Not too many rules on this.

a. Must be alive
b. No ILXOr's (to prevent nasty flame wars developing)

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'll start by nominating

Stephen Fry and Owen Wilson.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

gandhi

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

Who's Stephen Fry?

Owen Wilson seems like a good candidate.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

Ahmed Johnson

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Monday, 13 November 2006 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

i bumped into stephen fry on my lunch hour last week but i didn't recognise him.

who is owen wilson?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

er.. the dalai lama

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

owen wilson is the dude from beach boys innit

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Brian Blessed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, I don't like religious icons.

(xx-post)

I don't know who's Ahmed Johnson either.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if I like Owen Wilson but this could just be noseism.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno what Brian Blessed does, but he has a cool name.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, I mean BRIAN BLESSED.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

He does a lot of SHOUTING.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Who's Stephen Fry? who is owen wilson

This enterprise is doomed to failure.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Find a person that everyone on ILE has heard of

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Surely we're are doomed to failure in a world where the LEx lives, he doesn't know who anybody is. Before we can succeed in this quest we must KILL THE LEX.

Ed (dali), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

He does a lot of SHOUTING.

Okay, I think I like him.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, what about William Shatner? Surely everyone knows who he is, and likes him.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

Russell Brand.

xpost colliding with Stephen Fry, who's 6ft 5, and not recognising him? only if you don't know who he is and all that!

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

Jackie Chan

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

genesis p. orridge

H2-H4 (H2-H4), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

Russell Brand is the silliest suggestion yet. I still think he is a cockfarmer, as I suspect do many other people.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Russell Brand's a fantastic guess. How about Jeffrey Archer and Ian Huntley?

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Monday, 13 November 2006 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

i hate william shatner!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

who is jackie chan?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Who's Russel Brand?

Genesis P. Orridge is some sort of musician, right? I have no positive or negative opinion on him.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

i have asked who brian blessed is before, i'm not sure if anyone answered seriously, but i have forgotten, i don't know who he is either

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

Why do you hate William Shatner, Lex?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/topstory/sports/edwards_eddie880228getty.jpg

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

if you don't know who russell brand is you are lucky indeed

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

i don't like comedians.

anyone even tangentially related to the world of comedy is doomed to failure as i HATE THEM ALL.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Brian Blessed is great, especially as a football pundit (yes, really, UKGTV had him during the world cup, where he just went on about train timetables and the like when the game was a bit crap).

I have no opinions at all on Owen Wilson, but I remain eternally fascinated by his nose, and I don't *dislike* him.

I think UK/US/other bits of the world/whatever mindspace Teh Lex occupies will be the downfall of this thread.

multiple xpost - Lex, you're serious about "who's Jackie Chan?"

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Jane Horrocks

Dan Castellaneta (sp?)

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

OK, lets get down to who we all really like.

Lauren Laverne
Ant and Dec
Jayne Middlemiss
Richard Orford
Beth Orton

This is about them as a person, not necessarily about their art or whatever, right?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

Can we assume that The Lex doesn't actively dislike all the people he's never heard of and they can therefore still be included until someone who's heard of them vetoes them?

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Ahmed Johnson is a boxer inn'e.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Lex, what have you got against comedians?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

I dislike Dan Castellaneta after he started making Homer sound more like Scooby-Doo.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, Lex dislikes Beth Orton doesn't he, the mad fool!

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

Lex, what have you got against comedians?

how dare they try and tell them when to laugh amirite?

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

You're just Lex-baiting now aren't you? (xpost to people naming z-listers)

(also, hello Americans!)

Incidentally, Lex, have you heard of Google? It's terribly helpful for finding out who people are.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

brian blessed is a football commentator then? i don't like him then.

no, i have not heard of jackie chan, is she american?

i kind of like lauren laverne. everyone else on mark's list is a bit meh.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

brian blessed is a football commentator then?

YOUR BRILLIANT MIND IS SADLY INCORRECT.

I will be unhappy about this for the rest of year :(

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

no, i have not heard of jackie chan, is she american?

Okay you're playing at it now.

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Jackie Chan's first album pisses all over 'Boys For Pele' gotta say

2 american 4 u (blueski), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

i don't like comedians because they're not funny! none of them make me laugh! ever! if you are going to be a comedian YOU SHOULD BE FUNNY.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Lex, William Shatner is not a comedian.

Lauren Laverne
Ant and Dec
Jayne Middlemiss
Richard Orford
Beth Orton

I have no idea who these are... Except that Beth Orton sang on some William Orbit record, or am I wrong?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 13 November 2006 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

and i haven't even nominated paris hilton because it'd be unfair to everyone else, she'd walk it surely

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

You're all forgetting one thing: Mary Louise Parker.

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

She's actually David Duke in drag. Veto.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't have anything against Mary Louise Parker, but I don't get her supposed beauty.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'm down with Aung. Havel was vetoed (perhaps jokingly) for his Zappa love.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

don't know aung.

am ambivalent towards MLP.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like Mary Louise Parker because I hated Amy Gardner in the West Wing (see West Wing threads passim)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

Stephen Colbert!

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

Amy Gardner is really more Aaron Sorkin's fault than Mary Louise Parker's, to be fair.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

She's actually David Duke in drag. Veto.

um... explain.

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

there must be someone who doesn't like Colbert (not me though!)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but looking at MLP's face makes me think Amy Gardner and go grrrr, so vetoed.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

As someone said upthread, it would probably be possible to find someone we all dislike. Like is hard impossible.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

Mick Foley is a bad parent and a fucking carny.

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

haha re hawking veto: proof that the occasional crackle between me and shakey is that we are SECRETLY THE SAME PERSON!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

He really did nick my parking space. Bastard.

Everyone loves Maggie Gyllenhaal, don't they?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

You're scaring me.

x-post

Beth S. (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

Stan Lee

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

I find both Gyllenhaal siblings to be terribly unappealing.

I'm w/ rosemary.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

jaymc, seriously, dude, how do you do this stuff?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

That one wasn't that hard. I remembered there was a Maggie Gyllenhaal thread I posted on a while back that got contentious.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

"Stan Lee

-- kingfish prætor (jdsalmo...), November 15th, 2006."

I assume this is a joke.

I like Taye Diggs right now, but only because L O S T isn't on.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Thursday, 16 November 2006 03:41 (eighteen years ago)

This thread is depressing.

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 16 November 2006 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

What's not to like about Johnny Depp?

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 16 November 2006 03:47 (eighteen years ago)

Thread seems to be dying but..Catherine Keener is a good one.

Also jel vetoed Peter Falk on the Columbo tread not this one so I think that's still pretty good.

xyzzzz__ (jdesouza), Thursday, 16 November 2006 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

I did?

But yeah, can't stand Columbo.

There will never be consensus, and that's the way things should always be.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 16 November 2006 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

it looks like Aung is the winner to me.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 16 November 2006 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know him so therefore cannot like him.

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Thursday, 16 November 2006 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

her.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 16 November 2006 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

Nobody's vetoed Kamala yet, Kamala wins, lock thread.

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Thursday, 16 November 2006 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

i wish don knotts was alive so he could win this thread hands down

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

Surely everyone loves Amelie!

you haven't been here long, have you!

wordy rappinghood (roxymuzak), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

Tim Conway?

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

i.e., least funniest act in The Aristocrats? No.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

Not Tim Conway. What about Carol Burnett?

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

Or Lily Tomlin?

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:43 (eighteen years ago)

Andy Richter?

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

ooh.. good one. But maybe vetoed because he left Conan and that was dumm.

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

anyone even tangentially related to the world of comedy is doomed to failure as i HATE THEM ALL.

-- The Lex (alex.macpherso...), November 13th, 2006 10:53 AM. (The Lex) (later)

I think we're losing a lot on this blanket veto...

(also cue lots of Britishers going "who's Andy Richter/Carol Burnett/A N Other American TV show person that doesn't have a show that goes out over here)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

I think Lily Tomlin was vetoed way upthread, Kenan. Don't remember why.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

Presumably for being tangentially related to the world of comedy.

(stop kidding on you haven't memorised this entire thread...)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

(where by "thread", I mean "board")

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

Presumably for being tangentially related to the world of comedy.

That's also dumm. Lily Tomlin is great. You know what's a killer movie? 9 to 5.

aesthetically pleasing, in other words 'fly' (kenan), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

nobody vetoed Lily, unless you count Lex's blanket veto (which I don't think is fair in this case as Lily is not really a comedienne, more of an actress/monologist)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 16 November 2006 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

You want to reason with The Lex about it, fine. I'm still smarting that Brian Blessed is out due to having horrible feet!

(No-one's vetoed Ewan McGregor yet and I heart him due to him having a lovely voice and riding round the world on a motorbike for a laugh and being in Shallow Grave)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 17 November 2006 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

I'm allright with Ewan (Lipstick on Your Collar!!!) but I'd be surprised if someone didn't veto him for his collusion with the execrable Star Wars franchise

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 17 November 2006 00:07 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah. I've never seen ANY Star Wars films, so that can't ruin him for me.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 17 November 2006 00:10 (eighteen years ago)

eight months pass...

I've finally seen that clip of Brian Blessed's horrible feet and it immediately made me think of this thread. I take back everything I said about jaymc.xls upthread :-/
