Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I have been convinced for a long time now that airborne required HOT water but reading the directions it plainly says COLD water--wtf was I thinking?

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

KLG sez airborne is BS, with no active ingredients and basically does nothing but you know how she is! love that girl!

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:11 (seventeen years ago) link

It has the same "active ingredients" as orange juice, it's just an antioxidant/super dose of Vitamin C. So maybe you should ask her about the OJ too!

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:12 (seventeen years ago) link

isn't it like.. your body can only use so much vitamin c per day anyhow, so beyond that is no good

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

oh ho ho ho! and she agrees with me that OJ works. (at least for me it does.) KLG=busted.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:15 (seventeen years ago) link

That is true of most vitamins etc (besides the ones that you can get poisoned by?!) and it will flush out the excess. People who smoke require a higher dose of vitamin C per day however because something in nicotene prevents proper absorption of vitamin C.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link

i think it's generally true of all water-soluble vitamins. it's the fat-soluble ones that are usually overdose trouble.

KLG is probably just reacting to the way certain people regard things like airborne or echinachea pills and that kind of thing, like they are supposed to cure your illnesses, when in fact like any kind of nutritional supplement they are just meant to boost your immune system by replenishing vitamins and minerals that best maintain your body's ability to fight off colds.

xpost and most minerals too, right? Maybe minerals = fat-soluble and I am looking douchey right now.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

alex is that was true you would have scurvy.

Allyzay doesnt get into the monkeys or vindications (allyzay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah the Airborne Vitamin C thing basically just means you have more expensive urine. But some angry science guy says that if taken as directed, it'll lead to a Vitamin A overdose, whatever that would look like.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

The Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for vitamin A, for a 25-year old male, is 3,000 micrograms/day, or about 10,000 IU.

Too much vitamin A can be harmful or fatal, resulting in what is known as hypervitaminosis A. The body converts the dimerized form, carotene, into vitamin A as it is needed, therefore high levels of carotene are not toxic compared to the ester (animal) forms. The livers of certain animals, especially those adapted to polar environments, often contain amounts of vitamin A that would be toxic to humans. Thus, vitamin A toxicity is typically reported in arctic explorers and people taking large doses of synthetic vitamin A. The first documented (citation?) death due to vitamin A poisoning was Xavier Mertz, a Swiss scientist who died in January 1913 on an Antarctic expedition that had lost its food supplies and fell to eating its sled dogs. Mertz consumed lethal amounts of vitamin A by eating the dogs' livers. Just 0.3 grams of the liver of the polar bear contains the upper intake level.[2]. If eaten in one meal, 30 to 90 grams is enough to kill a human being, or to make even sled dogs very ill.

LO-NRG (teenagequiet), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:25 (seventeen years ago) link

"Expensive urine" is also the argument used against vitamin supplements but it's very difficult, especially if you have some kind of deficiency or engage in activities like drinking or smoking that can reduce your ability to intake certain vitamins, to get your actual daily values of a lot of things without eating like 700 things per day. That's a false statement; your urine will be expensive with one thing that you did get enough of for the day, but your body will be expensive with the result of things you were low on for the day. I mean, as long as you aren't being completely retarded and getting like 17,000% of your iron for the day or something.

xpost HI THERE ARGUMENT FOR NEVER EATING LIVER

LO-NRG (teenagequiet), Thursday, 1 February 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Your urine will also be expensive urine if you don't drink enough non-alcholic/non-caffeinated beverages per day too, so all of you should start saving your pee and trying to sell it on eBay for PROFIT.

xpost that's an overdose of beta carotene.

MW what the hell.

OK so I just watched a bunch of really old men play some weird touch football hybrid on my television, "Team Boomer Esiason" beat "Team Warren Moon" FWIW but I kept wondering why the hell Marcus Allen and Andre Reed don't have better things to be doing with their lives.

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:10 (seventeen years ago) link

OTM! I could not for the life of me understand the rules of that game! it just seemed like the easiest game ever. throw the ball down the field, someone will catch it + score even though, like three dudes touch them first.

btw Andre Reed u r still very pretty.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I couldn't figure out the rules really at all. Also--why are the team MASCOTS at the Pro Bowl?! This is getting out of hand. Did you see the hit Taylor (? Maybe?) laid on the punter btw!! Holy crap.

Also, GOOD JOB DREW BREES LOL HE DIED.

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:16 (seventeen years ago) link

OMG I KNOW! way to potentially mess up your season in the m'fing Pro Bowl, Drew Brees! :(

I missed the hit on Moorman...I guess everyone missed the memo about the Pro Bowl not meaning anything this year.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't actually see the game, NFLN was showing it over and over again before they switched to Nursing Home Bowl, along with the Peyton Manning tango clip yet again. It was completely insane though! I am surprised Moorman didn't die.

I also had no idea that if your team wins the Pro Bowl you apparently get $40,000??? WTF!

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago) link

you get money if you lose, too, I think?

I adore the Peyton Manning tango clip.

horseshoe (horseshoe), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, you get like $20,000 I think. I want to play in the Pro Bowl, it seems like easy money for not very much work.

What is going on at the end of that clip, when the girl throws him to the floor? Apparently her name is Lola!!

ALSO: MW I just looked at the WDYLL thread and am now even more angry with you over that picture! What the hell!

Allyzay rankin u boobage...!! (allyzay), Sunday, 11 February 2007 04:26 (seventeen years ago) link

the idea of Peyton Manning tangoing with someone named Lola is improbability heaped atop improbability! also, I liked when he told Rich and Marshall that the girl who leaked the tango tape to the media was "like, a gaffer" in the play.
