Actually, 2m isn't very high, is it? I could jump that, if I had a trampoline.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

If everybody in Japan jumped up and down on trampolines simultaneoulsy, that would probably set off an even bigger tsunami.

Don't put ideas in their head.

If it happens at high tide 2m extra could be pretty bad,

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

It'd be pretty bad at any time if you're only 1m tall.

not if they're on trampolines because most of the kinetic energy they exert would be absorbed by the trampoline, and reexerted back onto the people of japan rather than initiating some tsunami.. unless they all jump up and down one at a time, in order, from left to right, and that "japanese tsunami" is like a far-east version of "mexican wave" involving trampolines.

ARGH! My parents live in Japan. I rrrrreally don't like news like this even though they are probably safe in Tokyo. I have become used to the numerous tales of earthquakes but this...

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

They're saying it was only about 40cm in the end.

I'm not saying this to just to freak you out, but earthquakes are a much bigger threat to Tokyo than tsunamis. I live in Nagoya, and we're also well overdue for the "big one".

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I know. Those earthquakes worry me. :-(

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

As someone in the office just said, you can always rely on the Japanese to make things smaller.
