Those 'motion' waterfall backlit pictures that give me a Pavlovian urge for Pad Thai: C/D?

They usually have recorded bird sounds, too. What are these things called, anyway?

I'd really like to make one of the circulatory system...does anyone have idea how to make one?

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 16 November 2006 02:47 (nineteen years ago)

they're way more expensive than they should be.

but making one of the circulatory system is a beautiful idea, Ab.

The little place in our podunk mall that sells them is called WANG DYNASTY.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 16 November 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

it looks like this place is having a crazy sale on them.

"This picture is amazing. Relax while watching and listening to the water.
The water movement is very realistic. The sound is amazingly relaxing.
Each and every one of these beautiful moving pictures come with:

1- Volume control nob to adjust sound.

2- Light switch so you can have it on or off. (It looks beautiful either way)

3- Beautiful beveled edge glass mirror frame

4- Power cord with switch (no batteries required)"

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 16 November 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

oh i would get one of these - i just can't decide which one - straight-up waterfall, palm tree over water, relaxing tiger??
(sometimes it's really really good to not live in the US and have US dollars and not have to worry about customs and exchange rates. and also good to be in current state of "budget consciousness." because otherwise i would own all kinds of dubious stuff. all kinds.)

These pictures were, apparently, the inspiration for the "marching ants" that mark selections in graphics programs.

Also known as 'stock prop used to denote presence of Indian family in all British TV ever'.

I hate these things.

(The original waterfall thing, I mean)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 November 2006 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

I see these in the shopping mall when I walk through it, there's a couple of stalls that sell them. They're kind of fascinatingly horrible, I certainly wouldn't want one on the wall in my house. Dud, I suppose.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 16 November 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

I was in Bahrain airport a few weeks ago and they were selling a moving, singing mounted stag's head, complete with life sized antlers. It was one of the most compellingly horrendous things I'd ever seen.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 16 November 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

Did you buy it?

I saw one of those in Mickley Garden Centre, County Durham. It was singing christmas carols, and telling jokes. It was pretty horrid t watch, yes.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

i bought one in chinatown and put it in my bathroom and left it on for like 3 days and then it stared to smell like burning so i turned it off.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

Those things are so very Wallpaper* launch era it's untrue: was asked to buy one in Tang Freres in Paris for Nick back then, when on a trip.

MDC, I've never had a South Asian vibe from these, but Pacific Rim Asian yes deffo. However there's something midwestern tavern about them as they also look like Grain Belt signs from the 70s.

They're all over the place in Vietnam. They're very fond of their kitsch in that country.

Ah, no wonder they're all over Minnesota then, and no wonder the Viets have integrated as well as they have! Beer and imperial spring rolls all 'round...

Looks like Nature Spirit Inc. (!) is making custom pics. Look what other customers have ordered:

Pool pugs...with bird sounds!

I would love to have a living room with 12 of these pics and those little resin 'zen' waterfalls and baby zen rock gardens and a couple of plastic bonzai trees and a few customized Thomas Kinkade prints and one of those garden gazing globes. No Billy Bass, though, I'm trying to keep it spiritual here.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 16 November 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

these things are like the IRL version of animated/ glitter GIFs, arent they?

ten months pass...

Also known as 'stock prop used to denote presence of Indian family in all British TV ever'.

Haha what?

I especially like this sentence as, never having seen such a TV show, I'm imagining some Cockney slob family and one day they see one of those on their wall, cluing them to the secret that an Indian family has moved into their house.
