i guess the question was, where you talking to someone when you dropped the phone into the can?
― Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
I mistakenly walked into the sea with my phone in my pocket. Now all the buttons do strange things and it sometimes turns itself off.
Is there any chance it could get better? I'm guessing the salt crystals forming as we speak on the circuit boards aren't helping. Would putting it in normal water help in any way?

put it in the freezer

Remove the battery and dry it out.

SALT WATER TIP: If exposure was salt water; you may need to clean the salt water with water. (salt water is far more dangerous). This may actually mean washing the circuit board very briefly under filtered water, in order to save its life from salt water (ocean water) before immediately drying it out. This is a last resort, but NECESSARY if your electronic device was immersed in salt water (unless you have access to special electronics cleaning fluid solutions that can get rid of salt water on short notice. Sometimes filtered water is the only thing you have access to, for cleaning salt water ASAP) (part of a longer post here: http://www.phoneforums.org/phones/594-dropping-your-cell-phone-water.html )

cool thanks

i think if you can, you're supposed to take it apart and clean all the bits with isopropyl (sp?) wipes (like the kind pedantic junkies swab their veins with). i saw a guy do this once, and it seemed to work.

"I Mistakenly Walked Into The Sea" by the Pedantic Junkies sounds like a hit to me.
― marmotwolof, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)
well it's still not working properly, it got better than it was but now it just turns itself off randomly
― Ste, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)
Is "'I mistakenly walked into the sea' by the pedantic junkies sounds like a hit to me" not a belle and sebastian lyric?

yes, it sounds a bit like when recently insured people fall off a cliff and then their fiance gets charged with murder.

i haven't yet heard of anyone dropping their iphone in a toilet. are they just more careful with them?

I have personally dealt with 2 diff. friends who have 'dumped' their iPhones in the toilet. I think most people are just too embarrassed to own up to doing it.
