just read yesterdays article in the guardian after the newly middle-browed panorama has been scheduled to go head to head with dispatches, which according to dorothy byrne from ch4 is the most 'unashamedly heavyweight programme' shes ever worked on. funny that, cos i thought it was just a programmed exclusively devoted to scaremongering about islam and muslims and keeping the sensationalist western/british fear/demonisation of islam firmly intact week after week, just in case anyone in england started thinking muslims werent all crazed nutjobs.

that's monumentally stupid programming.

but also you're wrong.

what happened to Cutting Edge?

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

why? its all they seem to cover. i found that jon snow programme 'what british muslims really think' a couple of months back quite insulting and misleading and deliberately playing into peoples fear/misunderstanding of muslims.

was the polling data flawed or what?

what about that 'gay and muslim' docu a few months back?

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

does the british public ever tire of having their fears confirmed?

Last weeks 'Fighting the Taleban' was terrific. Up close and personal with people holding enormous knives and rocket launchers and waiting to be bombed from above was some scary television.

didn't see the gay muslims programme. it does have a lot of shows on muslims in britain. this is because it's quite a big contemporary issue that has large repercussions in education, social services, and around freedom of speech. also titchy radical islam is not something the daily mail invented to scare people. (plus it gets more ratings than programmes about i dunno personal borrowing levels.)
