snowman. worked out what to do with the hat. tooled about randomly moving stuff. got bored; googled for a solution; found this and decided that life is far, far too short to worry about computer-generated physics on a sunday afternoon.

also got enormously pissed off with fruitlessly chasing hangers around with the pointer and constantly letting water out of the bucket when i was trying to pick things up!

i remember now why i stopped playing computer games: my capacity for getting really pissed off, really quickly, far outweighs any desire to see what happens :)

I was just able to shoo the birds, nothing more. Useful if you only need a minor weight-loss.

The hat solution is weird. Basically, if you keep your eyes open you will see a "mirage" of the snowman face appear which makes it pretty obvious where to put the hat. But, you won't get to that point until everything else is balanced. Same goes for the melting snowman. It only melts when everything else is balanced, I think.
