Had I flipped to it on cable and caught a scene out of context, I probably would have assumed that the movie as a whole was pretty decent -- the dots are all right, the painting just doesn't come together -- but I don't know why Annette Bening was praised so much.

When I remembered it was by the Nip/Tuck guy, it explained a lot.

it's just really kind of... bullshitty!

the movie starts with like 30 minutes of horrible therapy scenes! and horrible wacky character stuff. and i don't believe a word of it is true. and the image on the dvd, and the poster i guess, is a scissor with legs that is running. and that is unforgivable.

Well yeah it's bullshitty, it's memoir about quirky people! I won't even complain about that part. (And I've heard the book is better and I won't hold the movie against it.)

It's movies like this that make me sigh when I hear Gwyneth Paltrow has been cast in a movie I'm Anticipating, because they make it easy to forget that she was in ... that other one she did ... the good one.

I wonder how much of it was culled from an Addams Family Vacation spec script.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

yeah it was sort of wes anderson meets teh addams family. with extremely poor pop music placement.

i don't think i have ever enjoyed annette bening in a movie.

The Grifters?

I liked her as a foil to Spacey in American Beauty, or at least I liked Spacey more because he disliked her.

I didn't mind Evan Rachel Wood. Or Baldwin, for his five minutes.

poor baldwin in this movie!

The book is nutty, and it all takes place HERE. In small town Western Mass.
Thread connections alert!
There's a huge lawsuit against Augusten Burroughs and the movie people for defamation of character.
I don't think they filmed anything here. I mean, I'm not THAT out of the loop - I think i would have known if there was a Baldwin or Paltrow or awfully named baby in town.
Chomping on cider donuts.
Somebody did spray paint something in front of the actual house where the psych guy lived - he's dead now, but was known as a Santa Claus type.
i have only tidbits of useless information.
The mom lives near my friends old restaurant. She leaves poems out to be critiqued, with pencils! And encourages passerby to write their own!
Thus, i look forward to seeing the movie.

Hmm...Valmont? (Which I like better than Dangerous Liaisons, frankly.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 19 January 2007 06:39 (eighteen years ago)

uuugh ned she's so awful in that movie

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 19 January 2007 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

that actually stands out as my least favourite AB performance!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 19 January 2007 06:50 (eighteen years ago)

yeah it was sort of wes anderson meets teh addams family.

That's kind of what the book is like. I didn't like it.
