hi!! i still think of and miss the multitude of pulchritudinous sweeties on ilx sometimes, and because i can't really keep track of the threads and new people anymore i was hoping you all could tell me how you're doing. *hugs and air kisses* - lurex

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

Yay! Di, I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it out to NZ as I planned for this time, but I'm hoping next year this time I should be there. How's been things?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

i have a piano and i am learning to play the can-can! i am very bad

mark s (mark s), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

Hi ned! no problems - i'm sure we will meet again soon if not here then there! things have been okay, i'm six months away from finishing my thesis (if everything goes according to plan), so i'm excited about having that over and done with. in the midst of moving to a bigger, brighter, insulated house hoorah!! me and my girlfriend have bought a drumkit.

how about you ned?

hi mark! how exciting to have a piano! can you play chopsticks? oh my gosh - you need to get a piano playing friend over and play some duets, it'd be grand (pun intended).

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

Finishing your thesis, a big move! Great to hear it. :-) And moving and starting fresh is always grand fun, as is bashing around on something.

Still at the same place in OC that you saw when you were here (and Native Foods thrives as always). Busy with a lot of writing and travel and other work, improving my cooking and generally just keeping well!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

oooh tell me more about your writing and travel - and your cooking!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, well check my flickr site for a lot of photos of both travel and cooking! (Most of the cooking shots are in the 'General life photos' set.) Writing projects are currently on the boil on a few fronts, more on that separately. This thread and an earlier one for last year I'm having trouble finding contain more on the cooking front.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

I've devolved into a complete and utter parody of myself! Also I am singing in a cover band now.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

thanks ned! there's some pretty looking food going on there. and some pretty boy floyd, they sure are handsome.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hehehe. :-) Oh! Did you see there's a two-CD special edition of Hysteria now? I picked it up the other day, it rules.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

hey dan you're a really good singer! and congratulations on being a parody of yourself!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

gosh i didn't know about the hysteria special edition! gasp! my finger is most definitely not on the pulse.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Di! I was thinking of you recently and wondering what happened to you (and jeanne fury).

I'm living in Austin and mostly spend time renovating my house and sewing/knitting. that is all. oh, also have a new kitty.

congrats on the thesis.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

(and jeanne fury)

Jeanne posted the other week! Ally and I were terribly happy. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

Here's the Amazon listing for Hysteria.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

hey sam! i just found your website today and posted you a little message. hey so when did you move outta dallas? you have your OWN house? that is so cool. do you have a photo of your new kitty? what have you been knitting? i went through a phase of knitting mittens, hats and scarves for my friends and the year before, to help them survive the brisk dunedin winters... my next mission is to knit VESTS. do you have a myspace hun?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

I left Dallas about 2 1/2 yrs ago. so much happier. my boy and I have a house here now.

here's kitty: http://www.flickr.com/photos/misery/ My other passed away a couple of months ago.

I haven't been on MySpace since Nov. and am trying to just stay off. ;) lots of time-wasting and dumb stuff. but I'm on the ilxor group.

I plan to start blogging regularly again as I have lots of cranky old lady things to say. do you have a blog going?

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

ned i noticed the photos of sleater-kinney... how i miss them. me and my friend melissa had sleater-kinney day, a couple months back. for the whole day we listened to nothing but sleater-kinney and we ate a vegan sleater-kinney cake. which was just chocolate cake with 'sleater-kinney' badly scripted on it with icing. i'm obsessed with elliott smith and i'm starting a band with my girlfriend called Crimping Cooch. not that those things have anything to do with each other.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

wheezy is so cute - why is s/he(?) named so? s/he (?) looks a bit like my friend nancy's cat, kitty. i have a livejournal - can i email you the web address? not that it's a secret, i just don't want to advertise.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, email me. i need blogs to read regularly again.

wheezy is named after Lil' Wayne. I like to try and name my pets after rappers.

yay elliott!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)

Lovely to see you, Di! Was just thinking of you the other day, in fact. Things are good with me - 'dating' someone who makes me really happy, work is fine, thinking about moving to North Carolina, maybe, to be with my best friend as she goes through her pregnancy, and Spencer's great. Givvus more news, luv?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 00:27 (eighteen years ago)

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di! How are you gorgeous!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

hey luna! how nice to hear from you - i'm glad to hear your dating up a storm! how old is spencer now? i've completely lost track. let me know if you make the move - that's so sweet of you to want to be with your friend during her pregnancy - i bet you have lots of great advice to share with her.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

hi di! how is rainy -- you CUTIES!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

Di - I'm good! My boy has landed a fantastic job as a special effects programmer at Big Independant Games co, so he's making great dime... I hate my job but haha I always do. I taught myself to knit! I'm such a granny.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

He's 9 now - 4th grade and such a good kid.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)

hi di! nothing's new w/ me that you don't already know but i heard "raspberry beret" the other day and thought of you!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 08:02 (eighteen years ago)

Today is my daughter's birthday. Hurrah!

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di! i live in England now, in Hackney. I'm doing a new radio show with mark s and Tim Hopkins and Pete Baran and Kat Stevens (and others! I think we're going to get Tom Ewing on). There's a thread about it somewhere, but it's on Resonance FM, Sundays at noon so tune in if you want to hear our real, human voices.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di!

[Ned, ]tell me more about your writing and travel - and your cooking! is just about the least necessary request I've ever seen :)

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hello, Di!

I'm just a big bundle of blah at the moment, so I'll refrain from clogging up your thread with depression. Still living in the house I bought a year ago. Still working for bankers though it bores me to tears. My band broke up about a month ago and I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life.

Hope everything is good with you! Buying a drumkit sounds great - hope you have understanding neighbours!

The Long Grey And Overcast Tea Time Of The Soul (kate), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di, long time no read etc.

Things are better than good at the moment. I'm getting married in the summer and it's my fiancee's birthday today hurrah! The snag is she currently lives in Toronto (power of internet &c) but she's coming over in summer - fingers crossed that all the visas/work stuff goes according to plan - and we have a super new flat in town to move into when she gets here.

After five years of depressive post-bereavement solitude it's like being released from jail...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

HI DI HOW ARE YOU; I am fairly miserable, BUT i am embroidering a tea towel!!!!!

i've dreamt of rubies! (Mandee), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

Hello Di!

I am going to a Europe concert in February.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

hi di! it is 14F here and I am giving my baby a haircut.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

Hello Di. Nice to see you around again. :)

I'm older now, and (hopefully) wiser. I purchased my first home a couple of months ago and am still living out of boxes, but the number of boxes appears to be slowly decreasing in number. I'm currently holed up at the new home now because of unusually icy weather conditions outside. Yesterday was a hoot when I got home from work because I found out it was balmier up in Philadelphia than it was down here in TX. Um, other things -- I'm 27 now and am kinda freaking out about being that much closer to 30, um, and as usual my birthday was anticlimactic BUT I DID score an iPod for a combo Christmas/birthday gift from my mother (that was the scream you must've heard in late December), I'm stressed out because the old house hasn't sold yet but am confident that it WILL sell, I scored me a promotion at work and now work much further away from home (have to report in at a different facility), AND that's pretty much it.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

whoa hi di! how's nz? things are good in new york. i know you're not a huge fan but in december i met the dead c. in the uk, and they're super-nice dudes. i so wanna visit now.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Tad! How are you? I have missed your effervescence!! I'm not sure how rainy is - i haven't seen much of her for a while. We're both pretty busy and have different friends and stuff - but it's always so nice when i do see her. i'm glad mark can keep us up to date with her!

good work on the knitting trayce - any stellar creations to date? i love knitting, me and the gf are starting a stitch and bitch, grannying it up all over ye olde dunedin.

hi justyn you old devil! ahh raspberyy beret. i ate some raspberries yesterday, it was delicious. i was also thinking of you yesterday!! i've been trying to convince ramanda to come to the states with me and visit you. she wants to go to mongolia though. WOMEN!! also have been reading a bit of michelle tea, she writes about tucson quite a bit, and it brings back awesome memories of hanging out with you!! oooh i found all my tombstone memorabilia yesterday as i was packing up my room.

happy birthday to your daughter nathalie! i don't know if i ever got to congratulate you on your little girl - but very belated congratulations. is this her first or second birthday? i bet she's hella cute.

hi tracer! I will make a note of your radio show in my diary!

hi kate - i'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling so grand, and i'm sorry about your band breaking up too, that really sucks. i hope all starts picking up for you soon hun. yeah i'm excited about the drumkit, it's sparkly and silver, so pretty. and hella sturdy stands.

marcello it's so good to hear that you are feeling happier and congratulations on your engagement - roll on summer huh?

hi mandee, gosh ilx really is stitchcraft heaven isn't it?

jel that's so cool! say hi to joey tempest for me! i really wanted to marry him when i was 8 or something.

hey teeny! i hope you and your baby are keeping warm. are there photos around??

phoenix dancing - are you the artist formerly known as dee? just making sure...

ahh the dead c - yeah they seem like nice dudes. you should come to new zealand! we're having the crappiest summer in 60 years and the kokako (native new zealand bird) has officially been declared extinct, but don't let that put you off!

oh, in a live ME update, i haven't had a drop to drink in three whole months! i'm aware i've quit alcohol at least three times during my time on ilx, but for reals, this is it, i really can't see myself drinking again. and this time i've got lots of supportive people around to help me through.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

Very good to hear about this last news. :-) I promise not to lead you into the temptations of BOOZE the next time I'm through. Even though I will likely quaff something myself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

ahh the dead c - yeah they seem like nice dudes. you should come to new zealand! we're having the crappiest summer in 60 years and the kokako (native new zealand bird) has officially been declared extinct, but don't let that put you off!

this is addressed to hstencil, hello!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

quaff away ned, booze is no temptation for me anymore! :-) i will celebrate with you by drowning myself in a bucket of virgin cocktails.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)

omg that's sad about the kokako. ;_;

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

No kokako, fiddlesticks. NO MORE DEAD BIRDS, I tell you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

I'm STILL Dee, hon. That can't be changed. But the "lurker" thing no longer applied so I decided on a change of pace. Process of elimination, I suppose? And congratulations on your continued sobriety. Three months is very celebratory. Keep it up!

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

thanks dee! it sure is celebratory!! in fact i'm gonna have a party and get totally loaded in my honour!!

it's cool to see you are still around hun, congratulations on your newly acquired ipod and promotion and HOUSE (i swear i am green with envy of all these home-owning ilxors, you lucky lucky devils). 27 is a great age to be, don't worry about nearing thirty, thirty's gonna be good i promise. 27 is such a nice number - it sounds so sophisticated. do you get that? people are like "ooooh!" when i tell them i'm 27. they were all like "err" when i was 26.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

hold the phone - the south island kokako is extinct, the north island kokako is still going strong.
this is for my homiez: http://www.terranature.org/kokako_PUBL0012_180w.jpg
RIP south island kokako.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

man i'd forgotten how addictive this place can be.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

27 is a perfect cube

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

hi tep!

27 is a perfect cube

so that's why it sounds so impressive.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 00:15 (eighteen years ago)

lets stay 27 forever dee!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

thanks dee! it sure is celebratory!! in fact i'm gonna have a party and get totally loaded in my honour!!

THAT'S THE SPIRI-- er. ;)

Thanks for the congratulations, and yeah, I can't divorce myself of this place no matter how hard I try. I spent almost four years squirreling my money away like crazy and 3/4 of those savings went into the down payment for this house. The iPod was a total surprise. I thought for sure I was only getting shoes this year (because I'd told Mom I wanted shoes). But I guess she paid attention in November when I mentioned off-hand that I was saving for an iPod. I still don't feel like I'm a different age, but I suppose that will change as the year progresses. 27 does feel more like an "adult" age to mention, yes.

hold the phone - the south island kokako is extinct, the north island kokako is still going strong.

Aw. Poor South Island Kokako. R.I.P. forever.

lets stay 27 forever dee!

DEAL! Until we're 64, that is. (That's another "perfect cube" age.)

Oh, it is so good to see you around these parts again....

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

THAT'S THE SPIRI-- er. ;)

spirits? for me? how can a girl refuse?

lets not turn 64 eh, how about regressing to 8 instead?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 01:09 (eighteen years ago)

lets not turn 64 eh, how about regressing to 8 instead?

Ooh, that'd be beautiful. Even more so if we could actually go back to being able to eat as much candy as we'd like without getting violently ill.

And hey, speaking of spirits, there's actually a liquor store close by me now. So plenty of spirits! For you! (Not me, though. But you can have my share.)

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

Hi, Di. I was just thinking about you the other day for no good reason. I'm back in school, learning Latin, and the band has an album coming out in a few weeks. And I have a little chapbook coming out soon. It's fun. Soon Amazon.com will be validating my existence, rah.

Glad to hear you're doing well!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

hello di

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 03:58 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha eating candy oh man that'd be great, i think i eat more chocolate now than i ever did when i was 8. spirits hahahaha not for me thanks, i kid, i prefer to let everyone else do the drinking, it makes it so much easier to win card games.

hi chris!!! i was thinking of you the other day too - i mean to dig out the cd you sent me and play it on my radio show. chapbook = ??

hai haikunym! do you still write in haiku form?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

only when i want
people to like me again,
mostly over that

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

Greetings Di

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

Chapbook = little book of poetry. But it gets its own ISBN, which somehow makes it all more official somehow.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Di, it's Arthur. Glad things are going well. Every time I drive by the men's room where George Michael got busted I think of you. Well, actually I think of you more often that, seeing as how I'm rarely in Beverly Hills. Anyway, I'm still leading the life of a sedentary schoolmarm, dreaming of moving back east but never doing anything about it. Still DJing once a month or so. Kind of happy. xxx

Punky Husbear Party (Arthur), Sunday, 21 January 2007 05:48 (eighteen years ago)

Hi, Di,

Wondering about a change of direction, again. Time to go back to school, I think and have almost decided what to do, but i keep getting new ideas. I'd Ideally like to tour universities for the rest of my days devouring knowledge across the sciences and humanities. I think I would have made a good enlightenment gentleman polymath.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 21 January 2007 07:23 (eighteen years ago)

firstly congrats on getting published chris, that's tumeke bro (as we say around here roughly translates as AWESOME).

hi ed - what are you going to study?

hi chris b!!

omg arthur! hahaha i absolutely still have the photo of you and ned and vik outside that rest room and i show it to all my friends. heh heh. i'm glad to hear you're still djing, cos your djing rules.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

Transport Planning, Geomatics, Geophysics or Brewing.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

hi di, nfl commissioner roger goodell here.

with the victory of the colts over the rival new england patriots, peyton manning has finally tossed the monkey off his back (but don't tell him that, he doesn't believe in monkeys) and tony dungy will make his first appearance in the super bowl after many seasons as coach of both the bucs and colts.

over in the nfc, lovie smith's bears defeated the new orleans saints, who will certainly be back in contention next year after an inspiring season led by new coach sean payton, new quarterback drew brees, wily vets joe horn and deuce mcallister, and sizzling rookies marques colston and reggie bush. but for now, it's the bears representing the nfc in the super bowl, led by the aforementioned smith and scrappy qb rex grossman, hard-nosed linebacker brian urlacher, and a punishing rb tandem of thomas jones and cedric benson.

the only question now is who will emerge victorious from the super bowl? stay tuned. i know i'll be watching.

roger
