Admirers 'increase male appeal'

Because of course, this is a shock to us all

But in actual pracise, rather than a scientific study, to what extent have we found this to be true?

I went out with some beautiful girls the previous week aaaaaaaaaaaand.....rien.

of course male/female relations are slightly more complicated than that but thoughts?

ps.. this IS a drunk thread

Oh of course what your peers think of someone counts at least a tiny bit. Think of trophy wives/himbos in Hollywood. But it's only a small bit; consider the people who go out of their way to date people others disapprove of, as well. Which, ha ha, doesn't disprove of my first point I guess.

I'm not even very drunk, what a sad ability to think I am left with after watching a terrible Tony Scott film.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

which terrible tony scott film? i'm not here to judge.

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously I'm not. I'm listening to goddamn countin crows for fuck's sake. I'm gonna pay for that admission aren't I?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

It was Domino. It's an odd film because it's an interesting enough story, and, while the cast are no GREAT actors, they are certainly not TERRIBLE actors, and aren't at all boring...what on earth did Tony Scott do to go and ruin it so completely? It was like trying to watch 4 hours of Hype Williams videos, except only if he was producing for AMP or something.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

Sound painful bbbbbbut it's got Keira Knightly in it right?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'd imagine this sort of thing is true about women's attraction about men only as much as it's true about anyone's attraction to anything.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it does, and also Christopher Walken, both decent sized plusses.

xpost yes, that's OTM, and it's not just women though, it seems unfair to single out women in the study when I know so many men who make big fusses over making sure their friends think their gfs are hot. It's not like anyone will break up with a person over it but it definitely figures into it.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:31 (nineteen years ago)

surely we can now say the wedding ring phenomenon is proven by science?

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:32 (nineteen years ago)

as in a weddign ring = "hey look at me i am a desirable male, so much so that a woman has MARRIED me". it's like having a chick looking at you and smiling all the time, except as a ring on your finger.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ladies see the ring, they know immediately that you must have some cash, and your cock must work.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:34 (nineteen years ago)

haha! i was thinking of that exact same line but couldnt reproduce it.

plus this info will forever change the world of internet dating/myspace. just get your sister or mom or someone to look at you adoringly and the girls will flock.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:35 (nineteen years ago)

xpost My friends have always thought my girlfriends have always been far more attractive than i deserve. that has always made me a smug bastard.

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

not sure what point that comment makes. again, je suis intoxiqué

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

it all makes sense with the article.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:49 (nineteen years ago)

There was a cute girl making copies in the office today and we were sort of casting furtive glances at each other, and then this middle-aged woman I know, out of nowhere, booms "So how's the married life?" FUK YOU SNAP ME OUT OF MY FANTASY!

Don't think it made me more attractive to the girl though.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:50 (nineteen years ago)

married? i think not. actually in the company of your wife it probably would though.

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:54 (nineteen years ago)

Girls like bad boys.
Adam Ant covered this in his highly regarded song/video of "Stand and Deliver".
He's the dandy highwayman that you're too scared to mention!
If only he could appear and take over the Pride and Prejudice thread we would be all set!
WWAAD? That's my question.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:59 (nineteen years ago)

this study is interesting in its specificity tho. because if they showed me pictures of a guy getting smiled at by women i would probably impulsively think he was a total douche.

now a girl getting approving smiles from a bunch of dudes, well im not sure what i would think, beyond feeling it was sort of creepy...

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

aimurchie, did you just watch the Adam and the Ants greatest hits video collection? If so, is it out on DVD? I only have it on VHS yet no vcr.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:02 (nineteen years ago)

;_; I liked "Domino". (I would, though.)

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, you have to admit the movie is a total train wreck of editing nightmares.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

Total wreck of awesomeness.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:05 (nineteen years ago)

The first hour is actually literally unwatchable. Second better, but still, the direction/editing is really horrible :(

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

Milo OTM! Also, "Blacktino"! etc

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

Oh that scene was great, as was everything said by CHristopher Walken.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

WIN/WIN

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah but the rest of it.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and the scene where she punches douche from 90210--that was good too.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:09 (nineteen years ago)

my favorite was the shot where she breaks sorority girl's nose

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

WIN/WIN/WIN

OMG Aqua Teen Hunger Force is even more fucked up than it usually is; wtf Shake's son defeating the Chess Dragon?

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:11 (nineteen years ago)

Shake has a son? Where have I been.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

I never know what episode of ATHF is on because the cable guide description just says Food items solve crime. Damn.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:13 (nineteen years ago)

Shake only has a son in this episode. And he's not really Shake's son. And he gets eaten by the Chess Dragon. Um. Drugs are bad?

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm. I suppose I should ask about this Chess Dragon next.

AllyzayEisenschefterBDawkinsFlyingSquirrelRomoCrying.jpg (allyzay), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

You can ask but I don't think I can give you a satisfactory answer because the episode was going all down a normal ATHF "Shake has an illegitimate son who is fucking annoying, ergo Shake tries to kill himself" path when all of a sudden, Ezekiel (this is the annoying minishake) turns out to be a chess prodigy capable of beating the heretofore unheard-of "Chess Dragon", who then gets a ton of sand in his vagina and flies off with the annoying minishake.

WAHT

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:19 (nineteen years ago)

Food items solve crime
it should say um. drugs are bad?
(i like this show.)

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:30 (nineteen years ago)

The digital cable guide descriptions are a little odd here -- I scroll through them sometimes just for that reason. Some of them are very terse, like that, and then the Cosby Show, let's say, might be a paragraph-long description of the show running down all the members of the family -- or another show might have an episode-specific description that's weirdly editorial, like "In an eleventh-season episode that sums up many of the problems burdening the once-entertaining series, Mel Brooks returns as Paul's Uncle Phil to regale the Buckmans with fart jokes and flaunt his combover; watch for Arye Gross in an uncredited cameo as the cabbie."

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 January 2007 05:35 (nineteen years ago)

domino is great.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 06:31 (nineteen years ago)

Adam Ant would say:
