keyboard trays and mousepads - Tell me about your desk setup

So our office was recently redone and we havesleek counter-desk things. It's a bit high for my shorty self and I was experiencing shoulder/back pain. So I asked for a hundred-dollar keyboard/mouse tray to mount beneath my desk.

I just finished installing it and piece of shit instructions aside, I'm really not feeling it. Although my shoulders are now at a normal, relaxed height while typing I feel a million miles away from my desk and the mouse bit is just awkward. Going to give it until the end of the day.

In addition to my fancy rotating keyboard I have two flat panel screens , my phone and lamp on the desk in front of me. On the table to the right I have my mac and guest chair. The left has a rolling filing cabinet and low, long filing thing. Each side of my space has whiteboard dividers. Everything is in easy reach and comfortable. . .if only I could get the damn keyboard situ worked out.

Tell me about the physical setup of your workspace.

I've got an L-shaped desk with a keyboard tray. The L part extends to my left. I've got an ergo keyboard on the tray and a trackball. I could never get a mouse to work well on a tray, too little space to move around. Other work stuff is to my left.

I set my work documents in from of me, so there's about a 18" space between the edge of the desk and my LCD. It seemed a bit far at first, but I've adjusted.

I'm hoping to adjust to the new gulf on my desk.

This mouse tray thing is crap because my mouse slides off. It has a little place for the wire which I guess they think will hold it on. But mine is wireless! I had to tape some cardboard to the edge to hold it. ghetto.

Keyboard height 24.5", mouse height 28". Being able to rest my right arm on the desk is the key to successful internets addiction.

U-shaped desk. Two displays on each "L" of the desk; two each for Windows and Mac. Keyboard trays for each, which also host trackballs. The keyboard trays are absolutely essential for me, as well as the trackballs, which cut down enormously on arm pain. The displays have stands, which keep them at good ergo height for me. The phone and cabinets are in the corner under the tiny bookshelf. Every square inch of available cube wallspace is covered in posters (Wacky Packages sheet, street map of NYC, maps of China, YYYs poster, and a cigarette ad I found in Guangzhou) and a whiteboard.

Maybe I'll maneuver a webcam to get a pic, if it'll reach.

hmm, I like your keyboard tray much more since it seems the mouse is above the keyboard. Mine can only be even or lower. :(

I had that mouse below the keyboard at first, but it hurt my arm a lot. Moving it up helped a lot.

one year passes...

I don't get keyboard shelves.

First of all, they bump my knees.

Secondly, they force me to sit about further away from my desk.

Finally, it feels weird to have my hands so low.

What am I missing here?

twelve years pass...

I want a Windows keyboard that is fairly good for day-to-day writing on but allows me to plug my ergonomic mouse into so that I don't need to use two USBs. Any tips? I'm searching on Google but Google doesn't seem to understand what I mean.

keyboard with USB passthrough might be the way you need to phrase it in Google. Also you could use any USB dongle since power use is very low, so you only take up one PC slot. Like cheap, non (extra) powered ones.

Try searching for 'keyboard with USB hub'.
