why is mousey brown hair considered unattractive?

why? I think it looks nice. Yet a lot of women with hair this colour dye it blonde, or red or black or a mixture thereof.

welcome back, Mark S, whatever it is yr on about. I was wondering how/where you were.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

Mousey sucks. I preferred my hair when it was actually white (as a wee bairn only).

reverto levidensis (blueski), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

I have this hair colour. I used to dye my hair when it was longer, but now that I buzz it really short it doesn't matter.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

I think a lot of people are scared of mice, is the problem.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

The name of the colour is kind of a giveaway.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

hi mark and happy new year -- sorry i wz unable to resist the pitiless iron komedy-logic of "i find feature x very attractive yet all women immediately change said feature to its opposite -- what is happenin here?"

mark s (mark s), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

I think they did it before I was born OMG THEY ARE PRESCIENT TOO!

New Mark H (New MarkH), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

why don't ppl like mice anyways?

New Mark H (New MarkH), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

It's not that it's considered unattractive, it's that it's considered unsexy.

Johnney B English (stigoftdump), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

surely the sexiness or otherwise of hair is determined by how it feels, rather than how it looks?

New Mark H (New MarkH), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Naaah, sexy hair looks sexy.

Johnney B English (stigoftdump), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

passiflora incarnata (get bent), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

Because it is so common, (at least in the UK) and therefore unremarkable.

Also, it is kind of an ugly colour - mouse brown is precisely the colour of dirt.

Not all brown hair is unattractive. Chestnut brown, golden brown, etc. But that particular mouse colour (I think it would be called dun on a horse) is a bit blah.

Do Not Feed The Crush (kate), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

GISing "mousey brown hair" brings up this lady:
http://www.clynemodels.com/new%20faces/newface_images/chloe_shepherd01.jpg

She seems to be doing alright, so it's all fine.

And anyway, I dunno if your premise is really saying. It just seems to be "lots of women dye their hair", which although true says nothing about anything. You can change your hair colour for reasons other than you thinking your current colour is shit.

Johnney B English (stigoftdump), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

my hair is very nearly mousey brown naturally (maybe a bit darker), and ive dyed it pretty much consistently since i was 13. however, since ive grown it long ive started to grow out my mousey brown (right now its like golden-brown on the bottom 8 inches, and mousey brown on the top 8 inches). my plan is to completely grow out the golden shit and then just have mousey brown all over! i kind of like it. i like the idea of never having to dye my hair.

david bowie's been there and thought it was godawful, and there's no getting back from there.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

I used to dye my hair black but at the request of my boyfriend have begun dying it my natural dark-brown. (which I'm not sure is considered mousey)

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

my mousey brown hair does a nice job of disguising the greying trend aka the stealth blond effect.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think it might possibly be considered unattractive because lots of english people have sort of sallow complexions and mousy hair doesn't really contrast or flatter that kind of skin tone much

Mark Co (Markco), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Mousey Brown Hair RULES. It's blonde that SUXORS.

(BTW HappyNewYearMarkS!)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

i don't really think about hair colour much when judging how attractive people are (to me). i'd probably prefer mousey to dyed blue, green, shocking pink or other 'wacky' colours tho. i did think about blonde highlights a few times over the years, but it never looked good on Andy Townsend or Robbie Fowler so why would it look good on me?

reverto levidensis (blueski), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Mice are nice.

yes we do

I always thought my hair was that mouse coloured shade between dark blonde and light brown. But, having grown it out, it surprised me by having terrible secret gingerish-toned tendencies.

As one. Also, I don't care enough to keep up with a dye job. Also, I like mice.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Monday, 8 January 2007 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

okay then mousey definitely does not describe my color brown. My grey hair stands out like !!!!! against my dark hair. hence the constant dyeing. :( I hate dyeing my hair.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 8 January 2007 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

I can't think I've heard of anyone really described with this hair tone, save for in books or movies.

: of, relating to, or resembling a mouse : as a : QUIET, STEALTHY b : TIMID, RETIRING c : grayish brown

Mary (Mary), Monday, 8 January 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

That girl Johnney B posted doesn't have very mousy hair (also it's dyed). She also appears to have an Adam's apple, but that may just be bad lighting.

I have this hairs! I think it's color + oily proclivities + fine texture of hair that leads to its supreme mousiness. Yay ME!

Abbott (Abbott), Monday, 8 January 2007 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

i definitely have oily proclivities and fine hair, deffo mousey. i cant wait until i get the blonde bits at the end of my hair cut off and then i can be 100% MOUSE

I'm all about going mouse too. Well, mine is sort of a dullish dark blonde. I want to see if this summer I can get natural highlights again, like I did when I was a little kid.
