four weeks pass...
Christ. The post above was made about three hours before I packed the server into its box for posting. This is the first one since it's back online.

Ah well. We're here now. Things may be unstable for a bit. Please go easy.

mahalo 4 ur kokua (grady), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm, when will the search function be changed from ilx.wh3rd.net? (Tried to find the full 'Children of Men' thread now, no dice.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

ilx.wh3rd.net is the right address -- it's just been so long that we've slid off the google index :(

stet (stet), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Come Anticipate 'Children of Men' with me

Someone update Wikipedia!!

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

The new search page uses Google only, but the pull-down menu search still gets into the old search engine. Is that an oversight?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

re. searching threads, de-indexed threads won't be searchable, so you'll need to look them up by date or category.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

The best part is being able to set the time zone. I never did get the hang of subtracting six hours.

Joe Isuzu's Petals (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Thing is, dude was screwing his mum, radical Islam, crazy customer :-D :-D :-D :-D, all punk is awful even though I haven't heard Wire yet, Gomez, grandiloquence, THIS IS THE SOUND OF RADIOHEAD BEING BEATEN AT A GAME THEY WEREN'T EVEN BOLD ENOUGH TO PLAY, it's good to be back...

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

(or do the pull-down menu thing because that works too)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

I can't edit my settings!

"Name lookup failed"

:-(

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just glad "unread" is back, I was so sick of hitting "end" or "pg dwn" all the time. Yay for unread!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:06 (eighteen years ago)

er, it never went away for me ... you sure that wasn't just your settings?

anyway. i'm off to bed. i look forward to waking up and the trucker hat guy thread being top of new answers.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm most excited at the difference in hits between this and this.

...especially since the front page of ilx says there are only 130,918 threads. Surely the remaining 69,000 or so can't all be non-thread ilx pages? Perhaps Google has written some for us.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

The front page is right... Google doesn't get accurate results, no idea how it does/doesn't do it, though. Hence the about 199,000. Bit weird being 40% out, though.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

(anyway, the point is, it now looks like having a proper Google search tie-up means every thread is indexed, except the ones we've specifically told it not to, meaning full Google search power is unleashed on the archives of ILX hurrah, unlike before when it was half of them at best)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

Which will go away, as soon as we go to ILX2!

But it'll come back soon, I suppose.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

so wait, this still isn't the NEW NEW ILX? this is old ILX on a new server? i'm confused.

mahalo 4 ur kokua (grady), Thursday, 4 January 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, we really need to properly test new ILX first. And migrate data from here to there, etc. So this is old ILX.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh dear, my love affair with Google's search is short-lived.

I search for britney cheese kraft - no Cheese Slices thread.

I search for britney kraft cheese - yes Cheese Slices thread!

??

This isn't a phrase search! And "britney" "kraft" "cheese" don't appear in that order in the thread anyway. What's going on?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

And actually install it for that matter. Which I'm doing now, but it'll take a bit of time.

x-post

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

hiccup.

mahalo 4 ur kokua (grady), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like we need to test old ILX too...

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Although, that wasn't ILX, that was the whole computer.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:12 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway. Well done, boys. I would remotely wank you off, if I could.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

Haha...

Outage was our friend from the ISP doing some stuff with the computer. I suspect there may be more until it all settles down.

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:24 (eighteen years ago)

Britney is a good word for any CHEESE search, fuck a Boolean operator. I wish I'd have thought of it sooner. Sooner!

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 4 January 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 4 January 2007 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

Dear ilx, I forgive you for your past crimes. Please do the same for me. kthxbye.

alext (alext), Thursday, 4 January 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Big high fives to Keith and Stet and everyone else for sorting all this out.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 4 January 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

Alex... "kthxbye"?

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

I've barely been online over the holiday period. Wow, guys.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

Keith -- surely with your years of interweb skillz you know this lame email signoff?

alext (alext), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Yes! I'm just watching you use it!

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

Drink soon?

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

All hail henfap (& Keith and Stet)! Sorry about the possible jinx on that other thread. It was all in fun. (Almost typed in "fin", which would have been worrying.)

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 4 January 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Keith -- yes. Just been speaking to Simon. He's free on Sunday, which obviously is in NO WAY SIGNIFICANT for any of us, except you, since you're back to work on the Monday... we're wondering about meeting up in Edinburgh (softs for me) late afternoon / early evening. I said I thought you might be up to it.

alext (alext), Thursday, 4 January 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'm curious, why HenFap? Why not ChickenBear?

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)
