hi mark! how exciting to have a piano! can you play chopsticks? oh my gosh - you need to get a piano playing friend over and play some duets, it'd be grand (pun intended).

Still at the same place in OC that you saw when you were here (and Native Foods thrives as always). Busy with a lot of writing and travel and other work, improving my cooking and generally just keeping well!

I'm living in Austin and mostly spend time renovating my house and sewing/knitting. that is all. oh, also have a new kitty.

I'm just a big bundle of blah at the moment, so I'll refrain from clogging up your thread with depression. Still living in the house I bought a year ago. Still working for bankers though it bores me to tears. My band broke up about a month ago and I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life.

Things are better than good at the moment. I'm getting married in the summer and it's my fiancee's birthday today hurrah! The snag is she currently lives in Toronto (power of internet &c) but she's coming over in summer - fingers crossed that all the visas/work stuff goes according to plan - and we have a super new flat in town to move into when she gets here.

After five years of depressive post-bereavement solitude it's like being released from jail...

I am going to a Europe concert in February.

I'm older now, and (hopefully) wiser. I purchased my first home a couple of months ago and am still living out of boxes, but the number of boxes appears to be slowly decreasing in number. I'm currently holed up at the new home now because of unusually icy weather conditions outside. Yesterday was a hoot when I got home from work because I found out it was balmier up in Philadelphia than it was down here in TX. Um, other things -- I'm 27 now and am kinda freaking out about being that much closer to 30, um, and as usual my birthday was anticlimactic BUT I DID score an iPod for a combo Christmas/birthday gift from my mother (that was the scream you must've heard in late December), I'm stressed out because the old house hasn't sold yet but am confident that it WILL sell, I scored me a promotion at work and now work much further away from home (have to report in at a different facility), AND that's pretty much it.

good work on the knitting trayce - any stellar creations to date? i love knitting, me and the gf are starting a stitch and bitch, grannying it up all over ye olde dunedin.

hi justyn you old devil! ahh raspberyy beret. i ate some raspberries yesterday, it was delicious. i was also thinking of you yesterday!! i've been trying to convince ramanda to come to the states with me and visit you. she wants to go to mongolia though. WOMEN!! also have been reading a bit of michelle tea, she writes about tucson quite a bit, and it brings back awesome memories of hanging out with you!! oooh i found all my tombstone memorabilia yesterday as i was packing up my room.

ahh the dead c - yeah they seem like nice dudes. you should come to new zealand! we're having the crappiest summer in 60 years and the kokako (native new zealand bird) has officially been declared extinct, but don't let that put you off!

oh, in a live ME update, i haven't had a drop to drink in three whole months! i'm aware i've quit alcohol at least three times during my time on ilx, but for reals, this is it, i really can't see myself drinking again. and this time i've got lots of supportive people around to help me through.

it's cool to see you are still around hun, congratulations on your newly acquired ipod and promotion and HOUSE (i swear i am green with envy of all these home-owning ilxors, you lucky lucky devils). 27 is a great age to be, don't worry about nearing thirty, thirty's gonna be good i promise. 27 is such a nice number - it sounds so sophisticated. do you get that? people are like "ooooh!" when i tell them i'm 27. they were all like "err" when i was 26.

Thanks for the congratulations, and yeah, I can't divorce myself of this place no matter how hard I try. I spent almost four years squirreling my money away like crazy and 3/4 of those savings went into the down payment for this house. The iPod was a total surprise. I thought for sure I was only getting shoes this year (because I'd told Mom I wanted shoes). But I guess she paid attention in November when I mentioned off-hand that I was saving for an iPod. I still don't feel like I'm a different age, but I suppose that will change as the year progresses. 27 does feel more like an "adult" age to mention, yes.

Wondering about a change of direction, again. Time to go back to school, I think and have almost decided what to do, but i keep getting new ideas. I'd Ideally like to tour universities for the rest of my days devouring knowledge across the sciences and humanities. I think I would have made a good enlightenment gentleman polymath.

with the victory of the colts over the rival new england patriots, peyton manning has finally tossed the monkey off his back (but don't tell him that, he doesn't believe in monkeys) and tony dungy will make his first appearance in the super bowl after many seasons as coach of both the bucs and colts.

over in the nfc, lovie smith's bears defeated the new orleans saints, who will certainly be back in contention next year after an inspiring season led by new coach sean payton, new quarterback drew brees, wily vets joe horn and deuce mcallister, and sizzling rookies marques colston and reggie bush. but for now, it's the bears representing the nfc in the super bowl, led by the aforementioned smith and scrappy qb rex grossman, hard-nosed linebacker brian urlacher, and a punishing rb tandem of thomas jones and cedric benson.

the only question now is who will emerge victorious from the super bowl? stay tuned. i know i'll be watching.
