Cat Vomit

Our cat vomited this morning right next to the liquor cabinet. She woke me up even. Has she been drinking? Also: if cats could drink, what sort of drink would they drink?

Please share your cat vomit stories on this thread. THX!

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Note that Valley up there did not clean up said cat vomit. *I* cleaned up said cat vomit. Some of which got into the crack between wooden floor boards.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

I was going to put on my jacket this morning, and found that one of that cats vommed all over it. Thanks, cats.

When I go away for a few days, the cats strategically vomit in places that they shouldn't: kitchen counters (I don't let them up there), knitting projects, the bed, etc. Little fuckers.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

if cats could drink, what sort of drink would they drink?

i thought the collective judgement was that it was chamomile tea

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

One of our cats is an inveterate puker, so cat vomit is just a way of life for us. There is little worse than stepping barefoot into a cold pile of cat vomit, except for the time that she puked all over the couch. Lucky for us, one of our other cats usually eats it, which is one of those things I prefer not to dwell upon but just accept as a blessing in disgusting disguise.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

i would imagine cat's would drink white russians.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

I've been with this cat & lovely, wonderful woman combo for 4 1/2 years now and just recently, for the first time, stepped barefoot in fresh vom.

VALLEY OF BLIZZARDZ (Mr.Que), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

We have hardwood floors on the main floor of our house and carpet downstairs. Guess which place the cats always decide to yak.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

i'm getting a new kitty this weekend, yay!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

My cat Biff would drink cosmos because I think he is gay.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

Sam! Yay! New cat! Do you have a name picked out?

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

I already told this story to some of you elsewhere! But anyway the first time I met little baby Dr. Ben at the animal shelter, he got so excited to be played with and petted and picked up that he VOMITED. He was polite though, he went over to his little litter box and did it there, and buried it.

Unlike Mr. Kitty who just vomits all over the house like some kind of bulimic.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

We'd always find it crusted up in the carpet or rug; sometimes with hairballs, sometimes without, but always gross.

If cats could drink, they'd drink martinis made with really expensive top-shelf vodka. Extra dry.

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

Congrats on new kitty-to-be, Sam!

My cats drink only water, but they prefer the water left in the bathtub after someone has had a shower to what is in their bowl. Also, they lick the windows during the winter if there is condensation or frost.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

There's no such thing as a vodka martini, but they would undoubtedly drink martinis.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

So far I think the White Russians are closest to OTM, b/c of the milk?

Also, wouldn't it be hysterical to watch a cat stick it's own paw down it's throat and then vomit or am I a sick freak?

Also, band name: The Bulimic Cats?

VALLEY OF BLIZZARDZ (Mr.Que), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

I have a name in mind although I want to wait until I meet the kitty.

tonight I'm going litter box shopping, oh the exciting life I lead.

(damn I wish I had a digital version of my old kitty licking the top of a Shiner bottle.)

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Michael, gin is very terrible.

My cats won't drink alcohol, I have tried many times but they are not interested. We have a friend who force-fed a kitty a shot of vodka once. Cat acted predictably retarded and then passed out, apparently.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

Ahaha, my friend Liz's cat, Medea, used to tip over glasses of Scotch if you weren't looking. Lush.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

growing up we had kitty's who were very interested in pint glasses full of beer.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

My sister's cat, Shmoo, likes to drink coffee. A LOT of coffee. My mom ended up giving up on the battle and buying very wide brimmed coffee mugs so the cat's enormous head would stop getting tragically stuck into the narrow coffee mugs, resulting in thrashing and screaming and coffee-face kitty.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Our youngest would probably be a teetotaler - definitely the chamomile tea type. Our fat, sad sack middle cat would surely drink whiskey. I can see him moping over his booze at a bar like a brilliant but unappreciated alcoholic author. Our oldest, the puker, would definitely drink beer.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/7/7312881_e04182ae92.jpg

See?

xpost - LOL at buying coffee mugs large enough to accommodate a cat's face. And the fact that it sounds like a totally reasonable solution to me.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

I was cleaning up dry crusty cat vom from under the table this morning. Thank you cattus vomitus what prefers to sleep in the most uncomfortable places e.g. draped strategically over the rungs of dining room chairs. We bought the lovely malt guck at the pet shop last night, which the non-vom cat will eat straight from the tube while vom cat looks aghast. No matter what the label says, do not apply this sticky gooey brown elixir to paws! Squirt onto the pelt near the flank so it can't be shaken off dramatically all over the nice cream painted walls.

These cats hide when we drink wine, so probably not that.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

Rabbit Rabbit, your puker looks like our puker. Also, still LOL-ing at "coffee face kitty"

VALLEY OF BLIZZARDZ (Mr.Que), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

We just feed our three cats dry food, and I thought I'd give them a treat of canned food one day. Gave them about a tablespoon each and they'd all horped it up within a few minutes. Bad food or unacclimated stomachs? Anyway, it's back to dry for them, though I did give them a few slivers of salmon the other night when I was slicing the gravlax I'd made.

Joe Isuzu's Petals (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

I used to wet my finger in wine and put it on the snout of my cat, Diavolo, who would lick it off. I sometimes did this repeatedly and he never got mad or got off of my lap.

Michael, gin is very terrible.

A chacun son goût, but apart from being a martini-ist, I don't see the necessity of vermouth in a good, chilled vodka.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a pukey cat. Mine pukes almost every day. Maybe he just eats too much, but he definitely has a sensitive stomach (any milk or human food = 100% chance of vomit). I only get mad when he does it on the bed or on the couch.

My mom said maybe try some fancy cat food, Royal Canin I think.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

Well, well:

Certain cats are naturally more sensitive...

Oral and dental disorders occur in more than 70% of cats.*

1 cat out of 5 is regularly subject to vomiting.*

10% of owners cite digestive problems as a concern.*

Many cats are fussy and refuse to eat a healthy, balanced diet.
* Sources: Internal Royal Canin and FACCO - SOFRES Survey

So 20% of cats puke all the time but only half of their owners are concerned about it.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

Off topic, but I don't see the need for ANYTHING in a good, chilled vodka except some ice and a squeeze of lime. And about a pack and a half of Dunhills.

Also, you people like your cats way too much. Pet that vomits in my house = out.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

My late cat, Margot, was a prodigious puker and the sounds she sometimes made were, well, gut wrenching.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

We have tried that Michael, which is possibly why they hide. They are philistines, and well, more for us!

They have a fancy water fountain, but prefer water from the plant saucers.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

A chacun son goût, but apart from being a martini-ist, I don't see the necessity of vermouth in a good, chilled vodka.

This is 100% true but I think a "vodka martini" is basically a colloquialism for "straight vodka in a martini glass sometimes with an olive." So, you are of course correct in a sense but still, gin.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

Gin is divine, you blasphemous savage!!

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

Also, you people like your cats way too much. Pet that vomits in my house = out.

would you also boot a baby?

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

And about a pack and a half of Dunhills

i went out to lunch with n0rah on friday and after we were done with our meal and drinks i walked next door to a cigar shops for a pack of smokes. the only cigarettes they had were dunhills or american spirits. wtf?

xpost- gin is a gift sent directly from some biblical entity. i'm just not sure from which side of heaven it comes is all.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

I just don't like gin, it smells funny.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, we used to have to pill a considerably less than thrilled Margot on a daily basis with Pepcid. The vet never did find out exactly what was wrong with her.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

Cats, liquor, cigarettes, vomit...

All this is missing to be an average M White bar conversation is a mention of cleavage and some muttered French double entendres.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

the only cigarettes they had were dunhills or american spirits. wtf?

but those are the best ones.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

Michael, we can try to combine this and the Angelina Jolie thread and perhaps your wish will be granted?

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

american spirits blow. you might as well be smoking lawn clippings and bark mulch.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

Have you a favorite gin? We are venturing out from Bombay Sapphire and would appreciate suggestions. Plymouth was our most recent "new" one.

Jaq (Jaq), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

i'm still a tanqueray man, there's always a bottle in the house.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

While it's not my favorite, I find Boodle's Gin to be quite enjoyable. And, it's also fun to say.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

Ms Miz, I think I am just not a cat person. I wouldn't ACTUALLY get rid of a cat for getting sick once in a while (ie being normal!) but they aren't like people or friends to me, just animals that live in my house on my sufferance and sometimes make good footwarmers. I am anti-babying pets -- an unpopular opinion, I realize.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

american spirits blow. you might as well be smoking lawn clippings and bark mulch. OTM, though cigarette taste is very subjective.

Jaq, I prefer Bombay to Bombay Sapphire. BS is too 'hot' for me. I don't, as a rule, drink that many gibsons or martinis but that's still my favorite for those. For g&t's I like Gordon's but that's really just nostalgia for adolescence. Tanqueray is good.

Laurel, where would you ditch these disobliging animals?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

I agree on the American Spirits front, they are missing the point of smoking a cigarette, to me.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

American Spirits take too long to smoke. Sometimes you just want to be done already.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

OTM!

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

Michael, the question has never come up. I do not have cats for a reason.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

the draw is too tight on american spirits. the damn lack of chemical igniters is retarded. i mean, you're still breathing smoke! INTO YOUR LUNGS!!! i won't care if i get an organic or man-made tumor.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I have never had a cat in the CITY for a reason. That reason is that when cats throw up in the house, I throw them outside for a few hours.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

I have a pair of blue suede shoes. Our bulimic cat vomited on them shortly after we got her.

We somehow never became close.

Soukesian (Soukesian), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

My cat Gertrude likes to hide things in my shoes (twist ties, etc.). Happily, vomit is not one of them.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

I have a pair of blue suede shoes.

and you blame the cat?

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

We have a cat with stomach cancer, we've pretty much given up cleaning the puke off the carpet at this point.

Our kitten really likes the smell of some beers, but only certain brands. Like the normally expensive off-license down the road had an offer on this German beer called Dab, and he went nuts for it, kept sniffing round the cans all the time. Normal stuff like Stella, he couldn't care less about.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

An ex-BF of mind had a cat that really loved Genny Cream Ale. Yeah, he drank Genny Cream Ale. We broke up.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

Cats be vomitin'

Chesty Joe Morgan (Chesty Joe Morgan), Friday, 5 January 2007 06:09 (eighteen years ago)

No cat or dog puke can even begin to compare with the noxiousness of human puke. Cat puke dries up and it easily vacuumed away. And dog puke—jeez, you could rinse the kibble off and put it back in the bowl.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 6 January 2007 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

OMG you just made me remember what my brother did... he has a newborn boy, who is now about 6 months? Well the lil darling puked on himself and a bit got on bro's arm... and bro proceeded to go "ew" and HE LICKED IT OFF.

:|

About a minute later after we all finished rolling around going OMGWTF he looked at his arm, made a face and said "yeah that wasn't a great idea".

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 6 January 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

once my mom fed our cat leftover fish (shark i think) and the cat decided to go into my car and puke all over the cloth backseat. a few weeks later mom was taking cat to vet in box and it pissed all over the place. that summer whenever it got hot the entire car smelled like death and no one would ride w/me.

jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 6 January 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

Our cat, Linus, is a puker and pee-er. For this reason he sleeps in the box room, is never allowed in the bedroom, can only be in the living room and kitchen under supervision, eats only dry food and drinks only water. It seems to keep the whole thing on a reasonably even keel, but you have to make sure never, ever to leave coats, bags, shoes, art supplies, anything at all on the floor in the hallway or he will pee on them.

We have had him checked out for UTIs and all sorts, and he was always pronounced fine, but recently switched to a new vet who told us he suffers from some really bad gingivitis and has to have all his teeth out. He is probably always in pain, and yet is a friendly and cheery little chap, despite the puking and peeing. I am looking forward to world's greatest ever cat to emerge after the op.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 6 January 2007 08:00 (eighteen years ago)

Yesterday my cat, Death to Christians, knocked a bunch of papers off a
shelf, and then puked on them. Just to be sure, I assume.
Normally she does cuter things, like stealing random small objects from
my housemates (like bike parts or tubes of paint) and leaving them in
my room.

shieldforyoureyes (shieldforyoureyes), Saturday, 6 January 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

cat puke=minor inconvenience
cat pee=grounds for euthanasia

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

We have friends whose newly adopted kitten had such noxious diarrhea that they named her "Bhopal."

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

I stayed at my aunt and uncle's recently and felt pretty pleased with myself when their wire-thin, falling-apart, sickly old tomcat, who doesn't even purr anymore and for the past few months has barely moved from the kitchen rug in front of the Aga, came up two flights of stairs to sleep on my bed. Ha, I thought, he loves me more than anyone else! And then he woke me up at four a.m. being sick alllll over my duvet and meowing piteously. :(

My cat eats dry food and doesn't get enough water (she refuses to drink from her water bowl, instead she'll jump into the bathroom sink and demand you turn the taps on), so whenever she throws up it's quite dry and easy to clean up, barely messes up the carpet, result. Plus she'll jump off the bed if she feels the urge to vom.

ampersand, hearts, semicolon (cis), Saturday, 6 January 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

cat puke=minor inconvenience
cat pee=grounds for euthanasia

OTM.
We've started closing our bedroom door at night to keep the cats off the bed while we sleep, after a couple of puking-on-crocheted-throws incidents. It's hard to clean puke out of those.

do i have to draw you a diaphragm (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 6 January 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

The worst is when your cat pees on the bed WHEN YOU'RE IN IT and he's really PEEING ON YOU.

I had a dog pee on me the other day. I know people say that's something of an honour, but it's not as nice as a plaque or a rosette.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

The new cat Stella peed on the duvet while I was underneath it. Bad news. But, nothing that a good wash and a dry that a tennis ball (thanks, LaureL!) couldn't fix.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

I always feel like I have post #69 on whatever thread I'm on. I don't know what that means. The moonshine is talking.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

a good wash and a dry that a tennis ball

Splain please.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, the duvet should have been dry cleaned. Fuck that. I washed it warm, and then threw it in the dryer with a tennis ball. The tennis ball has magical fluffing capabilities! It came out really nice, and not too lumpy! (the bouncing ball sorts that shit out)

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

My poor kitty had some kidney thing that made his urine crystally. He had painful pee and he puked everywhere. We switched him to some fancy diet and he was just fine. This was 5 years ago so I don't remember the details.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

My friend Kaye went to answer the phone and came back to find her cat drinking her gin.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:11 (eighteen years ago)

I drank a bunch of sparkling wine last night. The cats didn't go for it. They're teetotalers.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

Kitties I know only like to get stoned. Kitties I knew, I should say. Not that they're dead, they're just far away.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

I think my cats have been stoned. But, maybe I was just stoned and I thought they were too. I don't know. They've probably been stoned.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

Our dogs like a slurp of beer periodically, but the cat isn't interested in booze. Perhaps a sup of tea, but only if he thinks it will really annoy you.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

My cat Biff has been known to scoop up mashed potatoes with his paw. He's a weird dude.

molly mummenschanz (mollyd), Saturday, 6 January 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)

Cats eating shark meat is an amusing upset of the food chain.

Jaq: I recall that M. White doesn't like Hendrick's Gin but you might.

Bob would drink elderflower cordial with vodka in it. Cosmo would drink some king of flavoured blueberry vodka with lemonade.

Scik Mouthy, Sunday, 17 August 2008 11:07 (sixteen years ago)

My wife gives one of our cats pepcid and it seems to cut down on the barf.

libcrypt, Sunday, 17 August 2008 15:15 (sixteen years ago)

She doesn't have hairballs, really, just a touchy stomach. E.g., if she hasn't been fed all day and she's hungry, she'll 99% likely barf up whatever she's given.

libcrypt, Sunday, 17 August 2008 15:16 (sixteen years ago)

my cat pukes all the time. he has stomach cancer though.

akm, Sunday, 17 August 2008 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry to hear that, akm.

Morrie thought about trying my pink gin the other night (Plymouth w/ Peychaud's bitters), but gave it a pass. Neither was interested in Drambuie.
