Dan, now that I know about your excellent influences, I will go see your band. (I do not fear ant or bunnybrain music.)

I recently heard the demo version of this song from the boxset, I guess. It's totally mental, what with all the whooping and yelling etc.

"Dirk.." is a really great album.I think the second album is "Kings of the Wild Frontiers", not "Stand and Deliver".
WHAT harpsichord drop in bit?

-- there is something very bonkersly genius about "an 18th Century brain / in a 21st Century head"
-- while the number of pop lyrics pointing out the schism between Us Ver Yoof and Them Thee Old are legion, "don't you ever, don't you ever / lower yourself, forgetting all your standards" still works when one is of the latter category, for not being too specific. It's not the boring suit that's evil, it's my reason for wearing it.

None. I think he means the, erm, steel guitar? I'm not sure this is the right term, Americans have the weirdest instruments.

Albums Shmalbums. I was talking about the single. After three hits in a row with Dog Eat Dog, Kings of the Wild Frontier and Antmusic expectations were high. Stand and Deliver exceeded them beyond all hopes.

Those instruments do sound abit alike. They're primarily distingishable through playing style prob. And also recording conventions.

"And even though you fool your souls your conscience will be mine."
Albums Shmalbums? I can only hope that you are joking. I had every single thing - and my mom threw it away! All of my albums - including so many rare things, like "Dirk Wears White Socks".I only have a few things because I collect. Do not ever album shmalbum me! I come from a place of great pain....cricket, and I will rise again! I will have the picture disc of Prince Charming!

The loss of albums is real, and I think this is the first time I have talked about it! It was years later when I figured it out. I was living in Seattle and didn't have much time for my family. My upbringing has been displayed, i think on this forum.

I've nearly finished his autobiography. Don't know that I'd recommend it - it's kind of interesting at times, but written in a rather boring style. There's a lot of lists that just make you think 'shut up - you're boring me, not impressing me' in a kind of that month we played Cleveland twice, then Chicago, then Detroit, then blah, blah, blah... before attending a wonderful party where I was lucky enough to meet Elton John, Marvin Gaye, John Innman and Her Royal Majesty The Queen! way. The narrative's a bit humourless and repetitive as well - I shagged her, but I couldn't be faithful, so I shagged her as well, but that wasn't enough, so.... and his repeated claims of "it just made me more determined to prove them wrong" keep reminding me of Alan Partridge's "needless to say I had the last laugh".

The marketing, in Britain, around the time of Adam (and the ants) - was stunning. When I was visiting my dad in Scotland I could buy so many cheap trinkets that were "AdaM' emblazoned. My Aunties, and my father, were horrified, since i was supposed to be writing a 20 page paper on Robert Burns, the Lake Poets, and landscape as muse.Granted, I was a teenager and wanted to escape the confines and party with the British rock stars. I thought if I could only get to London I would be able to infiltrate their rock star lairs.Kind of like clueless teens coming to NYC! It didn't work.I wrote the paper. Thanks for the auto biography update!
