I watched this for the first time last night. Can anyone explain to me what it's about? (other than Kubrick looking longingly over lots of nekkid girls.)

This is one of those questions that are too important for me to answer.

just as an aside, I was booking into a stakis hotel, and on the PC the receptionist used was the word "FIDELIO" in large type. I asked her what it was and she said "oh, that's just the screensaver"

Then I watched "Eyes Wide Shut" ... Hmmmm.

This will of course, mean nothing if you haven't seen the film.

i think it is about how boring and frightening marraige is , how much desire is ensalved by commitment. and the naked thing .

I think Anthony is wrong here.

I think it's about the aging/dying Kubrick's pacing being too... achingly... slow... for him to make a decent late Hammer flick. And about Nicole Kidman attempting to self-destruct her career with one of the worst performances I have ever seen.

The long conversation in the bedroom is brilliant.

Josh, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Josh is OTM. That's the only part of the movie that's worth anything. I really didn't need to see an hour of Tom Cruise smugging through the streets of Manhattan.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The long conversation with Sidney Pollack is even better.

Here is where I compared EWS to The Wedding Planner, and to expand on that brief note, I'd argue that EWS is about coming to terms with domesticity. He's restless, he's tempted by a fantastic world of eroticism and mystery. In the light of day, he comes to terms with his uneasy dreams and finds them to cloak a harsh, ugly, and mundane world. He returns to his wife, ready to abandon the lure of the exotic for the subtle pleasures of the familiar.

I had to wonder: has Nicole Kidman ever actually been drunk? Has Kubrick ever been high? CRUISE: "Honey, that pot's making you aggressive." wha?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rrrrrrrrraimove your clothes!!! Or shall WE do it FOR you?!?!

The movie has lots of great, darkly funny moments. My favorite scene is the one with Cruise and the woman who confesses she's in live with him. The Long Island mansion scene is good too.

The movie was a waste of good tape... but there are many good ones though thank goodness!
