There will be no more DEER or BIRDS in art/design/graphics/fashion/whatever. These animals are now officially off-limits. You can have rabbits, you can have squirrels, hell you can even have wolves. But you cannot have deer or birds. You have used them up. There are none left.

the new sincerity (Pye Poudre), Monday, 29 January 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

fair enough. more sea creatures perhaps.

vita susicivus (blueski), Monday, 29 January 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

No more depictions of HUMANS.

THE POLITICO (Brian Miller), Monday, 29 January 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

does that smaller bunny have national geographic titties?

latebloomer: crapness 2 the Nth degree (latebloomer), Monday, 29 January 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

my concern is with the dispassionate, drained eyes; perhaps spending its time with that dazed and addled bigger bunny has really taken it out of the poor thing.

Peter Densmore (pbnmyj), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

i mean, when a 1st place ribbon fails to arouse some gusto, beside a massive piece of your favorite food with sanguine skin and beautiful japanese wood-carving leaves... sickening malaise in that thing's head for sure.

Peter Densmore (pbnmyj), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

banned:

wallpaper patterns (e.g. acanthus leaves, scrolled embellishments)
heraldic motifs
sailor jerry tattoo americana bullshit
dripping paint

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

all graphics must be 4D from hereon.

vita susicivus (blueski), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

new hotness:

southwest US themes
(e.g. turquiose/sunset color schemes, navajo blanket patterns, dreamcatchers, kokopelli)

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm having trouble deciding what I wouldn't ban.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

holding steady:
basic marker-pen style illustration

vita susicivus (blueski), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

banned:

twee goth tim burton-esque characters
skull and crossbones

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

elmo srsly otm

and what (ooo), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

totally

latebloomer: crapness 2 the Nth degree (latebloomer), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

still hott 4 me:
text that is skewed right at 15 degrees and then rotated anti-clockwise at 30 degrees.

(as opposed to rotating the text at 30 or 45 without skewing - fuck that)

vita susicivus (blueski), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

wolf shirts are perennial, though. believe it.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Monday, 29 January 2007 19:00 (eighteen years ago)

Elmo gots it. So totally OTM, esp as regards kitsch tattoo, skull & x-bones, drippy paint.

Add to banned list:

Big-eyed waif girls ripped from somebody ripping Ryden a/o Keane (dead anyway, but kick the corpse a few times just to make sure).

Small, smudgy pastel illustrations of people/animals looking cartoon-sad. In fact, fuck cartoon-sad 100%.

Collages of silhouetted heraldic/wallpaper crap and noble animal crap, usu involving the drippy spray-paint effect.

the new sincerity (Pye Poudre), Monday, 29 January 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

the 'top half light/bottom half dark' contrast of strips and tabs in online graphic design is everywhere.

vita susicivus (blueski), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

Gah! That Islamic hash-pattern shit is killing me. So fucking gorgeous. Less bullshit nostalgia for anything. More staring into the eyes of god and freaking out about it.

Still down with super-shitty Paper Rad Garfields tho'.

the new sincerity (Pye Poudre), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

What is that glass apple cube thingy?

Edward Trifle (Ned Trifle IV), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

There is a gas station here that has wallpaper of kokpellis holding hamburgers and sodas instead of trumpets. It's GREAT.

Abbott (Abbott), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 23:42 (eighteen years ago)

it's not about staring into the eyes of god, really. the ceilings are thought to be intended represent infinity to the viewer, both visually and conceptually. the tile/brick/textile work is the two dimensional analogue. the architectural patterning/fragmentation is meant to obscure the structure. none of it aspires to be the eyes of god.

it is beautiful, though.

friday on the porch (lfam), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

friday on the porch (lfam), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

I was using the phrase "the eyes of god" in a more retardo sense, to mean "hwatever whoatrippy spiritual shit". But the info is much appreciated.

the late 70s painting and decoration school, is an american abstractionist attempt to recreate or syntheise this instinct, i keep thinking they need to make a come back
