This is the thread where I ask people to politely explain Weekend Update jokes to me from my Saturday Night Live Season 1 DVD (because the shows all aired about four years before I was born)

"This afternoon, Evel Knievel successfully jumped his Harley-Davidson motorcycle over 14 Greyhound buses. Evel will attempt to jump a Greyhound bus over Fred MacMurray and his entire family next week."

Google intimates that fred macmurray was a very tall actor.

tho Mr. Kneivel was (somewhat) still newsworthy in 1975 that joke was stale even then, My Three Sons had been off the air for years. guess the randomness was the point. 4/10

what was the NRA thing that Ford refused to vote on, thus screwing NYC over so badly? (cf the candice bergen episode)

i am not a nugget (stevie), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

NRA thing? The famous Ford NYC "screw-over" was refusing federal funds to bail the city out of its fiscal crisis. Methinks they were making a funny leap as NRA is a non sequitur.

You're either going to have to quote the jokes verbatim or specify what's lost on you.

For the record, the joke was "The White House today released another enemies list... it's the New York City telephone directory"
