And just how many happy returns has it been? Well, I'll never tell.

Put your birthday spankings, wishes and virtual gifts HERE. I've given Nick something he REALLY needs.

No-that's-not-a-cock-ring NEW ANSWERS from the monocled mutineer...

suzy, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

happy birthday momu-er, nick. your presence here means i shall always have someone to argue with, even if only occasionally.

jess, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

First thing *I* thought of when I saw that photo, I should note. ;-)

Much happiness to Nick in whatever manner he celebrates -- first encountered by me a decade ago as a name in an old Trouser Press edition, now a regular ILx participant. Hurrah, I sez!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

many happy returns of the day, mister currie.

richard john gillanders, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i remember how elegant and civil Mr. Currie was to a mere fan when i approached him tentavily in Vancouver , hoping some of the international playboys fairy dust would be sprinkled, hoping a handshake would annoint me and i would be as elegant as he . His picture hangs on my fridge beside St Katherine the Mohawk and Jesus Christ the Jew , SO when i wake every morning he an i are smiling , liviving among the martyrs . I listened to Bishoen this afternoon as i was downloading virus patches , hoping to save the MP3s i have illeagally stored. I hope as a birthday indlugence he will forgive my pilfering . I am glad he has returned here to worship Balthus's naked aristocracy and defend how his hand creeps up the thight of the Japanese girls he adores .

anthony, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A sincerely humbled thanks from the 'creep of the thight'! I am of the age when I no longer celebrate birthdays in public, but thank you for the kind thoughts...

Momus, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your presence here certainly makes the ilx-verse a richer place, though I don't always agree with you. Have a very Happy Birthday!

Nicole, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Would that be the Age of Aquarius? Happy Re-birthing Day!

Kerry, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy N*365, M.!

And to publicly exhibit my numbed skull.. suzy, what exactly is that? A mirror? A magnifying glass for burning ants and analyzing hentai? What?

Brian MacDonald, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a monocle, you silly billy. What type of fop are you going to be if you don't have one yourself?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy birthday old man! You shouldn't stop celebrating birthdays in public. Demand more as you get older.

It could be used to burn things. In fact, that's the best use I can think of.

Maria, Sunday, 10 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

may your birthing aniversary go as Zeus wanted it

mike hanle y, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

at first, i was like, "who's Nick Currie?" then i went, "duh! of course."

have a happy one, Mr. Momus, however or whether you celebrate it. and thanks for your always interesting contributions.

happy birthday to nick, proof that, occasionally, good things do come out of scotland! (a day late aren't i, i always miss the boat!)

Happy Barfday to the only musician with an eye patch other than Slick Rick I'd listen to.....write some tracks about how the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze air purification is a scam.....I got one in the mall last week and all it's done is make my room smell incredibly metallic...the dust, smoke and smell still linger....I never keep receipts so I don't think I can return it....I could always pawn it for 50 bucks or so, but this device disappoints and angers me so much I think I'm just going to baseball bat it....which will only create more problems as the plastic shards will poke through my garbage bag when I want to throw it out but what can you do, thats the way the world works

Ramosi, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a day late, its today I do believe.

Ed, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not celebrating your birthday in public, Nick? LIES. Last year as the clock struck midnight to become the 11th, did you or did you not get your computer to sing Happy Birthday to you in front of a few hundred people in Williamsburg?

See, he loves it, really...

suzy, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy birthday Momus. I am only half Japanese and I study film instead of art but I still like what you're doing. How about that.

Honda, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy Birthday..........some day I may actually hear some of your music!

Ronan, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, happy birthday Mr Nick. For yesterday. Um, I saw you live once and you were lots of fun.

Ally C, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can anyone make a good you only live twice gag here? I can't.

Happy Birthday, Momus. I like you being here.

N., Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know the proper saying but uh... Tanoshii tanzyobi, Nick-chan will probably be understandable, no?!?

helenfordsdale, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy birthday!

DG, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy Birthday Momus. And thank you for embedding the phrase "cunilingus kiss-a-gram" into my poor easily-distracted bwane.

Graham, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, Happy Birthday, (on the 16th).

rroland, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

PS: Suzy, check out the Feb / March edition of Index magazine. There's a truly horrible photo of us on page 83, taken at my last birthday. I don't know which of us looks more like a vampire. I have a shaved head and shaved eyebrow and am about to sip a blood-like vodka cranberry. You are making a Nosferatu claw shape above my head, your lips a grim determined line, your eyes two deranged red disks in the flash.

Momus, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Momus and Suzy = Spike and Dru for the jetset scene. Or something.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn, the greenspun server wasn't cooperative yesterday. But better late if ever...

Happy birthday! May you live to experience many more enjoyable trips around Old Sol.

Nick, tu es le dernier mot de chic, beau diable!

Isn't Suzy sweet? However you look at it, the perfect gift for a one-eyed monster! ; p

Melinda Mess-Injure, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hot cha cha and a happy birthday to you, Momus.

Sleepy Arthur, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy birthday, Momus!

rosemary, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Whoops, I hope Nick didn't take my bit of joshing above seriously -- I didn't mean to be nasty about your damaged (hopefully speedily recovering?) eye, and I don't think you're a monster! Well, maybe an adorable one. ; )

BTW, even when your eye is fully healed, you should still wear the eyepatch occasionally because it's attractive. Isobel Campbell said as much at the first Belle and Sebastian show in San Francisco. She noticed a handsome young man in the crowd sporting a sexy eyepatch, and she asked him if his eyepatch was medically necessary. Then she went on to relate how fascinated she was with your eyepatch and the band's desire to see what was underneath. Disability chic, check it out, mahn!

Melinda Mess-Injure, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, was this awful picture taken at that Williamsburg loft party you played at, or the Ford Wright thing? Are you making that 'whoops, I've got the runs' face provoked by a duel with General Tso's Chicken? I seem to remember you were going Bowie on the shaved-eyebrow front but this is INFINITELY PREFERABLE to any of your novelty beards. Anyhow scan and send so I can agonise in the privacy of my own home, okay?

Ned: Spike and Dru? I'm a little bit more Anya, really. Nick has no Buffy equivalent unless it's Giles throwing C3PO-type fits.

suzy, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

B-but surely Momus = guy who built a robot girlfriend?

mark s, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Funny you should say that Mark...

Nicole, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, was this awful picture taken at that Williamsburg loft party you played at, or the Ford Wright thing?

It was taken at Passerby. Jorge Colombo took it. Stephanie Pappas is on the left, and Steve Lafreniere on the right. It's an illustration for an article about the electroclash scene in NYC, although what we have to do with that I don't know, except for the fact that you split up Fischerspooner, according to a previous edition of Index. (Since your departure from NYC they have reformed, although Kent the CIO didn't survive the LA trip.) By the way, speaking of FS, I just saw Cindy Greene's documentary about Chris Brick (started Demob in London, Smylonylon in NY) at the New York Independent Film Festival Sunday. Interesting...

Momus, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AAAARGH I did not split up Fischerspooner, smartarse, one of them who didn't write songs or music was just cross that I didn't ask her many interview questions while Casey talked ten million to the dozen as usual.

By the way, did you know they call you 'Patches?'

suzy, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm late, i'm late....

happy bday

Geoff, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
