Hi Ronin, Please, before you leave that city, pray tell, tell us about Leason Street! I have heard the name before!

Gale, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I live in Dublin too, Gale. Can I tell you about Leeson Street or will only Ronan do?

DV, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure you can :) I have heard of it is all.

Gale, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is known for prostitutes.

Ronan, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Leeson Street - by day an attractive Dublin Georgian street, stretching from St. Stephen's Green across the canal to the leafy suburban area around Morehampton Road.

But by night Leeson st. is transformed into one long den of SIN and DEPRAVITY. The basements of most of the buildings houses seedy (and totally illegal) nightclubs serving overpriced nasty wine to people who like listening to bad music while they try and cop off with people. The traditional quip is that Leeson Street is where girls go looking for husbands, and husbands go looking for girls.

Leeson St. has taken a further nosedive in recent years with the addition of Strings, a lapdancing club.

If you want a vision of hell, walk down Leeson St. at chucking out time.

So Gale, your kind of place? :-)

DV, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not Me! Wouldn't see me 'round them thar parts !!:( I was watching CdeB's Live in Dublin video and he mentioned Leason street. It 's a nice name. Too bad.

Gale, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i live pickles

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't we all?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What, live pickles? I am not yet pickle in my mind.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was in niteklub in Leeson St. once called 'The Vatican'. It was hellish.

Michael Bourke, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Vatican is on Harcourt Street but oh yes so hellish. Shithole.

Ronan, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Harcourt street is where the nightclubs are for people who think Leeson street is too upmarket and classy. there are a succession of awful clubs there - from the Vatican, to Barney Googles (popular with cops) and Copper Face Jack's. There is a certain honesty to the Harcourt Street clubs - they are where awful people go to cop off with other awful people while very, very drunk, and they don't have the air of degenerate sleaze that Leeson street revels in. But they are still awful. allegedly "where are ye from" is a typical chat up line.

I think Gale is more of a Harcourt Street gal! ;-)

DV, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't get my hopes up DV. That isn't my lifestyle sorry chummy!

Gale, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shall I go through every type of nightclub in Dublin till we find one that suits?

DV, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the way Gale has turned Ronan into a masterless samurai warrior.

Andrew L, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi DV. I don't go night clubbing I'm a stay at home old girl

Gale, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Crikey does that mean Chris de Burgh hangs around a lapdancing club while trying to pick up girls while out of his box on cheap wine?

Billy Dods, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not him, the rest of his band.

Gale, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris had other plans!

Gale, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's no need for CdeB to go to lapdancing clubs. He can fuck the babysitter! Way-hay!

Michael B, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I doubt that very much.

Gale, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Haven't u heard "Blonde hair, blue jeans"? Tis' all about his babysitter!

Michael B, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes I have heard the song and I like it. I don't believe he'd do that being as happily married as he is.

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello Gale. no, Mr DeB did have an affair with his babysitter. I think his marriage survived it, however. It was in all the papers in Ireland a few years ago. He did say at the time that he was fed up with people being shocked by his fall from grace, given that he never set himself up as some kind of saint.

because sub-editors are slaves to obvious puns, the incident spawned numerous "Lady In Bed" headlines.

DV, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaha that is funny! ARF!

Sarah, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"The baby's in b-eeeeddd / try 'dancing' with me (cheek to cheek)"

N., Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi DV, What do you mean by youe last statement? Something about the Lady in Red? please explain because I never heard anything about it here.

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gale - I can't remember the exact details, but a few years ago cheeky Chris De Burgh was revealed by a tabloid to be having an affair with some 19 year old who minded his and his wife's children. the tabloid papers ran with headlines along the lines of "Shame of DeBurgh's Lady In Bed". I think Chris De Burgh's wife was a bit grumpy about the whole business but as far as I know their marriage survived.

DV, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes it did and they are happily married. :)

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I still don't believe it for a second. I think the papers aren't all that great. I never read them, but I know many do and I think that these papers sometimes write a bunch of bunk, just to make problems for people. Many of these papers have been sued haven't they?

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi Michael B. What you said wasn't very nice at all :(

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi DV(I) Thanks for the e-mail. :) I appreciate it.

Gale, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh how the mighty have fallen

Michael Bourke, he speaks the truth I'm afraid.

Ronan, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi Ronan , The last post you have with the download, is a bunch of gibberish that I can't read. Please tell me what does it say?

Gale, Saturday, 16 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Here Gale.

Graham, Sunday, 17 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
Will be arriving in Dublin on wednesday at eight of the clock.

Are the bars as expensive as I'm led to believe? We're staying on Aston Quay and the two things we'll be looking for are a nice pub, not too pricey and preferably with live music, and a good Irish breakfast.

Nor where should I be going for these requirements?

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 24 February 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, and how are the cocktails in Captain Americas?

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 24 February 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

If you want cocktails, go to the Clarence. They will be EXPENSIVE, but you get what you pay for.

Does the place you are staying in not to do Irish breakfasts? It's surprisingly hard to find fry-ups in the city centre these days. Maybe in that Sherri's place on Abbey Street.

When you say live music, do you mean Irish traditional music? Where to find good Irish traditional music in Dublin is a long unsolved conundrum. you will get bad Irish music in the pub attached to the hotel on Aston Quay that you may be staying in, or in Fitzsimons in Temple Bar (otherwise known as the first circle of hell).

I will have to think more about this.

However, I do recomment The Brazen Head pub. Not merely is it Dublin's oldest pub, it's actually nice and does good Guinness and stuff. Possibly has music too.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 24 February 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Many of the Irish breakfasts that you get in hotels are inedibly poor, and anyway you're nowhere these days without a breakfast baguette. As Dara O'Briain says, the French may have had many things in mind when they created the baguette, but they probably never imagined that it would be used to hold a complete Irish breakfast.

The Munchies near Christchurch does a really nice breakfast bap - ideal if you're in work early on a Saturday morning. It is known as Mexican Munchies because it's run by a Mexican man called Hugo, who is very nice. They do huevos rancheros there too.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, our hotel does offer a full Irish but we were planning on using the place only to sleep.

As far as the traditional music goes, as long as I'm drunk enough Scottish or Irish music will have me misting at the eyes and clapping along no matter how badly it's played.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 25 February 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Fitzsimons it is! Don't ask us to join you for a FAP, though.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 25 February 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Fitzsimons, eh. Hope it's not dangerous!

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Friday, 25 February 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

It's dangerous to good sense.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 25 February 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

oh er, you are arriving today, Ms/Mr Pumpsy? er, perhaps some kind of fappage should be considered.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

DV, wasn't logged on at all last week or we could have met up for a pint. Never mind, Kev and I had a great time, done all touristy stuff, had breakfast in sherry's (no soda bread or potato cakes tho), done the crypts at St Michaels, got hassled by a cross eyed drunk who kissed me and danced with me in the street, fantastic!

Kev was over the moon that I'd arranged that for his birthday - me! A heathen! Happy to trail along as he took photos of the Sinn Fein shop and talked Celtic with barmen. I'm a martyr.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, and you have the maddest barman in the world, officially. He works afternoons in O'Briens (I think it's called), when we went in for a quick drink he was bored stiff, had elastic bands wrapped round his head and was stabbing the wall with a knife. He spent the next half hour winking, grimacing and talking to himself before punching the wall with frightning force.

"Don't look at him, just drink quickly, get up slowly and run for the door" Kev advised through a frozen smile. We did. Pass on my regards to this young man if you encounter him.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

where is this wonderful pub?

was Sherry's any cop? I have often wondered about that place.

I realise now that you should have gone to the restaurant in the The Liberties (wheh wheh wheh) that promises food straight from the heart of the rowl.

Did you see Bang Bang while you were over? Or Billy In The Bowl?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

The pub was on the same street and just up a bit from Abrakebabra - sorry I can't be more geographically correct!

I seen neither of these things (at least I don't think so) but a middle aged american got us to take his photo with his head between Oscar Wildes legs - and I LOVE all the sculptures.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

Martyr me arse, Pumpkin. You've always had leanings, it's only a matter of time before you come over from the dark side...

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Butt out you!

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Or?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

CATFIGHT!

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)
