Okay, who's up for this?

I think Rotten is the best place for us to keep track of your picks, so in order to be eligible for this, you must register there and select from their database and then post a link to your picks in this thread (RSS feed not needed).

(Please post an actual link and don't just copy and paste. It will make it easier for me to keep track down the road.)

However, we WILL be doing our usual point system, i.e. 100 minus age-at-death. For instance, James Brown died at 73, so if you had him, you get 27 points. Gerald Ford = 7 points. Etc.

Keep in mind: Rotten allows you to change your picks up until Jan. 30. Since you can't pick someone who's already died this year (like Tillie Olsen, RIP) and expect to score, I'm totally fine with this allowance. After Jan. 30, everything will be locked in.

Now go research some old or ailing celebrities.

Jeff. (Jeff), Friday, 12 January 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

You can't pick Wilson now, knowing that he's already dead (Rotten won't let you) -- but anyone who's picked him so far gets the points.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 January 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'm pissed off about Wilson tbh, because me not picking him is nothing other than shoddy research.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 12 January 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't post to this thread until today because it was possible to pick Wilson yesterday at Rotten for several hours after his death was announced on his blog.* Did anybody else think of that and add him?

*Also because it would have been a little ghoulish, though I think if anyone would see the entertainment value of playing a deadpool league, it would be RAW.

do i have to draw you a diaphragm (Rock Hardy), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a thread about his death? I admit I have no idea who he is.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

Never mind, found it. Seems like a good dude.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 January 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

I know a guy on a different board who put in Miep Gies on his list. No room for sentimentality in the deadpool!

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

She's not available at Rotten! Oh well, she'd only be worth two points anyway.

do i have to draw you a diaphragm (Rock Hardy), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

Nothing pissed me off more last year than John Tenta not being available to pick on Rotten. I WOULD HAVE WON IF HE HAD.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

You can suggest names to Rotten if they're not on there.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 January 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Rotten's rules:

XI. INSIDER TRADING

Making choices based on insider knowledge is LEGAL in this game. If you know something, use it to your advantage. Celebrities with known terminal illnesses, fatwas hanging over their heads, Mafia contracts, etc. are allowed.

Does that include picking someone who's died before they update the site?

do i have to draw you a diaphragm (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

Art Buchwald?

You're on the honor system for that.

Maria :D (Maria D.), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

I should mention, Maria, that the way we're playing, you get more points for the younger they are. The formula is 100 minus the age, so if Hoffman or Lane finally kick it this year, you don't get any points.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

jaymc, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

Improving health for Tim Johnson and Roddy Piper, worsening health for Ronnie Biggs... it's swings and roundabouts with my team currently.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:15 (seventeen years ago)

So when do we get the points for Castro?

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 6 September 2007 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

I don't know, I was just thinking about that last night. Actually, I was giggling at the thought of Cuba never actually announcing his death and wondering how long it would be before the possibility of him being alive became way too absurd to believe.

jaymc, Thursday, 6 September 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

Usual Dead Pool rules state that someone isn't "dead" until Reuters or AP put out an obit.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 6 September 2007 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

What if it's embargoed?

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 6 September 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

Can we change it to Reuters, AP, or Perez Hilton?
