happy valentines day, you fucked, fucked culture.

jess, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is it just me or do they all look like colt models ?

anthony, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why didn't Ralph Macchio patent the name "Crossroads"?

Kris, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the logo for Broken Lizard (I'm assuming that's the production company) a monkey? That's pretty broken...

Sean, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was so hoping it had something to do with Abba. But then only the Australians do decent Abba movies anyway.

Nicole, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously you haven't seen Slackers. Lucky you.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 13 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...
wtf??

there guys are not funny.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

To you they're not, to some they are. The opening 20 minutes or so of Super Troopers is very funny. Yes, it's pretty stupid, but then so is almost everything else.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

I wish the original link still worked! I loooooooooooove Broken Lizard, totally my favorite comedy movie making motherfuckers ALIVE.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

the snozberries taste like snozberry

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

For a real mind-bending experience, rent "Puddle Cruiser," which might honestly be the least funny movie ever marketed as a comedy. This is not a "to me it is, to some it's not" scenario. I challenge anyone to point out one vaguely amusing joke in that movie.

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

The thing where the two dudes keep lying about each other to girls, for starters.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

Also the thing about "it's not just a firsty-firsty, it's a girly-girly".

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

And the slingshot!

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, it is easily not nearly as funny as anything else they've done, but "least funny movie ever marketed as a comedy" is a bit much, when such things as Little Man exist.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

BUT THIS IS THE THREAD TO TALK ABOUT BEERFEST

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

I can't wait! I'm going TONIGHT...there is a theater that lets us bring our own food etc (but not beer) so we are going to try to sneak in beers in a big McDonalds bag or something. Also, trenchoats with deep pockets.

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could remember who told me this was good because I need to kick them in the shins. Just not funny at all. Not actually agressively bad, but that's even worse for a comedy. They didn't even seem to be trying.

The part at the end where they made the stoners run around was kind of funny though.

Eppy (Eppy), Monday, 28 August 2006 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

Beerfest is pretty good. Puddle Cruiser is horrible, but it's their first movie, so do try and keep up.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 28 August 2006 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

from broken lizard's bio:

The five met at Colgate University and were members of Beta Theta Pi. They formed a sketch group called Charred Goosebeak. They began playing shows in New York City in 1991, and were eventually asked to write and perform in a short film, The Tinfoil Monkey Agenda. The group's first feature, Puddle Cruiser, was screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

yup now i get them.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Charred Goosebeak"

*shudder*

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

So the secret to becoming a sketch comedy success is being rich frat boys?

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 28 August 2006 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

i wouldnt really call them a success.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

are they funnier than dane cook?

timmy tannin (pompous), Monday, 28 August 2006 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

I hate when me and chaki disagree on things so much! It's tearing me apart inside!

captain reverend gandalf jesus (nickalicious), Monday, 28 August 2006 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

i wouldnt really call them a success.

-- chaki (chaki.tim...), Today 5:11 PM. (chaki) (later)

they get multi-million $$ budgets and national distribution and marketing = i wouldn't kick that successs outta bed

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

anyway... i only saw super troopers, it had 1 or 2 funny scenes i thought.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

you tart!

xpost

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

financial success? yes. maybe. dukes of hazard made its money back and super troopers made tons on dvd. success at bringing teh funneys? thats up for debate.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

agree with you there.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that's always up for debate.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

WORKER BROS WERE WATCHING 'PUDDLE CRUISER' DURING lunch today and it was really painful to sit through.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

The phrase "Puddle Cruiser" really makes me think of pedophilia.

(Oh yeah and I meant financial success not funneh success)

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 28 August 2006 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

Super Troopers is mad funny, Club Dread and Beerfest were miserable horrible comedy black holes

parm goin' ham (sic), Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:12 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i 'missed' club dread, beerfest had a few snickers but tbh if you've not seen it then just watch super troopers again instead.

DarraghmacKwacz (darraghmac), Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:22 (fifteen years ago)

smh at people who rated all those other comedies above super troopers in the poll

I request "Fireflies" (dyao), Thursday, 18 March 2010 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

i'm surprised most of you didn't like Super Troopers; dunno if I'm proud to say this, but it is more or less the comedy of my generation (mid-20's); pretty much everyone I went to high school or college with can recite nearly every line, I mean there are a lot of ridiculously funny scenes in that movie.

I wonder whatever became of those guys; Club Dread was a neat idea but sucked as a movie, Beerfest was pretty good but really half-baked, never saw anything else

frogbs, Thursday, 21 April 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

i love super troopers

club dread was such a missed opportunity, all the jimmy buffet stuff was so funny then they felt like they had to go thru the motions of all the horror movie shit :(

O da Huge Manatee (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 21 April 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

littering AND...littering ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND

Neanderthal, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:18 (fourteen years ago)

I never saw Club Dread, but I keep tabs on the Broken Lizard guys hoping that some day they'll reach the level they hit with Super Troopers.

I even watched Slammin' Salmon on tv, sigh.

mh, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:20 (fourteen years ago)

Jay Chandrasekhar has directed a bunch of stuff, mainly tv and the dukes of hazard movie, was that not successful?
super troopers 2 coming out this year

mizzell, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

littering and smoking the reefer!

i think i'm freaking out man!

you are freaking out. man.

Mordy, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:31 (fourteen years ago)

that opening sequence is my favorite part of the movie. there's not enough comedies like Super Troopers at the moment, which are over the top enough to satisfy those of us who want to see screwball shit, but grounded enough, not overtly bordering-on-Apatow levels (not that I dislike Apatow, but it'd be nice to have an alternative choice to that school of comedy these days).

Neanderthal, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:38 (fourteen years ago)

meow.

Mordy, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:41 (fourteen years ago)

xp that's my thoughts exactly; that's why I like it so much better than movies like 40 YO Virgin, Knocked Up, etc...there's really no heart, not really too much plot, just a bunch of jokes, most of which land. I like the opening scene plenty but everything with the German couple was awesome, plus I always thought every scene with Farva was great. Also, every character says "fuck it" at least once. I don't know if anyone else noticed.

frogbs, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

super troopers is great, I believe I have expressed my love for it on ilx before

dayo, Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

xpost don't get me wrong, I love a lot Apatow movies, but I don't like it when every screwball comedy thinks it has to be that raunchy these days, I like stuff like Super Troopers that toes the middle a bit.

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 April 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

he has a pretty impressive TV resume...Community, Undeclared, Arrested Development, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, etc.

Slammin' Salmon is their 2nd best movie imo, but it's obv a distant 2nd

apparently they're actually doing a Super Troopers sequel now? i kinda applaud them for trying to do other movies and often playing completely different kinds of characters from one movie to the next, but it really does feel like they hit on their one really solid formula with that movie and there's no shame in returning to it.

some dude, Friday, 22 April 2011 01:45 (fourteen years ago)

oh right someone mentions ST 2 upthread

some dude, Friday, 22 April 2011 01:46 (fourteen years ago)

I WANT A LITRE OF COLA

Neanderthal, Friday, 22 April 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)

Beerfest disappointed me because it seems like they had trouble pacing it. All the skits in ST really worked because they had the time to.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Friday, 22 April 2011 05:17 (fourteen years ago)

Super Trooper is great, love it. Haven't watched Slammin Salmon yet, kind of used to being underwhelmed by them these days. But damn, yeah Super Troopers is all kinds of goodness..(Also Jay Chanrasekar in Jackass 2 in the Terrorist Taxi was awesome).

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 22 April 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

xp Yeah I felt like they never really knew where they were going, but for all that it was still good...I could never tell if it was a parody of all the other dumb comedies where groups of friends team up to win some competition, or if it just was one of them

the Terrorist Taxi thing was so classic, I mean not to really praise that movie too much but the idea was so brilliant, especially because you think the guy in the trunk literally has to be fearing for his life

frogbs, Friday, 22 April 2011 06:35 (fourteen years ago)

otm about Beerfest. It had some definite great scenes, but as a whole it just doesn't tie together.

License and registration, chickenfucker!

post you had fecund thoughts about (darraghmac), Thursday, 5 March 2015 00:33 (ten years ago)

I recently saw this comedy and only one scene made me pc police actively angry but not so egregiously so that I remember it (eg compare just the TRAILER of Ted 2 which has made me seethe the 3x I have seen it)
also I remember laughing at some scenes but not what those scenes were
so I'm not sure if this is praise or not

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Thursday, 5 March 2015 00:46 (ten years ago)

I liked some of the characters but I don't remember them
I hated none of the characters
At the end there was a scene with darkness but then some bright lights flashed

FUNNY????

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Thursday, 5 March 2015 00:47 (ten years ago)

oh yeah now I remember
it was about drug smuggling but it was improbably unlike real life
that was a plot point

ya funny but not really explicable imo just gut funny quick funny

yeah I laughed a lot
that's all that matters
is it important to be able to quote everything and therefore socially isolate most people EVEN FURTHER? maybe not?

no I dont think so but I'm not against it or anything I'm kinda easygoing rly

2 of the 5 guys are now doing a show called Tacoma FD, it is EXACTLY Super Troopers: the TV show except they now work for the fire department and the other dudes are replaced with more muscular dudes

indeed it is quite dumb but it at least knows its dumb which is why it makes me laugh more than Brooklyn Nine Nine

frogbs, Thursday, 3 September 2020 21:34 (four years ago)

lol did nobody else see the sequel? I mean it was bad enough that I left 40% of the way through, but....wondered if anybody else got through it.

recycling jokes from the first one was the worst ("glittering ANNNND")

fentanyl young (Neanderthal), Thursday, 19 January 2023 02:59 (two years ago)

no but I saw the show they did for TruTV and its okay. its kind of Super Troopers: the series but they're firemen instead. the first episode has them pissing into jugs and honestly it's a bit surreal to see a newer show use that kind of humor. anyway I've only seen a handful but half of them were surprisingly decent and the other half utterly terrible. kinda like modern Simpsons actually
