Rollering

Anybody skate as a way of keeping fit or getting from A to B?

Nobody really seems to do this in the UK, apart from uneven road surfaces and narrow pavements there's something goofy about careering along on skates, which is a great pity.

Myself and a couple of friends bought into the rollerblade thing when we were in our teens, vowing to keep it up while looking sexy and toned but it didn't work. After being laughed off the street we gave it up.

I rediscovered my rollerblades when I moved house, and after a heavy all night session I decided to put them on again and give it another try.

At four in the morning, I left my then boyfriend snoring in bed, strapped on the boots, hooked my dog Sam up to his harness and barrelled up and down the empty street for an hour.

Exhilarating doesn't describe it! I've never felt a rush in my life. The dog delighted in being able to pull me along at full strength, and when we finally came back indoors, aching and buzzing we slept the sleep of the well exercised for the rest of the day.

And now there are sexy retro-roller-boots back in the shops! Who is buying them? If more people did it I would seriously consider skating to work in the summer!

i see people rollerblading to work (i'm guessing they're going to work bc it's that time of the morning, plus they're on pavements and not just wooshing around the park so it looks like they're trying to get somewhere) in london a couple of times a week, if i'm out at that time too. they look cool.

There's this big group of roller-bladers that always seem to be congregating at our local pub whenever we go. I'm assuming that they're some sort of regular roller-group, skating through Hyde Park once a week or something. There's always like 10-15 of them.

That'd be hilarious if the cast from Starlight Express rollerbladed to the pub after every show.

yeah, there's like a friday night skate thing through Hyde Park every Friday. My old work colleague used to do this all the time.

I'd love to be able to skate to and from work but a) it's too far b) I can't skate c) the pavements are WAY too crazy bumpy!

My work is about a 45 minute walk from my home, it's a pretty straight road but the pavement is a bit wrecked.

Not a lot of pedestrians use it and on the days when I walk instead of taking the bus a lot of motorists toot their horns for no reason other than to make me jump into the hedge.

I think it would be a million times worse if I was on skates :~(
