thought this thread was gonna be about [male ilxer] and [female ilxer] amirite

and what (ooo), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

ok already there is a clear divide between tech-nerds and culture-nerds, with the MIT pocket protector types already at a disadvantage against the comic book obsessives who at least have fake social skills.

and what's with all the blondes?? and I'd say only half make it to full-on Beauty but i'm kind of an asshole.

xpost thanks for playing along a little in my sad sad thread bro!

i watched this show last season.

it makes me sick in a way few other television programs can.

really? reality tv as a whole really makes my skin crawl (so does this, a lot, too). but there's something about it... i think i like that people have to learn how to do stuff on the fly, however superficial.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I think this one has a lot of redeeming qualities for a reality show. But then, I watched about 5 hours of it on Monday.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

it really temps me into lame cultural-studies gushing cos it's got the same (ahem) radical potential as something like queer eye: people being forced to learn to be other than what they "are."

still, the cheesecake is the absolute condition of the show's existence; imagine a show where handsome, charismatic young dudes have to be sweet and cooperate with awkward, bright, variously overweight and ugly girls. it'd tank.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, that's the reason why this show annoys me, the gender thing. I've never seen it, though.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

Aha, although someone in my house did point out that there have never been any overweight GUYS on the show (that I'm aware of?). Some are skinnier than others, and some are stocky-ish/husky, but none are actually "fat"!! (XP)

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's alright, for being done in that vomit-inducing American production kind of way.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

i guess i am pre-disposed to hate the way reality shows get casted and this one is just so over the top in the way its subjects are selected in order to re-inforce stupid sterotypes. omg pretty girl learns who's face is on the twenty. omg all smart guys are nerdy.

i admit to only watching it about 1.5 times and then seeing the winners on the today show or something.

Matthew McConnagheyuhay is on the $10, I can tell you that. look at one sometime.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

I saw an episode last night, for the first time. God...there was a part where one of the "beauties" was putting make-up on one of the geeks (Matt was his name, maybe?), and playing with his hair, while in her underwear. His face was bright red. She said something like "I would never ever go for Matt, but he's just so fun to play with!", then they played a clip of him saying "I think I really like ____....". So cruel.
