a poem

Patient and steady with all he must bear,
Ready to meet every challenge with care,
Easy in manner, yet solid as steel,
Strong in his faith, refreshingly real.
Isn't afraid to propose what is bold,
Doesn't conform to the usual mould,
Eyes that have foresight, for hindsight won't do,
Never backs down when he sees what is true,
Tells it all straight, and means it all too.
Going forward and knowing he's right,
Even when doubted for why he would fight,
Over and over he makes his case clear,
Reaching to touch the ones who won't hear.
Growing in strength he won't be unnerved,
Ever assuring he'll stand by his word.
Wanting the world to join his firm stand,
Bracing for war, but praying for peace,
Using his power so evil will cease,
So much a leader and worthy of trust,
Here stands a man who will do what he must.

hey, that's pretty good. there's a gap in the scansion (deliberate?) at 'Going forward', but that's a minor issue.

is this meant to be a wishful-thinking poem about the next US president, or an allegory?

and how much of it is ironic? 'so evil will cease' seems to me to be a sly dig at current US politspeak.

oh dear, is it a loony right-wing poem about Dubya which ethan has posted as a strawman? :-/

I'll stick to my original reading of it, actually, and see how far I can go with it.

i really want to like ethan but he's making it damn tough...

srsly, though, I think it might work as a wishful-thinking satire which morphs (at 'bracing for war') into a full-blown subversion of that idealism, accepting in a final ironic twist that the hawks will prevail.

louis jagger political thread backtracking 07

and what (ooo), Thursday, 4 January 2007 20:25 (eighteen years ago)

how is this backtracking? i though i'd made it clear from the outset that my standpoint was that of a liberal who viewed such writing as an act of satire. i don't know how many times i can say it but i fucking loathe the bush admin and all they stand for.

Doesn't conform to the usual mould,

oh no, it's spread to other countries, too

You've said it very seriously many many times and we all get it by now. THEY JUST LIKE TO FUCK WITH YA HOMIE, and the more sadistic among them enjoy watching you trip over yourself and fume because they think its funny. By moving to fuming and self-defense so quickly you don't do yourself any favors.

ie laugh at the jokes that are at your expense and their number will diminish!

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 4 January 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

Kindly tell me, if you please
In these times what a disease
Let loose upon a nation's tide
Lamented by all far and wide
A plague that comes from all around
Look how the filthy hordes abound
Liars, cheats and robbers all
Mad with hatred, spite and gall
Unless a hero may arise
So we can end what we despise
Loss of all we hold most dear
Is in our future very near
My crusade will battle this
Strength in Britain, we persist

Sapphic verse ahoy!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 5 January 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't ethan post something once about how Ned's constant combing-through-right-wing-blogs bugged him out? Or was that just about the "it's [x month] in Iraq" threads?
