Locker room double standards

Why is there a double standard in locker room access for reporters in men's and women's locker rooms. In the mens both male and female reporters havee unrestricted access, and are there while the men shower and change. For the women's teams reporters are only allowed in for 20 minutes, and then must leave so the women can change. Are women more deserving of privacy then men?

You mean tipping in restaraunts? As long as the service was good, fine, but if the service was poor, i see nothing wrong with passing on the tip. Now what about my question?

just in case anyone was wondering this is a pretty great thread

webber (webber), Monday, 22 January 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

You know, one wild equitable solution in both directions would be that locker rooms are for, like, showing and changing and shit, and so nobody else goes into them at all. But I guess the coolness of the off-guard locker-room interview is too tempting for anyone to give that up. Maybe we should extend that everywhere else, too, so the White House press corp could follow Bush into the bathroom and ask him about stuff while he zips up.

It is pretty funny, though, how we can't quite break through our issues about people of the opposite sex seeing one another in these kinds of situations -- despite our all knowing really well that there are all sorts of things that seriously undermine the logic of it.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 22 January 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

I'll admit this would make the sports-reportin' career a little more appealing.

hearditonthexico (rogermexico), Monday, 22 January 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

In case you haven't noticed, with the exception of tennis players, female athletes are not the most attractive women in the world! The WNBA players look like truck drivers! So the job would not be as appealing as you think!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 22 January 2007 03:28 (eighteen years ago)

The reason for the double standard is that women are more trustworthy than men. Just take a look at the internet, anywhere this issue has been debated women give serious opinions, while men make juvenile jokes. Take a look at this place, only one or 2 people gave a serious opinion, the rest is your typical juvenile crap! If men had unrestricted access to women's locker rooms, it wouldn't be long before articles describing the women's anatomies, and nude cell phone pics found their way to the internet!

@Sports chick. Men say what is on their minds and exaggerate, they want to look macho, but then in reality they behave; women hide and lie about what is on their minds, they don’t want to look sluts, but then in reality the misbehave. That is just your opinion of what would happen if men had unrestricted access to women’s locker rooms. Big surprise for you, the things you describe that would happen ALREADY happened with female reporters, and worse, in the case of “describing anatomies and saying how much she like it”, she was forced to say “sorry” to the team. So, you claim you want equality and then support a double standard, which is typically female! In fact men have much more respect for women than women have for men. Male reporters have the same rights that female reporters have by LAW, but male reporters do not force the situation, while female reporters forced the situation on male athletes and in the 70s!! That alone proves men respect women much more than women respect men. Many more double standards against men exist, some even by LAW, females have many more rights, and the blame is not of feminists, ironically the blame is of men, men gave women those unequal rights, yes men are still in power, men protect women instinctively by nature, while women attack men by nature. Your insensible attack in the forum is proving of that. If women attack men in their most fundamental rights then no problem, but if men defend themselves against those attacks then they are accused by females of being chauvinists.
If you want to see some more situations of women disrespecting men, go here:

That is true, there have been instances where female reporters described the nude players they saw in the locker rooms, and were later forced to apologize, But in all fairness, the biggest critics of this are other female reporters, whenever this happens they are outraged because it makes them all look bad!

Marmot (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)

No they are not outraged, they are embarrassed, because they always lied about how they don’t look and don’t like what they see, which was obviously lies because people can not turn off their natural feelings.

Hey, can someone tell me where to sign up to be one of these hundreds upon hundreds of female sports reporters that the papers or television stations have decided to trust enough to go into the locker rooms instead of allowing that to be a "man's job"? Because, like, as far as I knew there really aren't that many of them. Unless we're talking women's sports which is like only for lesbians anyway LOL amirite man reporters have better shit to be covering, like Belichick's sweatshirt status in mid-July.

I guess what I'm asking is wtf is this thread even based on? It's kind of mesmerizing.

During a recent loss a camera in the Dallas cowboys locker room was pointed at an upset player with his head down. In the backround a nude player walked by, this was actually aired in Dallas on local TV! This is wexactly why the media should be banned from locker rooms, here is the address to the video.

http://my.break.com/media/view.aspx?ContentID=214409

Taggart (Ancroid), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

This is exactly why the media should have unrestricted access to locker rooms.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 26 January 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

The players are well aware that there will be camera's and women in the locker room after the game, yet many still insist on walking around naked. No one is stopping them from wearing a towel or robe.
You cannot blame this on the media. Most members of the media would prefer if the players covered up. In fact I bet many of their fellow players would prefer it as well. Most men do not like to look at naked men!

Marmot (marmotwolof), Friday, 26 January 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

I think having restricted locker room access actually hurts the women?s teams. Women?s team sports are no where near as popular as their male counterparts. If the media where allowed full access to the players, the publicity could only help. And I am sure most of the players wouldn?t mind since they could use all the publicity they can get!

Chrohn (Chrohn), Friday, 26 January 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

The players are well aware that there will be camera's and women in the locker room after the game, yet many still insist on walking around naked.

^^^^^ Haha any guy who takes off his clothes to shower is totally asking for it!

Clearly the answer is that we should have two locker rooms -- one to actually use as a locker room, and the other for a kind of quaint, immersive interview backdrop.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 26 January 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

And like people could shower and dress in the real locker room, but then do stuff like put on their watches and fix their hair in the fake one, so it still seems suitably casual!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 26 January 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

Nabisco, yes i realize they have to get undressed to shower, the point I was tryin to make is they don't have to walk around stark naked! They can wear a towel or robe to and from the shower. You can even get dressed while wearing a towel without giving everyoe a peep show, many people do it!

Sports chick (forreq2), Saturday, 27 January 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

@Sports chick. Players don't have to adpt because of reporters, they are in the right place doing the right thing; reporters are the ones tha have to "adpt" by waiting outside the locker room or in a private room. Its harrassement, and in the case of the opposite sex in the locker room it's sexual harrasement. Reporters might get a picture or a video of a player naked, BUT THAT GIVES THEM NO RIGHT TO SHOW THAT VIDEO OR PICTURE TO THE PUBLIC! If it's not a big deal because they have a towel, I would like to see female reporters change there, shower, interview the players with just o towel, in front of fully dressed male reporters, and on live TV, then get dressed again.
Even with the towel, it's not full nudity but it's still nudity.

fmdsv (fmdsv), Saturday, 27 January 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

You can even get dressed while wearing a towel without giving everyoe a peep show, many people do it!

my experience of male locker rooms is nonexistent but surely other guys would take the piss if anyone did this? it looks prudish and cumbersome enough in ladies' changing rooms.

ampersand, spades, semicolon (cis), Saturday, 27 January 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)

After that video of the Dallas cowboys, the league or the team officials should ban all reporters from their locker room as punishement for unprofessional behaviour. That would teach reporters some manners!

fmdsv (fmdsv), Saturday, 27 January 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

Or... what's to stop the athletes from doing the locker room interviews butt naked whilst thrusting their pelvises left and right so that any interviewer can't get a sound-bite without the audible sound of dick slapping against flesh over and over again.
