Musical sampling is the perfect example of copyright's flexibility in fusing the ever-changing worlds of art, commerce and technology.

Tell that to Bridgeport! http://www.slate.com/id/2153961

Did you hear that Mick Hucknall has been charged with bestiality with a rabbit?

He was caught holding back the ears and the bunny was too tight to mention.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 23 November 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

zaichishka is an anagrame of mark grout.

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 23 November 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

I can't read the article because the picture at the top makes me close the window before I get a chance.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Thursday, 23 November 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

has mick's face been properly copyrighted, that picture would never have been there and the article's idea could have flown more freely

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 23 November 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

Don't talk about Mick Hucknall 'til you've heard the best of the Frantic Elevators yeah! Don't even TALK!

wordy rappaport (EstieButtez1), Thursday, 23 November 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

For real question: are the Frantic Elevators any good? I've never heard them.

J (Jay), Thursday, 23 November 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

Copyright extension is partly about equality for performers, with other creators and with those in the US and elsewhere. It is also about maintaining the cultural value of works by controlling their exploitation.

I get so angry reading this gaaahhhashdfaiosdaeenagnoareornrgnjreoai

Kinda sorta commies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 November 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

The internet is like a record shop with infinite* shelves and and a big sign saying SHOPLIFTERS WILL NOT BE PROSECUTED> INDEED, WE THINK THEY ARE PRETTY COOL.

I liek the way that Mick is suggesting that copyright creates value out of something which is intrinsically worthless, namely Simply Red's back-catalogue.

* Of course it is not infinite and never will be, where is all this infinite music / storage space going to come from. STOP GETTING INFINITY WRONG.
