I was just playing with my dog outside in a t-shirt and barefoot. Insanity! It's only 69 here, technically, but it's january.

HAHA! It's 50 degrees here in Austin.

Of course, it was 80 degrees yesterday.

So wrong. Just walked back from Salv Arm/grocery store and I'm SWEATING. I HATE sweating.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure I like the idea of buying groceries at the Salvation Army store.

It's all very relaxed and blue-skies out here, but there's a nice cold breeze too. Perfect balance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 6 January 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

its cold and snowy here.

The warm weather was mentioned by a few different nightly news reports last night.
Both of them mentioned global warming only in the "While many blame the weather on global warming, others..." way.

El Nino seems to be taking the blame for this one.

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Saturday, 6 January 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

I want snow. It's too weird. When I see a fly or mosquito buzzin' around in January I just feel like everything's fucked.

Jay Vee's Return (Manon_69), Saturday, 6 January 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

it's both. the 2nd-warmest year on record - 98 - followed the last major el nino event.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 6 January 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

I've been going around remarking "holy shit it's January in Minnesota and it's been in the mid 30s!" and now I feel kind of ridiculous.

Does anyone think ILX collectively seems to be in a better mood as a result?

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Sunday, 7 January 2007 06:19 (eighteen years ago)

Works for me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 January 2007 06:20 (eighteen years ago)

passiflora incarnata (get bent), Sunday, 7 January 2007 07:14 (eighteen years ago)

i went to coney island today! it was lovely but otherwise I WANT COLD DAMMIT.

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 7 January 2007 07:48 (eighteen years ago)

it's not el nino

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:19 (eighteen years ago)

the polar bear club refused to go swimming this year because it was too warm.

passiflora incarnata (get bent), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

For realz?? I didn't even know they COULD!

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:33 (eighteen years ago)

haha we were wondering aloud earlier what the polar bear club's take on all this warmth was.

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

in the el nino years its always nice and balmy everywhere but SHITTY here. i need to move to california.

where it's rainy and mudslidey in el nino years

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

el nino is not responsible for it being 70 in nyc today, but it is responsible in part for this being a record-warm year

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)

go cross country skiing, poseur.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 7 January 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

so el nino does happen every 2 to 5 years anyway and from what i've read this year isn't/won't be a particularly strong el nino but: also came across this, which is disturbing but not unexpected.
el nino + global warming = hot 2007

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 7 January 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

I read a lot of towns in Manitoba have been having problems with Polar Bear Clubs wandering into town and getting into the garbage lately.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 7 January 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel (Laurel), Sunday, 7 January 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

No mention of the words "Climate Change" or "Global Warming" anywhere on the page. Weird, I wonder if the Bush Administration has anything to do with their perspective..

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Sunday, 7 January 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

It's all very relaxed and blue-skies out here, but there's a nice cold breeze too. Perfect balance.

People from Los Angeles must recuse themselves from any thread about weather forever.
