I do not have a telephone, I do not have a cell phone

I haven't had a PHONE since July of '06. It's starting to bum me out because I miss talking to my Boise folx. It also makes it hard to apply for jobs. Whenever you tell someone you don't have a PHONE they act like you live in a cave where you scrape guano off the floor for sustenance.

BUT it's nice not being bothered by dipshits, telemarketers, et. al. Nice not having to worry about an impossible cell phone contract.

What is the longest you've been without a phone? Did you enjoy it or was it maddening?

I didn't have a mobile till about three years ago, way after the rest of the world had one. Now I panic if I forget to take it out with me, it's become quite an important psychological prop, which I swore wouldn't happen when I first got it.

A couple of days here and there when I misplace or break a phone. I'd be ok without one, work aside.

Being without a car, however, I start to freak out after a couple of hours.

i'm jealous. but if you do want to get a phone at some point you should get a cellphone with prepaid. that way if you get sick of it you just don't buy any more minutes and you never owe anybody anything.

Yeah, if you prefer to do your serious talking face-to-face and mainly use the phone for arranging stuff, pay as you go is defineately the way to go.

Being without a phone is fine. It's being without email that's like cave-dwelling. I have totally lost touch with all my old friends who don't have email, even if I have a phone# for them. I hate the phone.

I go through this guilt thing when I forget to bring my phone like OMG what if a loved one is in DIRE NEED of my help and can't get in touch with me!

It's a nice reminder to tone down my ego.

Err... between November 1998, when I moved back to the UK, and ... blimey, it must have been December 2000, mostly I had no phone. I had fought with BT so I had no landline after the first few months, and couldn't be bothered to get a mobile. I had a phone at work, for important stuff, but for everything else, I just emailed from work.

I finally got a mobile around the time that I got a boyfriend. Now I'm hooked.

I honestly cannot recall how I lived without a mobile telephone.

I think I was happier then.

but.. text messages.

I don't have a mobile phone and I have never had one. If I'm not at work/home, people can email me or leave a message on my answering machine. There are maybe two or three times every year when it would make my life easier if I had a mobile phone. But that's not enough times for me to bother to get one.

I wouldn't really miss a cellphone. Heck, I don't have it with me. I think the main thing I like about cellphones is the organizer bit: I like to keep my "to do things"' and appointments on it. Text message is pretty handy. But I don't use it as a phone much. I don't like phoning much.

i spent four months without a cellphone or landline, and it was amazingly freeing. people who wanted to find me had to message me on msn or ring my doorbell. i still don't have a landline, but i did reactivate my cell... prepaid, and therefore unlisted. i barely use it, so the 20$ a month i generally spend on it goes a long way.

I used to use my mobile a lot when I first got it, but now it could go a week without being charged, it gets so little use. I can't really get rid of it, though, because it's the only contact number a lot of people have for me.

OMG ABBOTT GET A CELL FONE FFS

jhoshea no tee em (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 15 January 2007 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

One of my favorite things about having a cell phone is finding those pockets of service deep in the woods. It's like "omg mom, guess where I'm calling from?"..."where?"..."I'm on top of a mountain in Big South Fork National Park!"..."that's great, be careful honey".

Thread title puts "I wish I heard voices, I wish I were a telephone" in my head non-stop.

You can almost always get service on mountaintops, too. Funny how unthrilled people are to find out you're calling them from a mountaintop.
