Is it worth going for a week-end?
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:13 (seventeen years ago)
Well I don't know, I moved here on the Carnaval Monday last year, and it was quite rowdy (broken glass everywhere on the streets, pissed drunk folks in ridiculous costumes)... it was rather festive and very very crowded everywhere, so if you hate being around people...
I heard Cologne do it better, and that's 20 minutes away.

Oh, I meant more in general - is D'orf worth going for a week-end?

I'm curious to know where the record shops in Düsseldorf are too, not because I'm going, but because I went to Duisburg last year and thought that Ddf would have totally awesome record shops for a day trip, except a bit of googling found me like 6 in Duisburg and none in Dusseldorf, which cannot be right. At all.
(You get some weird looks being a tourist in Duisburg! There's nowhere to buy a postcard except the zoo, so everyone got cards with lemurs and red pandas on.)

Hmm, it's OK if you're in the general area and for a weekend, but I wouldn't, say, take a 6-hour train to get here. I mean, there are some nice museums and it can get festive occasionally, but it's not super exciting or anything. Pleasant, is the best way to describe Duesseldorf.
The only record store that I've been to here (and keep in mind I'm mostly into punk rock) is Hitsville on Wallstr. in Altstadt. I think there's 1 or 2 more electronic-based record stores, but it's definitely not Cologne.
However, the saving grace is the once-every-two-months record convention that tours this area of Germany (http://www.cd-boerse.net/).
